Wallet Holster Design
tiggertlee replied to tiggertlee's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks everyone for your feedback...pretty fun project to see if I could "eyeball" and add to a design.. After a week+ of testing the fit/retention from the MultiGun mold is dead on. I may have to pick up some more models! -
Wallet Holster Design
tiggertlee replied to tiggertlee's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I picked up the dummy gun from knifekits.com site. It is pretty cool it has the trigger guard filled in and the sight channel filled in as well. Resulted in a very tight fit! I saw one of the big names (don't recall which) with a similar design at a show....like the anti print concept didn't like some other features, sat down with some buddies that carry who gave some input...one is a lefty who likes to complain about lack of lefty gun support so that produced the reversible idea lol... -

That came out nice!!! Will put that on my to make list as well.... -
Hi there! After a couple of design iterations, my wallet holster design is nearly complete. A buddy of mine is field testing it hope to have feedback in a couple of weeks, see how it holds up to real field use... I have a couple of cool features, added a brace strap to help with the thumb extraction. Also used screws so the holster can go from lefty to righty (and back again) by the end user....or they can ditch the wallet portion all together if they need to. I've tested this design with the LCP, TCP and Sig p238, all seem to wear well (even tho the pinky extension on the TCP does poke out a bit, the regular mag does not). Should work with other models just need some more blue guns (Or the real things lol) Not sure the design could handle a revolver or bigger gun than that.... Any feedback or critique is welcome!

Simple Phone Sheath
tiggertlee replied to tiggertlee's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Well I am still rather new (less than I year) so don't have much to compare with the Leather Balm (Zack's called and substituted it because they were out of the Feibings Carnuaba Cream). I use it over the dye IF I haven't done any tooling. Anything that gets tooled gets oiled after the tooling before the dye, at least that is what I am doing based on my readings and well it's working so far. The Cream makes the leather feel amazing. It does seem to darken the leather a smidge, just barely, so I tend to stop the dye layers one short of where I think I want to go. I do use Resolene after thru the airbrush as well. Fine mist you can't even tell it is on there after you are done. Couple of passes, 24 hour wait to cure and one more set of passes and I'm ready to buff then I'm done. You can't beat an airbrush for putting on thin coats! Like anything, play around with the combinations on scrap pieces see what you like! -
Thinking About Buying An Airbrush

I have a Badger 360 but would go with an Iwata if I had a second chance. BUT the Badger is better than a dauber any day of the week! -
I love my airbrush, once I started using it I learned I may never use a dauber again! I use the Feibing Oil Dye, thinned 50/50 with denatured to shoot out the brush with. I also picked up an airbrush cleaning station, basically a big heavy glass jar that you can rest your brush in. It has a filter and a hole in it, you can shoot all you want into the jar and it stays in the jar, pretty neat. Between colors I run denatured thru the brush (keep some in a separate jar) just pop off the color I was using slap on the denatured run a few good blasts into the cleaning jar, then pop on the new color, couple quick blasts into the jar to get it primed, then a quick test on some paper to make sure before heading to the leather...and I try to go from lighter to darker during my sessions anyway...ending in black if at all possible... When finished run denatured thru really well into the jar....quick teardown and wipedown with denatured usually has me spic and span. I have a ultrasonic cleaner I'll tear the brush all the way down and toss it into with 50/50 simple green and water and give it a couple cycles, all clean! For Resolene same process just use water instead of denatured. Dye is very easy to clean compared to some paints I've shot before

So a friend of mine wanted me to make her a phone sheath after seeing my old one, just finished it up today, here it is. She wanted a pocket on the front. Also had to have a makers stamp made with my new logo a buddy made for me. BlackRiver Laser cut it for me works like a charm! Details: 4-5 oz leather for the main body. 2 oz kip leather for the pocket. Fiebings Mahogany airbrushed on with Fiebings Black airbrushed on for the sunburst effect (both the oil dye versions). Any comments/suggestions welcomed, still new and learning!

Sizing A Piece Of Leather Slightly Bigger To Fit Something Inside
tiggertlee replied to mtrain17's topic in How Do I Do That?
Cyberthrasher I love a good formula. Especially since I have a request from a friend to make her a device slip and I don't have one to make a pattern off of. So would it be safe to say: Device Width = 4 inches (making up numbers here) Device Depth = 1/2 inch Device Length = 7 inches Leather used = 4 oz Slip Pattern Width = 4 + 1/2 + 4/64 inches? Or double up (since total leather weight is double) to 4 + 1/2 + 8/64 inches? -
Thanks for that, interesting technique. Curious what "opaque finish" would you use as an option?

Simple Phone Sheath

Thanks! No worries very new too.... It is veg tan leather, 4 to 5 oz. I followed the YouTube video Nigel Armitage has up on making the iPhone slip just used different dimensions for my phone.... Resolene gives the leather protection against water, it is an acrylic so it basically fills in the pores. Lots of great discussions here about the use of it! I followed the advice and cut it in half with water for a light coat.... Excited I've got my first order request for another slip for a friend lol...she loved mine she wants one for her iPhone 5 -

Latest little project, a simple phone sheath for my Android phone. 5-6 oz leather. Fiebings Pro Mahogony oil Buffed then Buffed again with Zack's leather balm Glued up, holes punched with stitching iron, stitched with black waxed thread. Edges burnished with beeswax and slicker. Edge Coat painted on, more slicking. Resolene 50/50 light coat If this were going to a friend/customer would that be it? Or should it get one final treatment before it goes out? Any thought or critiques welcome.
