Hey Bob, I made this pair for Dusty's son. It's the second pair I've made for him. -
Get out the SUNGLASSES
Elton Joorisity replied to Elton Joorisity's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
First of all I need to thank everyone for the compliments. I started building chaps at an early age. ( I was 5 or 6 and I used scraps to build chaps for my younger sister's Barbie) As for Steve B's question; I have only built a few pair WITH zippers. I have never had complaints about leg straps, this is the norm for this style and for chinks as well. Alan Bell; they probably would have gotten a little arena dirt and manure today had our stock contractor not pulled the pin for practise this afternoon. Thanks again everyone. -

I have to openly admit that I saw that flower on a pair of chaps that Ty Skiver had built and fell in love with it!! -
Built these for a friend of mine. They are undoubtedly THE brightest color I have ever used!! The body is Hide House's 4/5 oz Emerald Green, the fringe is metallic silver and the overlays are black(as I'm sure you can tell) Here's two more. SORRY about the SIZE!!!!

Monthly Floral Carving Challenge
Elton Joorisity replied to ClayB's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Steve Mason talked me into tapping one out for this deal so here it goes. I'm not too sure that I like the flower center that I chose. And as usual I STRUGGLE with my dress cuts. Oh yeah and the old push beader tried to run away on me. I also changed the original pattern a bit to suit my style(I don't even know if I have any style) -
Welcome Gail. How's things down in your neck of the woods? Welcome to our ADDICTION!!!

Proleptic used to have tools on the website quite a bit. Now they seem to have three to four tool sales a year. They have a big one coming up in march or april I believe. Just keep checking the site and be ready to buy cause the good tools don't last long at all. I bought a set of edgers and a set of arch punches from them 3 or 4 yrs ago and for the quality, there is no way you could beat the prices!!!!!!!!!

Ebay leather splitter/skiver new $169.00
Elton Joorisity replied to GMorris's topic in Leather Tools
I have the one that they copied it from (Heritage Splitter from Weavers) Honestly you need three hands to split anything. Don't get me wrong it is sharp and a decent splitter for the money. The thing that makes it a three handed splitter is the fact that you have to hold the handle forward with one hand while you are using it and that causes you to only be able to split a little then shorten up with your pulling hand then split some more... -

Looking for decorative snaps...
Elton Joorisity replied to EagleSmith's topic in Hardware and Accessories
Hide House South carries many different decorative snap caps as does Timco Corporation. www.hidehousesouth.com and www.timcocorporation.com -
I get the majority of mine from Rod and Denise. The balance come from Bill Bean and who ever else has a reputable tree and time to build me one!!

Ryan, look on the net for Lexan. You should be able to buy it on line and not have to buy a huge chunk. If you know anyone with a good router and set of bits, they should be able to shape it for you. As far as getting those edges smoothed out you can either just keep using sandpaper or you can also use Acetone(nail polish remover) as it will smooth it out when you wipe it on. Big Sky Die Company used to sell rub sticks and they aren't too far from you I don't think. They sold seat sticks, bouncers, and other rub sticks. I will try to hunt down their info soon.

Not tryin to sound rude but does'nt anyone know how to draw a pattern anymore??? Tape measure+paper+pencil+a few other necessary tools=PATTERN

I built these for my parents. They have been hounding me to make them something since I started. I modified tooling patterns from Capriola's to my liking and a little more to my own style. And this might sound crazy but I stamped the ranch name on the one with the brand crooked on purpose...I had to give my dad something to pick at!!

Good topic Bruce!! Ihave worked on a few myself. I also build a lot of half leathers. For binds and quarter binds I prefer synthetic as do my customers. I do not use biothane but rather the left overs from my stiffener. The belting I use comes in a 4" width and most of my leathers are 2 1/2" so I have leftovers. I was using a belting resembling baler belting except it is brown and stiffer. I am currently out of it and would really like to find more. As far as rodding trees I have yet to do one. Not that I haven't been asked to but rather I have not had time when they have asked.( most guys want them done during the week before the next rodeo of course) When it comes to ground seats I firmly believe in a tin strainer and prefer 18 guage. It's not that a lot of guys are real hard on saddles it's usually the volunteer help at the stripping chute that are hardest on them. A good friend of mine worked for who I consider to be the best bronc saddle maker out there being Allan Pursley who builds the Broken Arrow saddles. I have been told that Allan is usually more than willing to help a guy out when it comes to working on bronc saddles. I am trying to make time to spend some time with Allan in the near future although he spends his winters in Arizona.

Here's a couple pics of a photo album that I did for Candace's dad. The main body is Mossy Oak Breakup leather. We make rifle, slings, cell phone cases, and pretty much anything else out of it for her family's hunting and fishing supply store.

I own them and YES they are deffinitely worth it. Gail is an excellent teacher. She shows each pass of a knot in a different color and explains how to expand knots further. All in all they are very easy to follow and learn from.
