  1. Thanks guys! Yes I am not pleased with the straps so much, but haven't really thought about it - been on to other things. I really need to check out some basket weave work and get some ideas.
  2. Needed a new m-7 for my P-35, took a chance on basket weave, ok for first time I think!
  3. That is a very interesting design, looks inspired by the "carry all" survival knife sheathes. My first thought is I must have one for my p-35!!!
  4. I am fortunate that the managers and employees at my local tandy are like friends, I never buy much, but when I need something they are the best. With the business pricing everything is reasonable, but few things are of sufficient quality for my purpose. That being said, my leather comes from WIckett and craig, and and most of my tools and supplies come from weaver leather. I find weavers prices are quite good for the quality. Usually when I go to Tandy it is for dye, hardware, etc.
  5. Thanks to everyone for your help and advice! These have gone to auction on ebay, I think this is my best course of action. Now I watch and wait!
  6. I level my edges with a dremel sanding drum, and burnish with the cocobolo. Your work is looking good, I love the CXL on your other thread! If I didn't have a waterbuffalo hide wallet that will never wear out I would be bothering you to make me one! On another note, I checked out the website posted for the burnishers, I just found out I need a bear maul, did you guys see those???
  7. Astounding! I'm not a carver, but seeing this kind of work is pushing me to learn. Thanks for sharing!
  8. This is a great place! Spend time here browsing the forums and be ready to learn - many impressive crafts people here willing to share their knowledge!
  9. For sale is a vintage copy of F.O. Baird's Leather Secrets. It is in perfect original condition with no signs of use or wear, no folds creases marks etc. This is a wonderful piece for your collection. Asking $300.
  10. I have a large lot of these stamps and am considering parting with them could anyone help me with appraising their value?
  11. Thanks fellas, nice to know there are some crafters around:)
  12. I use a black and decker with a knock off press rig, and a set of dremel brand bits and collets, but you can buy dremel brand in both, Make sure your dremel has the threaded end for attaching to the press. I use maine thread company waxed polycord in the smallest size, and very small blunt needles(I have used tapestry needles from the local walmart and stoned the tips in the past, lol) This process works for flat work, I cement my holster halves, sand the edges, do the lay out work, and drill. Then re tool the stich lines with the overstitch wheel and sew. I use as amall of a drill bit as possible that will still allow the needle and thread to pass through with little resistance. You can experiment with different hole/needle sizes to find a comfortable setup. I've done this for years with excellent results. Hope this helps
  13. Just an update, considering the savings I decided to go look at the machine, sewed with it, and took it home. Only having experience with the old singer 29-4s I am very impressed with the stitch quality, ease of operation, simplicty of the machine, etc. Also came with 5 spools of very nice heavy thread(I forget what weight I'd have to check) the roller guide, holster plate, and a dozen bobbins. The machine still looks brand new, and I am pleased with the purchase. It was great to share stories and techniques and tools with another crafter, a great experience indeed. I was concerned about how much time it would take to learn to operate the machine well enough for production, but I expect to put it to work with in a couple days. Thanks for all the advice, and your help with this decision. Cheers! Josh
