  1. Excellent work! I hope I can turn out such beautiful work in time. I really enjoy the level of detail you put in your work.
  2. Like most here I am a hobbiest, so I hand sew my holsters. I have gotta make/get a stitching horse so I can complete my projects easier.
  3. Pick up a copy Stohlman's book on holster making. It will help get you through making a custom holster. If you are in a time crunch check out the cowboy holster making tutorial pinned at the beginning of this forum. Jim does a good job of covering how to create a custom holster.
  4. Very nice holster. The rattlesnake inlay really stands out the way you dyed your holster.
  5. Thanks, for the advice Dwight. I appreciate it.
  6. I recently began making the shoulder holster in Stohlman's How To Make Holsters Book. I have the holster support all cut out, however it is to small. So two questions have popped up. What is the proper way to measure for proper fit? Is it possible to merely lengthen the strap that goes over the shoulder to solve the problem? This is my first attempt at making a shoulder holster, so any advice I can get is appreciated. Thanks, Steve.
  7. I currently use olive oil as a means of dying leather. I light coat of olive and some sun makes a tan colored holster. I will have to try the coffee and tea as a means of dying my leather projects. Thanks for sharing this with me.
  8. I like the contrast in colors. This is the first time I have heard of using tea to dye leather.
  9. That is a very nice rig. That is a very interesting stamping pattern on the rig. How did you create it?
  10. Nice work. I especially like the snake skin inlays.
  11. I too have marveled at the design of that shoulder holster. I did some research on it but the pictures are not as good showing the level of detail needed to make cuts necessary to recreate the holster. I ended up finding some really good pictures of the Safariland Model 19 on EBay. The link below shows some great detail. It looks like the holster is constructed of two pieces of leather sewn together like a pancake holster. It looks like the holster should be fairly easy to make. The harness will be the area that will require some work, as far as getting it right. I was able to find some good examples of Bianchi Upside Down Shoulder Holsters as well. I searched by using "Bianchi Shoulder Holsters" and "Safariland Shoulder Holsters." Amazing how many photographs sellers will post to show the item is in good condition. Still might consider picking on up if the price is right for the ability to physically inspect it and see how it was put together first hand as opposed to threw pictures. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Safariland-19-S-W-Med-Frame-Leather-Shoulder-Holster-Gun-Pistol-Police-/300901513231?pt=US_Holsters&hash=item460f20b80f
  12. Treed, thanks for sharing your tutorial on how to make magazine pouches.
  13. Excellent work. I like the way the basketweave turned out.
  14. This is a very good point. Thanks for taking the time to share this wisdom. I was thinking I might try selling some of my work as I get better. As such I was beginning to consider the idea of how I would warranty my work.
  15. SIxer could send me the pattern as well. I have a some people asking me to make them different duty belt items, handcuff cases among the requests.
  16. After much lurking and learning I felt it was time to share some of my work. Let me know what you think. This is the second holster I made. It is for my bother's Taurus .357 with a three inch barrel. The next three images are of a holster I made for my S&W Model 65 .357 with a four inch barrel.
  17. Good job on the Roosevelt holster. The other holsters on your page are also very nicely done.
  18. Nice work. The marbling effect of the horse hide being dyed does make an interesting appearance. Once I have made a few holsters I think I will try using horse hide. What did you use to dye it?
  19. The black on black works well, especially with the stainless on the 1911. The tooling on the reenforcement on the second holster adds a little something extra to set off the dual tone of the second holster. Nice work.
