  1. Thanks guys, sounds good. I'll give Katsass a shout shortly too....
  2. I started out with the bar and recently I've been trying the fiebings liquid glycerin saddle soap diluted with 50 percent water. I apply with a foam brush. Been getting very good results with both.
  3. I have used a mixture of 50/50 Mop&Glo/Water in place of same ratio of Resolene/Water on a few projects, 2 layer belts and holsters. Comparing both over a few months of use, I'm not seeing much, if any, difference in wear, abrasion, flexibility or toughness. I was talking with a Tandy rep and he believed Mop&Glo contains ammonia which will break down the leather over time. I checked MSDS on it and did not see ammonia listed, just Poly. Resolene on the other hand contains Ammonium Hydroxide. Not trying to get into the chemistry of it, because I wouldn't understand that anyways, just wondering if anyone has run into any long term ill effects of using it. Applying both in a similar manner with a wet sponge applicator, the Mop&Glo goes on easier and almost zero bubbles, where as the Resolene produces more bubbles to smooth out and a longer time to work with it.
  4. Well that will certainly explain why my products are so dark. That and the fact I apply 3 coats of dye to get good coverage I am happy with, although the color is always darker than what I anticipated. I was just thinking that darker color was the trade-off for even coverage. Time to start experimenting.....
  5. Just wondering why you dilute it and at what ratio?
  6. Thanks George, I will check them out.
  7. Thanks folks, yes I will be wet forming the holsters. To give you an idea the last one I just did took about 36 hours to dry. Inside temp was about 65-68. I'm not looking to speed dry the leather, just take it up into the 80 - 90 heat range to give it a boost.
  8. Sorry if this has been discussed before in a different section. I don't seem to be finding a lot of info. I've been searching for ideas on a DIY drying cabinet. Would like it to be long enough to handle belts and also roomy for holsters and other projects. Energy efficient too. I'm in the Midwest so solar may not work too well at least if the past few months of grey skys are any indication. I did see a few using incandescent lights, just looking for additional ideas (plastic container vs. wood, use insulation or don't, should have a fan to move air or not necessary, any extra ideas that you tried that worked or ended up not being worth it, etc.) before I move forward with the build. Pictures would be great if you have them. Thanks in advance.....
  9. Wondering if anyone can recommend a source for spring steel. Looking for 1/2" to 1" width by 4" to 48" or longer in length. Will be used to reinforce holsters and belts. I've seen some which is used in dress making, but lengths are pretty short. Also it may be called by other names.
  10. I actually was running into an issue this weekend when sewing double 8oz layer belt using #24 needle with 277 top/207 bottom. Randomly, the loop would not be formed for the shuttle to catch the thread and would skip stitches. It was recommend for me to try a #25 needle. Once doing that i no longer have the issue.
  11. immiketoo's Cobra video is excellent, definitely check it out. Leather Machine Co. posted a new video on setup and using the Cobra 4 (basically same as Cowboy 4500). Very well done too.. LMC Cobra vids
  12. Love the look! Is that a natural finish or dyed?
  13. I run the inside piece right up to the beginning of the slot for the buckle prong.
