So far I have 17hrs into this panel. I have a meticulous log book on tooling time. So lots to go...deep sigh....and an evil laugh. aka AAEL!

Well...for local use in Atlanta there is no shortage of Goodwill or Salvation Army..search though old purses and bags and see what you can scavenge, that is always cheep, much cheaper than shipping brass parts and it is local...I live in Finland ; land of over a 1,000 lakes, so there is no shortage of boat supply shops that always have great heavy duty brass hardware. I also buy for recycling stores similar to good will, and shoe cobbler supply shops they also have good quality brass snaps rivets and buckles. But for a quick / cheap find...Goodwill or Salvation army! I make regular trips to shops like that looking for brass.. and high end purses have much better parts maybe they where 50-100+ when they where new, but at goodwill all day 2-5 bucks:) and when you buy a lot of bags you can haggle with the manager for a better price...after all they did get all their stuff for free:)

All I can really say is I have been blessed with good timing...I only discuss who is actually pertinent to the topic and my influence...in actuality if I made a list you might kill yourself...and that would suck! As far as the depth...about half as deep as the leather is and for the raised ears and mouth I just cut in sideways with my swivel knife as deep as the wedge on the blade is...kind of like a pedal lifter, but I just used what was close and what I thought would give a better effect.

Well....Jinx was a cartoon cat (no likeness), but this is an original Mike Malone aka Rollo Banks painting that I am using. Mike Malone was actually THE GUY who invented Flash Sheets for tattoo Parlors, before him, this part of the tattoo art form was non existent!!!!! He is one of the top of the top amazing artists and painters in this field. He Committed Suicide in 2007 and was a 6 foot 300 pound monster teddy bear, but battled long time illness and just could not take it anymore...I got a tattoo from him in 2000 in NYC and I have to say hey was amazingly fast and had a very light hand..(those of you that have been tattooed by different artists know what I mean by that) Any'who..... He was Sailor Jerry's protege starting in 1971 in Hawaii and bought his business when Jerry died in 1973. When you are looking at Sailor Jerry Flash you are looking at what Mike Malone did to Jerry's artwork.... He is an amazing inspiration to anyone who has ever been even interested in tattooing and was THE GUY who invented most of the equipment and flash sheets still used everywhere world wide today. He is also the guy who created tattoo colors being used in roses and ships back in the 1970's before that it was black ink or green ink. So if you have a tattoo and it has color you can thank Mike Malone for that! The least I can do is try my best to pay homage and as much respect to him and his work as possible..... Any way, back to JINX- Jinx is like when 2 people say exactly the same thing at the same time you say-JINX and that person cannot talk until someone calls their name for some reason...it is bad luck and and sort of the same as a HEX...so this is the JINX PROOF CAT! Believed by the person who wears it to ward off such evil actions:)

Some Sheridan Style Filigree
chancey77 replied to Jarrett V's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
4oz on top of 3 oz----That sheridan looks real good! For such a light weight I think it looks awesome! Nice depth...on the door panels I am working right now, it is 5-6 oz and I thought it was looking to thin...I always use 8+oz so maybe I just need to dig deeper into the 5oz....and trust it...very inspiring! Thanks for posting it! -
Making A Template For A Solo Seat?
chancey77 replied to lull0713's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
hahahaha I used to make them out of paper as well, but then I figured out how to get rid of that step and just transfer it using the wing divider:) I use a templet when making the pan so it goes with the contour and radius of the bike frame, but then I came up with one that fits just about any HD or Triumph/BSA/Matchless/whatever chopper frame:) 2 sizes 1 large 1 Smaller they have about a 1.5" difference all the way around, for a sleek chopper look and average size person. Large is more comfy but made more for a bigger butt:) But for making 2 sided seat leathers I usually 1. Just make the tops first, cut it out then; (unless it is padded; then they have to be made separately) 2. Take another piece face down use the top and make a mirror image, 3.Punch out the wholes together and label what is top and what is bottom....5mm is about 3/16 but 1/4 is ok:) In my experience trying to make the paper template and getting it right is much harder than just marking it with the wing divider (because of the contour of the seat pan and paper flexing out of the way and messing up a line), 4. Using a sharpie to darken in your wing divider line, then just cut it out. And it costs less materials, NO TAPE; NO PAPER/CARDSTOCK=1 less step=time=money:) I need a week off just to make all the videos I want to:)hahaha -

SEAT PAN ON LEATHER AND USE A WING DIVIDER ABOUT 5MM WIDE AND START GOING AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE PAN FOR THE BOTTOM...MAKE SURE LEATHER IS FACE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! THE REPEAT FOR THE TOP! WITH THE PADDING ALREADY ON IT. I JUST PUT THE PAN ON MY KNEE FOR THE CONTOUR... PAPER,AND SCHEMATICS ARE FOR THE BIRDS!!!!! JUST DO IT! -

hahahahaha I have waist high snow here right now...so a little dusting is nothing to worry about....a black snow city snow cone, now that is seriously wrong! hahahah Which flavor would you like, Bus, Tractor, or Mercedes Diesel??? Here is a picture for ya....That is how deep the snow is now:) -
Ya I have a couple old tandy ones from the 60's, and i like a straight blade, or hollow ground the best, just thought I would throw it out there:) I was thinking I would get a B.K or Wrangler, but I like old tools that still work. I really love the back story, maybe that is more than just something that is brand spanking new and is scientifically made to precision, I was thinking something with some Mojo in it.....

It is pretty surreal, the whole thing....I make I.L stuff for people all the time, he touched people he never even met! Pretty awesome. I am about to start a belt for a Finnish biker that made a trip to NY last summer just so he could go look at where he used to work and pay a visit to some of Larry's old haunts, now I am about to make a belt for him....I will post it here after I am done so you can check it out.... I have some really cool stories about Larry, but this isn't the place for that:) Your seats look GREAT Rickey! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
