clintsdivco replied to clintsdivco's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I entered this in the Missouri State Fair and just got the judging results back. I won first in my class and best of show in the tooled leather division. -

Vintage Bicycle Leather Tank
clintsdivco replied to chriscraft's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
That is very nice. One of the most unusual projects I have seen on here. Everything looks flawless to me. It will really make that bicycle stand out. -
Here is a bible cover I've been working on for a customer. Hope to get it laced before I leave for an extended vacation. The angel is embossed .

Pistol Carrying Case
clintsdivco replied to clintsdivco's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for all the compliments The main reason I did all the tooling and letter carving was because this is my entry into the Missouri State Fair competition and is designed to primarily be a show piece rather than an everyday use item. I used brown pigskin suede for the lining over 1 inch thick foam padding. -
That is very striking. Great job on the tooling and finishing. I love the contrast.

Those are really nice. I can easily see the 20 hours to complete one of those. Interesting concept.

I just completed a zippered carrying case for my pistol. My first attempt at putting together a zipper and installing it. I duplicated my pistol at near life size and I embossed it to make it stand up from the leather. I lined it with brown pig skin suede and used one inch thick foam padding to protect the pistol.

Just to give credit where credit is due, Trekster is the one who gave me the instructions on how to do this. Clint

Really nice job. Nice job on the carving and I really like the coloring. Clint -
Waiting for your update. Did everything go OK? I bought a used cast iron machine a couple of months ago and I love using mine. I had a few issues with mine at first, but got all the answers off of this forum to get all the bugs worked out and now it is working perfectly. Hope you enjoy yours as much I have enjoyed mine. Words On A Belt? Best Way. Stamping, Carving?
clintsdivco replied to BarnDog's topic in How Do I Do That?
When I first started, a year ago, I couldn't carve decent looking letters so bought stamps. It limited my choices of lettering to much to suit my needs, so I mainly practiced carving letters until I could do good looking letters. Now I never use stamps and it has opened an entire world of lettering. There are so many fonts available on the Internet and carving eliminates the restrictions of stamps. As mentioned in the earlier post, it depends an your ability and comfort zone. Here are a few examples of different lettering I have done as you requested. -
Rifle Sling In Progress
clintsdivco replied to clintsdivco's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for the compliments. Pete, I just started doing leatherwork a little over a year ago and I got the ergo swivel blade handle within the first couple of weeks thinking it might help with my carving, but practice is what helped my carving. I liked the feel of the ergo knife better than the one in the Tandy beginners kit, and still do. Since my skills have improved I can do the same things with any swivel knife I pick up, but like the feel of the ergo knife in my hand better than any others. Probably just from being so used to it, and it is the feel that I like, not the performance. For performance I prefer the 1/4 inch hollow ground straight blade over any of the others I have tried (I have only used Tandy's blades since I have started). -

I got the rifle sling done. Here is the picture as promised. Thanks for looking. -
I started on a rifle sling today for a customer. I've got the tooling done and hope to get it colored tomorrow. I will post more pictures when it's done. Clint

Very nice looking bag. The lacing really sets it off.

Thanks again, Trekster. I made the modification you suggested yesterday and it is working just like you said. I did not have to adjust the tension setting either. Clint

Thanks for that tip, Trekster. I think I have read just about every post on this board about the Tippmann Boss,, and never saw anything about this issue. I will definitely try doing that tomorrow. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with my Boss. Thanks again, Clint

Glad to hear that it's working good for you now. I just bought a cast iron machine a couple of months ago and after sorting out a few issues, thanks to this forum, it has performed almost flawlessly. The only problem I am having with mine now is the thread on the spool tends to drop down around the stand the spool is mounted on. I poked a hole in the bottom of a plastic bowl and put it over the post on the thread stand and then put the thread spool on the post and the bowl keeps the thread from falling over the stand, this has helped a lot. Hope you continue to have good luck with it. I love mine. Clint

Thanks for the compliment. All of the lettering and numbers except "STANDARD" in the logo were carved in the leather with a swivel knife. I then put white paint in the swivel cuts then painted the blue up to the edges of the swivel knife cuts. I use Angelus leather shoe paint and seal it all with Super Shene. The STANDARD in the logo was painted with a very small brush, it was too small to try to cut with a swivel knife. The customer owns an automotive service station and Hund is his last name. Thanks for all the compliments. Clint
