Leather Covered Telecastor Pricing

Thanks!, Ya I have seen his sight many years ago...and as i recall it has not been updated since the last time i was there about 4 years ago.... Ya I know it is all who, what, when, and where...but I think that one thing about leather work is price is whatever you put the value of yourself and your work is. But....that being said, I still don't think that we talk enough about money on this site, and just like anything else...sometimes i feel i have under bid myself and quality of work....I wish there was an industry standard for things like that...but custom work is custom work and this guy made it in 90 hrs and that guy took 150hr...So who is to say how much?? It is between the buyer and the artist....I know...But a good ball park is great... I thank you for your replies and I have given the client a quote I feel comfy with sleeping at night:) I do wish someone would say ya i have been doing guitar covers for 20 yrs and it takes around 200 hours to do them...i work fast and for 7 hrs straight everyday...i am so awesome...hahahaha and the price generally is.....bla bla bla.... There is a big gap between 1400-2500 so I guess I will find out:) It will be done after the door panels are finished...so you got to wait for pics:) -

Not sure what the going rate is for covering and doing artwork on a Tele these days...anyone do one recently? I was thinking about 14-1700????? I think I am in the ballpark.... I don't think we are going to go with Sheridan, I am thinking Train Robbery, or Wild west Wagon Robbery...but it is up to the client....I could use some ideas:) Thanks!

The problem with neoprene is after about 6 months to a year depending on how often the bike is ridden it starts to get flatter and flatter. I personally have done testing with all types and the gym matt works the best. What you want to get your hands on is Polyvinyl Chloride Nitrile Butadiene Rubber also know as gym matt rubber. http://www.closedcel...sticrubber.html sizes up to 2" Don't use those camping matts they are the wrong kind of foam! But here is the Neoprene you can use. http://www.closedcel...m/neoprene.html sizes up to 2" but it is very ,very expensive almost 3 times the price of gym matting foam. We have a store here in Finland called Etola that sells the right stuff. http://www.etola.fi/en/branches/industrial-products/ You can for sure get it in Sweden, any kind of industrial store that sells foams should have it...places you can buy bedding foam or packing/insulating foam. But Etola will ship it to you if you get it online.

1St Seat And Some Finishing Questions

SEAT IS LOOKING WICKED!!!!!!!!! HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR NEW TOOL????????!!!!!!!!!!??????? For the dying if you are going to use black, do not thin it down unless you are attempring to shade some things, but in my experience I want things the are black to be BLACK! So no need to thin down the dye, and it will take longer to dry and might leave the color kind of dull instead of vibrant. Almost every single piece I ever work on I wish I could leave it plain, and sometimes I am right, maybe it would have looked better just natural, and hen I make the background black and the lines with a brush, it really comes to life. If it where me I would make that seat Black and Natural, then do the oil/beeswax finish...And then make the lace black...but that is me...it is your seat and the artist:) It is a lot more work to build up black dye then to just dye it black from the beginning...DO NOT THIN IT DOWN! Just go straight for the throat and don't try to shade it...it will look cheesy!!!!!!! As they say at surfing meets and tattoo shops go big or go home:) PS. You still have some work to do on the nose and lips...practice it on a scrap piece, cut them with the swivel knife and beveler, and give a little shape to the lips they look to flat still, I know you have been putting it off in fear that you might overdue it, but it must be done..like pulling off a band aid:) hahahahaha---_=)e -
I used a closed cell foam. It is waterproof and you can shape it with various sandpaper attachments like on a drill or anything that spins. It is available in many different thicknesses and can be glued and stacked to get the desired level and shape.

Look Great! I am though surprised they allowed you to use those letter stamps. That font is the one they based the Hells Angels Font from, just tweaked a little with curvy ends. Outlaws have more of an Old English lettering....but if the client ok'd it then GREAT! I do a lot of MC stuff, and they are always very adamant about using the right font even if I have to hand draw the letters. Some guys don't care if I only use the stamps, but 99% do. Colors and Fonts are Club owned, and no 2 Mc's have the same. If you mix/wear the wrong ones you could get into some deep water. For the safety and care of your clients you should always do the right color and font. Especially when doing work for any of the biggest 8 clubs.

I am so glad you changed your picture! Ok check out my quickie snowflake and give something a whirl.... I posted it right before this post so it is on the 1st page... Happy Carving:) I have been just digging and digging the last couple days, and it has put me quite a bit behind, but I wanted to post up something..I am in the midst of crazy 51 Ford Door panel madness, while trying to get some smaller stuff done as well, so this is going to be my post for a while:) Hope you're staying warm, Cheers, Chancey -
February 2012 Challenge
chancey77 replied to chancey77's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Ok so since i have a serious amount of work to do right now I sketched out and just carved the picture into the leather and gave the skull and a couple other pieces the swivel bevel treatment, I am going to finish this into a full on F*"#€ Snow seat but as of right now I have tons of stuff to make for clients... But that being said, I just wanted to go ahead and post something so you could get a good idea that this challenge isn't just about making a real life snow flake, but searching you natural talents that you all have and come up with something that looks like a snow flake from a distance, but maybe it isn't just a run of the mill piece of scrap art, maybe you can come up with something original...I know it is a little cheesy, but we all know it was a heck of a lot of fun to try! I hope some of you give this challenge a shot:) Chancey -

WOW! Did you get any pictures of the Dodge??? What a waste of a hide! I like to also fid old wooden cutting boards and strange old kitchen tools from the 40's,50's to use those on projects as well, the more cut up the boards are the better. I just got about 6-10 of them all different sizes and shapes, 1 even had some old hemp rope handles on it, it is about 8"x8" and will make a cool sign on someones boat after I make a leather name plaque or picture to furniture spot nail it to. -

The tripple is almost exactly the same...you just start it different the first x is everything, from there it is almost identical. I use it when there is 2 real thick pieces like 9-10 oz going together like on a saddle bag, it spreads wider covering more of the edges. It doesn't leave a gap going from the whole to the edge like the double loop. I am not sure you have reading material for it, but here is a easy one to look at and give it a go on some scrap. This is the loop link:) http://www.kingsmerecrafts.com/page97.html'>http://www.kingsmerecrafts.com/page97.html This is the home Pages The web site is very old(like still one of the first ones), and pretty crappy, but just scroll down o the bottom to a contents drop down box and see what they have on the site..They do have some cool stuff with diagrams that you might enjoy. http://www.kingsmerecrafts.com/
