  1. That is such a cool pattern. I ordered a couple 18oz. Flasks and I have an order to put the same carving on one of those. It should make a cool Flask. The friend who wants the flask is going to take me out next month with his dogs a tree a lion just becauce we can. lol I'll be taking me some pics of the cougar and then we will get the dogs and leave . should be a blast .
  2. Thanks , All of the coloring is done with diff. shades of deluted dye. The roses and leaves were dyed with 2:1 yellow first and then the other colors added . The same thing was done on the Bass and Dragon except were the white was needed.
  3. Hi All, I few items that I finished latly . I think what I really want for Christmas is a little more time .LOL Dan
  4. Nice carving on the cats Cecil! They look very good.
  5. Very Nice and clean work! I love the layout and your beveling is super!
  6. Hey Cecil, I have had the best results by applying Gum Tragacanth to the flesh side and rubbing the belt with a deer antler while the Gum Tragacanth dries. It leaves the back smooth slick and without any fibers showing. Hope this helps Dan
  7. Hi Melodyand glad your here. I have seen your work before and it is masterful and an insperation to see.
  8. Here are a few orders that I have recently finished.
  9. They look good to me and I would think that you will be getting orders for some custom ones also. It's hard to find ones that have all the features that diff. trades want . Good Luck !
  10. I agree! If you can't drive a nail with a $5 hammer a $80 hammer ain't gonna help!! A good set of the older 20-30 tools we use the most can be put together off of ebay without having to take out a loan if that is something a person wants to do but the bottom line is that Craft Tools are still resonably priced and a good value when you compare them to the carving Dale has posted. Would $50-$80 tools have mave made his carving 5 to 8 times better ?
  11. Welcome Jordon, I think that makes four of us from Utah that I know of . I'm up here in the Uintah Basin.
  12. They are used to transfer the pattern to your project after it has been cased. There should be instructions on casing leatherin every book you have on leather crafting unless you inheirted all the supplies and no instructions . You need to dampen the leather and let it sit untill it starts returning to its nateral color and then lay the craftaid on the leather and rub it with some thing flat snd you will have a pattern to follow with your knife
  13. I bought mine from a guy in Story Wyo. but can't remember his name right off hand . He also makes cutting plates in the sheridan style
  14. I think you could sell some of those little strippers{leather}.
  15. These are the ones that I use . I'd be lost without that small one . As far as getting one that fits good without having to sand it I have had my best luck with spikes. As you can see these have the same basic curve and they fit well in my hand. The great thing about finding one you like is that it is ready to go......The Buck did all the polishing for you.
  16. Cool !! I have done a few roughout purses and have found that alot of people like them simply because they are differant and for the fact that a piece of sandpaper is all that is required to clean them. Very Nice !!
  17. Welcome to our little corner on the net. With the folks and information you will find here things will come back to you soon.
  18. What Shirly said !!! Welcome !!
  19. We were all a newbie once and I for one will always be on this journey called leather craft and art. Welcome and enjoy!!
  20. Everyone is welcome here. It's nice to get good sound advice from differant angles and feels good when you feel you have helped a fellow leatherworker with something . Welcome and enjoy!
  21. Nice Belt Cecil and Welcome to the best site on the net! We are all just happy to be here and I'm sure you will be too.
  22. Hey Mike Nice Purse! I have found that when useing the Tan Kote a little goes a long ways. I put a small amount on my wool and contine rubbibg in a cirular motion as the Tan kote drys. When useing more than one finish or anytime I put a finish over an antique I have found that a light touch is best. The antique when put over Neat-Lac may be dry but it is just sitting on top of the Neat-Lac and can be almost completly removed depending on the amount of Tan Kote and how hard you rub on it. Its all trial and error for me .lol
  23. You can still get good leather but it's not gonna come out of a Tandy kit right now........I don't know where Tandy is getting their kit leather but they need to change suppliers cuz the way it is now I don't care if it's even in the bag cuz I'm not gonna use it anyway. to me it looks and feels like a radish you should have pulled a month ago . It must be all their kits cuz the leather in these flasks are the same way as the leather in the ones you two got ,
  24. I am two magazines shy of having the first 25 years of the Leather Craftsman and from reading them the Tandy Company then and the one today are not even close to being the same company .They had huge picture carving contests every year with multi divisions and for that era some real nice prizes such as a Al Stolhman carved picture . Craft aids used to come in your Magazine and they would run the flower of the month contest. It appears to me that their goal as a company back then was to get people excited about leather work and keep that intrest alive . If you bought one of thier clock kits or a holster kit from them you got Live Oak Leather wth it . Your free Doodle Page was waiting for you at your favorite store because not only did it get people in their store it also kept their intrest up and they felt like Tandy Leather cared about evey person that walked through the door. These days if someone wants an Ashly Clutch purse and it is a nice purse I tell them that they are really just buying the insides cuz the leather that comes in 80% of them ain't worth putting on a purse that nice. Sad but true and if I want them to come back I have to be honest with them. These are the oldest or should I say the only Tandy Patterns that I have seen with Dave Tandy copy right
  25. From the pics you posted I'm thinking that I could learn a thing or two about putting that wallet together. It looks really good .
