  4. Who make the best V-gouge/ V-Groover and where would I get it?
  5. Everyone one has there own idea of the best and highest quality tools and there are different reason that make certain tools better than others. Steel type and materials used, Design, and price. Whats in your tools box? Name the best tools and who makes them that you appreciate and why! Round Knives, Mauls, Stitch groovers, Sewing Awls, Scratch awls, Burnishers, Compass, Stitch chisels, prick chisels, Edgers, Stitching Pony and Clam, Hole Punches....Etc. Stitch Groove- I just Bought a Versa Groove and when comparing it to tandy's, wow its night and day. Round Knife- I love my LW round knife especially the back cut portion Slowly building up my Barry king collection, very satisfied with the quality of beveler's and sewing awl Maul - the BK slant maul is my favorite, the grooves in the head are perfect I have started accumulating various array of tools, started out with tandy and slow started to buy higher quality tools. LW, BK, Osbourne, Chuck Smith, Blanchard, etc. This all Started when try to find a quality V-groover and I still havent found one, anyone know a high quality v-groove?
  6. thank you everyone for responding, for the printer advise, & red pen and paper advice. learn new ways of doing things everyday
  7. I use adobe illustrator for some of my patterns and printing on transparency paper deletes the step of tracing your drawing on regular transparency paper, so your not tracing it twice, 1. onto t-paper 2. onto the leather.
  8. I use these with the printer I have now but I have to tape them to was regular white sheet of paper for my printer to even print on them. When the printing is done I have to let the ink dry for about 2 hr before use so the ink does not smudge, even after they are dry enough it still smudges. What printer is best for this film and if there is an alternative to this, what is it?
  9. this is getting off topic quick. Back to the edge wax mix please
  10. i just use it as edge paint, dark brown. if u didnt burnish your edge then put edge coat on it, it would look pretty ragged. Just the way i do it and i am satisfied with how it looks. Bees wax waterproofs
  11. No one else? Anyone, Anyone at all?
  12. I use to use straight beeswax, its very sticky. I dont know if it the right procedure but I used edge coat before putting the beeswax on, while spreading it on it would take the edge coat off with it. I went to Hobby lobby and bought beeswax and paraffin blocks to make my own 50/50 mix. It made a big difference . The mixture glides on without any damage to the edge coat.
  13. I have recently made my own wax for edge finishing 50/50 Beeswax and paraffin, I have also seen proprietary blended waxes for sale with special oils. Does anyone want to share info on different oils and wax people have used in there wax blends (besides bees and paraffin) the ratios and benefits . I have seen candelilla wax used There is probably a thread for this already...if so Link it
  14. I got another response from from saddle back leather and they told me to contact someone at "oldmexicomanufacturing.com" which (i didnt know this) is apparently saddleback leather's mother company Thank you for the response , please let me know!
  15. Anyone know where to find 316 SS hardware. I have messaged back and forth with Saddleback leather about there hardware and they refer me to tandy and google searches. Basically avoiding and dodging the the question..
  16. Im looking for the bar stock they make leather tooling stamps out of. I bought some that are cut to size and gimped at sheridan leather store in Wyoming when I was working up there and used them all up (with no success) i will call and ask if they have anymore later. I need another source, anyone know?
  17. I ordered some custom templates and I'm having trouble getting her to respond to my emails. Some of the email are template changes that are important. What's the deal?
  18. thanks for that info, I really appreciate it!
  19. I maker leather tally book covers and was wondering what is the best type and braid of glue to use. I currently use Tandy leather contact cement to glue the inside sleeve to the cover. when i do all my trimming, sanding and burnishing the cement seems to leave, even after sanding, glue that making the edge not get the best burnish id like to see. Does anyone know of any other types of glue that I should use that would be better for the type of work i'm doing. Glue that holds edges and corners together, during and after sewing, just as well or even better that allows for the best burnish?
  20. The width i'm looking for is 3/8 to 1/2, if they make it in those sizes.
  21. Ok, thanks for that gem of wisdom. To be honest I don't know if your comment was a sarcastic comment or not, I don't know what type of person you are. I found it to be a little rude. Do you have something again the industry i'm in? That's what i'm getting out of your reply. Anyways, not many companies that I have looked at have any thing better than braided that is smaller than 3/4"
  22. Thank you Chuck for the advise! I will strongly consider a replaceable strap. Back the drawing board!
  23. I'm looking for quality stainless steel rivets, like the ones saddleback leather uses. Any suggestions?
  24. I work in the oil and gas industry and I make tally book covers that include an elastic strap. Over time the elastic gets worn out and starts sagging, I know that the kind I use probably isn't the highest quality. Does anyone know where to get and what type is the most heavy duty/ durable/ high quality elastic strap?
  25. Anyone have a certain way each of you prep your strop how and with what?
