Here's the latest pair. Leather came from Sheridan Leather Outfitters

Darc, if you have a Home Building Center or Home Hardware head over and look in the utility knife section. They should have some small blades that I use all the time to cut rawhide. They look like miniature utility knife blades with a hole in them. They are pretty stiff and sharp. The nice thing is that it's about $2.00 a pack and you can re-sharpen them with a strop. Just what I use, Elton.

here's one of the two

I would just like to take a moment to thank Daryl of D Bar Leather for the wonderful maker's stamps that he made me. Daryl was extremely patient and offered FANTASTIC service. Unfortunately we can't say the same thing for the post office (hey Daryl) I suggest to anyone in the market to go ahead and send him an email or call him up. :D

Another top notch rig as usual Steve. If my lines are even close to your's I'll be happy. Love the lillies too.

What are your favorite YouTube videos?

Bruce was that your son selling at the sale on there? -
I heard that the entertainment at the free BBQ is gonna be OUTSTANDING!!!!

I've always just used the brown paper that my leather comes wrapped up in. I was taught that it burnishes the wax into the thread and polishes it so that the wool won't stick. I hardly ever hand stitch skirts but I still do this to my thread every time I have to hand stitch.

Marlon, First off, Osborne's made two styles of compasses. One being the style you have and the other being the style I have. Second of all, Bob Douglas' versa groover does have an"L" shaped egde guide and not an "L" shaped blade. The best comparison that I can think of to the compass that I have is the one that Jeremiah Watt makes. It's darn near identical. I hope I was able to clear things up.

Yes it is a versa groover tip. They come in three sizes.

I have an old Osborne compass groover with a medium Douglas tip in it and wouldn't get rid of it for love nor money!!!

I'm going. As far as the class schedule, I had mine last year at this time for Sheridan!!

Talk to a tree maker. Denise on here could probably help you out. I know a guy that got some scraps from them to build folded hondos with and it was THICK

New edgers, made out of silverware?
Elton Joorisity replied to Randy Cornelius's topic in Leather Tools
Randy, I know the exact edgers you mean. I was tempted to bu a set just to see what they were like. My girlfriend makes rings out of silverware handles and let me tell you some of that chinese and taiwanese stainless is TOUGH. If stainless is being used and this guy has done his homework I'd almost bet that they would be pretty good edgers. -
I learned to build tools with 10" common spikes. I use 10" nails because I can make two tools with one nail. The steel in these is great to work with and is easy to polish. I am starting to use stainless bolts because any of my steel stamps with checkering or lines tend to be harder to keep from getting black spots on the leather.

I'd have to say Dbarleather as well. Daryl is fast and great to work with. I emailed him the info on a sunday and the stamp was done on monday afternoon. The one I ordered with a logo was a little longer cause we had trouble with the complexity of the logo but it was still done by that friday.

If you want to learn Harnessmaking check out www.proleptic.net they have a GREAT harness making manual. My dad's a harness maker so I might be able to answer questions, being that I worked along side him for years.

I paid $7.00 for mine on ebay. Had to put new wood on the handle but I am a carpenter so that wasn't a big deal for me to find some real nice hardwood flooring scraps

Not trying to Hijack anything here but if anyone needs a maker's stamp at an unbelievable price get ahold of Dayl at dbar leather. Just try not to give him the SKULL CRAMPS that I have!! He understands what I mean by skull cramp and I'll post my stamps as soon as we both finish pulling our hair out over my pain in the butt logo!! He's a class act guy and is awesome to work with!!!!

My patterns are pretty darn simple for the body of the chaps. I drew my patterns up about 12 years ago and have never looked back or felt the need to change them. GH gave a pretty good little tutorial. Not too nuch that I could add. Styles have changed over the years. the best way is to look at other chap maker's chaps and try to make your own pattern from the info that you take note of. my outseam is a straight line until the curve in the beginning of the yoke area. my inseam is also straight but is not perfectly parallel to the outseam. The best way I think to start fresh with a pattern is to look at chap order forms. As far as rough stock chaps you only need a few measurements to build them but it helps to have LOTS of different refference points when making a pattern. PM me with any questions if you wish.

Can anyone point me to a good supplier of gator or croc printed leather? I need a good assortment of colors.

Get out the SUNGLASSES
Elton Joorisity replied to Elton Joorisity's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
I have a domain name but we haven't had time to get at the site building part just yet. Thanks for the compliments. -
My current shop( half the basement) has a concrete floor. I have interlocking mats in front of the bench and the cutting table. My new shop will have a wood floor with the same mats. There's just gonna be more of them cause I'll have the room!!!

I agree 100% with Dink. I find them just as easy to do up that way as the other.

Not too shabby for being made by you Steve. HAHAHA. Nice stand too.
