What type of leather engraving do you do with lasers? Any examples? I'm pretty close to you guys. What kind of price are we looking at for one of those Speedy 100 units?

Hey there, I just picked up a Taurus PT709 Slim and made my first from scratch holster for it. I made a few little errors, mainly that rivet that is off a bit. The loops are a little long, but I made them with a 2 inch belt in mind. I find it to be more comfortable than my Crossbreed holster that I spent close to $100 on for another gun. The retention is very good as well.

Before making a belt for somebody I send them this, and ask for the measurement (stole picture from somebody here). I had somebody swear up and down they were a 46" waist and to just make the hole at 46 inches for them. When they measured to the hole they used most often, it was 49". If I would have just listened to them for their waist size, they would have had a completely unusable belt.

My First Holster

It is a cool design. What are you doing to protect the gun from those rivets? -
Ipad Folio

Looks very nice. Stitching is clean. I like to round the end of cutouts just to prevent any eventual tearing. Otherwise, I like everything about it. -
How To I Properly Apply Finish To My Leather Projects?
SmokeCigars replied to nicholas482109's topic in How Do I Do That?
Test the atom wax with a stained piece of scrap first. If you apply it with a cloth, sponge, brush, or anything you rub the surface with, it will remove some finish. I've heard atom wax works really good with an airbrush applied in thin coats, but I don't have an airbrush. -
My First Bag

Looks very nice. If you make the same bag without the big holes punched, it should look amazing. -
Belt For A Captain

I've been trying to get the little rope stamp forever! Tandy never has it when I'm at the store. I thought it could be a cool border tool, but the way you used it looks really cool too. -
Some Recent Holster Work

I like the design of the double snap holsters. They look very nice with the contrasting colors. -
I like bad jokes. I'll take an invite.

Wow holy inflation! Stamps now are about 25 times the price.

Looks beautiful. My boss has been bugging me to start on some saddle bags for him to wear over his shoulder. I guess thats the cool thing to do now.

Hmm that log is a brilliant idea. I've got plenty of hardwood at my cabin that I could do that with. -
Simple Belt
SmokeCigars replied to Shady's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I've learned to wait a minimum of 24 hours before applying finishes. The Tandy ecoflow finishes seem to rub right off unless they have plenty of time to set up. -
First Card-Holder

The design looks nice, stitching is good, the edges could probably use a little cleaning up though. -

I've been thinking about turning a leather mallet on my lathe. I've seen it done where you turn a handle, then run a threaded rod through a bunch of scrap leather and crank it down really tight with a big washer and nut. You can then turn it into a nice mallet head. I think that would be much more quiet than the noise a poly mallet creates. -

If you want to build a really nice workbench for fairly cheap check out the Simpson Strong-Tie corner brackets at Home Depot. I've built two benches from them, and they are much more solid than anything store bought. http://www.homedepot.com/Simpson-Strong-Tie/Simpson-Strong-Tie/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ615Z615/R-100374900/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051#.UQXwRvLHb_I The bench I made for my lathe is amazing. The top has 3/4 ply on it, and I added four bags of sand under the bench top, which makes the whole bench absorb most vibration. Here is a picture of my bench, don't have a picture of my lathe bench unfortunately. -
I am a teacher at an alternative high school in the Detroit area. I also manage a cigar store part time.

Galaxy Note 2 Case

The gentleman I made it for is extremly pleased with it. The phone is held firm enough where you know it will not slide out on you. I did form it with a wood block since I couldn't get a cell phone store to give me a dummy phone. I used some paper printouts of the phone to locate all the holes I needed to cut. The final finishing of all the edges could have used a bit of use, and I've learned a lot to use on future projects. -
Looks very nice. Good clean lines. I'm in the same boat as you with being in an apartment. It really sucks not being able to work late into the night. So far, nobody has complained, but it can only be a matter of time. I'm lucky i'm on the first floor though. I have a tile floor in the kitchen that is over a cement sub floor. I must admit in my quest to be quiet yesterday, I was laying on the floor with my piece of marble sitting on a stack of mouse pads. It made things pretty quiet, but a bit uncomfortable. One of these days I'll have a shop of my own
