  1. From the album: A Newbies Progress

Andies Clone Bags - One twin asked for a pair of clone bags for her and her sister as a birthday surprise. I also incorporated a logo they use into the billet strap to really emphasize that these are unique satchels. Completely handstitched throughout, the brief was that they needed to be able to comfortably hold an A4 writing pad and iPad. As only my second time making bags, i'm really pleased with the finished product....and more to the point, Andie is delighted with them!

With over 50" of strap on each bag, thats a huge amount of stitching...but it will help prevent the strap from stretching, and really adds to the overall look. 7. neat and classy. What size is the text?
  8. Thats correct. But be warned - its not veg-tan! You can ask them to send you some colour samples before you buy, so at least you can be sure the colour is what you want.
  9. if its any help - i recently bought a 22sq ft dyed thru full butt from LePrevo.co.uk This piece was roughly 4'x5' and provided more than enough leather to make two satchels...and i can probably get another smaller bag from the remains of the hide. They are unfinished in this picture - but you get the idea. I was able to cut shoulder straps 40" long, so when using two lengths with buckles for adjusting, i can get some very long straps if i need. The main gusset on these bags is 4" wide, and the bag was sized to be big enough to hold an A4 writing pad. One of the first pieces i ever bought was a veg tan belly - fine for small projects and i managed to cut a few belts from it, but it was no good for bags.

  11. the great thing is its useful for almost any repair you can think of! I added a couple of finger loops to a pair of pliers that i used to find a little small to hold without constantly dropping...i'll add a pic soon. My next sugru project - im going to be adding a couple of led lights to my stitching pony so i can see better when stitching whilst watching tv - this way i wont disturb the family by having all the lights blazing! I wish i had heard of the product 2 months earlier as i threw out a really comfy pair of boots that had previously unrepairable holes!
  12. market it at people suffering from water on the knee...the shoe with a tap on the ankle!
  13. i think what's missing from the sandals, and would certainly add to the unique look would be a pair of industrial plumbing handles on the sides of the soles. Steampunk footwear with a difference!

    Makers Mark

I got a very nice brass stamp from LWLeather.com (they advertise on this site) and the web address will take you to Etsy. mines a 3x3cm square - be warned though, you will need a decent amount of force to ensure a clean impression. I am gonna buy an arbor press to get the stamp consistent. the detail is incredible - you can even see the Roosters eye on the leather and its almost microscopic!
  15. oh! it appears someone has posted a comment on my gallery page and added a link in their post. I would remove the link, but cant see a way to do it.
  16. heres the first impression (literally !) of my new Maker Stamp..... really pleased with the final product - if anyones interested, i got it from LWLeathers.com (via Etsy). Its a solid Brass stamp so will last for years

  19. thanks chaps - now i get it. Think i'd better practice that a bit before using it on a real project...
  20. mind me asking, Ferg...how do you skive with a round knife? I tried with mine but it just seemed clumsy and highly dangerous for skiving! adam

Really!? He told me he would send me a proof in a day. I emailed him 2 days later and he sent me the proof right away. I paid for the extra fast shipping and haven't heard a word from him since.

maybe its because i sent a finished .ai graphic file, making it easier for them to work from without needing to do proofs.

  23. just made a couple of mods to my tools using this amazing material i discovered called "sugru". Its an easily moldable silicon rubber compound that air dries in 24hours. Using this, i was able to add a grip to my pricking iron that means i no longer get hand cramps from tightly gripping the thin handle. It now just balances between my fingers and is a pleasure to use. The scalpel handle was too thin to allow a decent amount of pressure to be applied - now it can be used with more force, and its also easier to control. If you ever wanted a more customised grip (its got so many other uses too ) then you should really try this stuff out! The stuff is also great for strengthening computer cables! I dont have any affiliation with sugru, other than thinking its amazing! adam
