Hi all, Here is a clutch purse I recently finished. Although I like the insides of kits the drawback is matching the laceing holes as I like mine closer. This is Craftaid #2055 cut and tooled diff.As you can see I cut the flower petals very close and tooled the design to my liking. Thanks Dan

[/color]Hi All, Had a fellow wanting a purse for his wife and after deciding on the style I asked what sort of tooling he may want. After a bit says OH Just put apples on it.I zasked if he was sure and he says Well there are apples all over my house so I know she likes them. I asked about the parren, if he would like a tree, apples in a bowl or just here and there. He said I don't care your work looks good just make one with apples any way you want.Well without a pattern and having never seen apples tooled before .This is what he gets as I had to draw a pattern myself and I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Hope the Mrs. likes it

Hi all , I have found something that works also. I cut the end like Johanna does and then wet the lace just alittle (mouth) and then rolled it with my fingers tight. The compression did the trick.Well it worked every time for me anyway. Thanks all for the advice Dan

Hi everyone ,Here is a couple pics of a small photo album I just finished laceing. The inverted pattern is from the front and back cover of Inverted Leather Carving By Al Stohlman.Funny thing is I didn't really notice how nice this pattern was for over a year after I had the book. I was always looking at the inside of the book. Kinda like that forest and tree thing. Dan

What's your LEAST favorite part of leather work?
Dan Hammons replied to pepin1948's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
No there is no such thing as having to many patterns untill I can't remember if it is in an old leather craftsman , or an Al Stohman Book or just where I seen it but I know it's here somewhere . Maybe it was a Doodle page . That doesn't happen very often but it does from time to time. I know I have more than I can do in a life time Unfortunatly Dan -
Hi Alex, This is a good place and we are glad you stayed. There are no guilds here in Utah eiathr but there is an internet leather guild that alot of us here belong to with lots of help and information. I think you would enjoy it if you are wanting to learn. The fee is only $10 a year and you will save 10 times that by not making mistakes. Alot of helpful people there as well as here Dan iilg.com

Rose i guess mine would have to be deciding just what pattern to put on a project. I must have to many patterns. NOT!! And as far as styles go . I really like the older floral and scroll patterns but the New Sheriden round and round and round patterns are boring to do. Just my 2 cents! Dan -
That is some very nice work on the faces of Custer and Sitting bull!!!! Very nice indeed . I wouldn't want to put that in my pocket . lol Dan

I do believe you have the leather bug and a knack for this. Keep up the good work Dan

Hey Freak Welcome to the Board if you don't quit now The addiction could last a lifetime .The leather bug I have is incurable so I have learned to live with it and yes it does get worse. As too dying are you refurring to spirit dyes and every color you think of? If you would like you can see some examples of that on my website and if thats what ya want to do i can point ya in the rite direction and give a little hard earned advice lol Dan http://highcountryleatherart.com/

Hi All Here is a pic I did of a Green wing Teal awhile back. Here you can see the need to matt away from objeacts and the need to be able to blend your colors. I used deluted spirit dyes except for the white of coarse. I found the pattern on an old calander. Dan
