  2. Very nice finishes Thanks for posting these, I think this is the hardener for those interested http://www.goodsjapan.jp/item/leather-craft-items-leather-fi/craft-sha-max-strength-leather/lid=29749012 Do you have a link for the edge kote ?
  3. I posted some stitching clamps in another thread http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=42815&st=15#entry320732
  4. finally back home long enough to take some pictures first off, a very old French one (use between the legs type) has seen a lot of use ! Next up, a German one mounts to a bench, using a ball joint allows you to angle this any way you like Uses a kind of leaf spring (tension can be adjusted) to clamp, works very, very well this one Next the one I use, another German one, very comfortable to use (another between the legs type) Finally, another German one, picked this up recently for next to nothing, rock solid, large clamp set at a nice angle, can already tell this will be my most used, very comfortable using it I have some more, but would need to dig them out I notice almost all of you use clamps at 90 degrees, have you tried angled ones ? I find it much easier to keep the awl angle consistent working at an angle, 90 degree just annoys me !
  5. wow, those are some big tools ! I wonder if I could use them for wallets & belts ?
  6. how many stitches per inch are you looking for ?
  7. from about 8mins on round holes, slanted stitching
  8. no, sorry, I mean casting the stitch, will let you slant the stitching somewhat even though the holes in the leather are round
  9. horizontal slots will result in the leather being pulled apart rather than the holes closing up, think about pulling the stitching tight from the top of one to the bottom of the other, it will open up the holes (thats assuming you would even get a slanted stitch ) vertical would result in weakening the leather can they do round holes ? thats probably the best alternative, you can still slant the stitching by casting it
  10. I spend most of my time between Holland and Germany for work, with lots of other places in Europe and further in between Still have a place just outside Dresden, I was based there for the last 5 years. Should be fully moved out within a couple of months, so trying to take advantage of it by picking up some German stuff before the final removal van leaves ! , but it's not easy to find anything.
  11. Can see it now Nice find ! I wonder how many companies produced (I don't want to use the word copied ! ) this pattern Who was the original, Blanchard or Mayer Flamery ?
  12. Don't be embarressed, I am also very new. The stuff that Walter, Tor, Bruce etc put up are a great education and inspiration. I really struggle to find German tools, French & UK are relatively easy but German, very difficult Even with my geographic advantage I struggle to find old German tools ! Btw, I dont see any pictures ?
  13. Will be a week or so before I can put up any pictures, out of the country on business I doubt there is anything you won't have seen before though, lots of blanchard, Mayer Flamery knives, plough gauges etc maybe the eyelet setter I have found would be new to you (although not a saddler tool, more for a cobbler)
  14. Can't edit.. yes it's the same as Walters I have a very high reference point to try and reach when I refurbish this !
  15. Great stuff Walter ! You take such good care of these gems I assume you do not receive all the tools in such good condition, care to share a little on how you have refurbished these ? I have some boxes coming from France with some very nice tools (some I have never seen before) that I will need to give some attention to, I want to do them justice
  16. if you get any more for sale, I'd certainly be interested also ! Can never have enough tools
  17. No problem Tor Glad it's useful for you. this one
  18. nice job everyone ! (esp. for a girl ) I've got a growing collection of pony's (mostly very old), will have to post them up, might give people some more ideas
