  1. Looking at the top disks you can see some action (tension release) as the presser foot is lifted up. I am able to pull the material out. It is not without some tension but acceptable.
  2. Be one with your machine. This is my first machine. I like it. I believe thread size 138 is probably the limit for the bobbin. I have only layed down about 50 lines of thread but have gained a good feel for the machine. The gap between the hook assembly and dog house is just enough for thread size 138 but is a tight squeeze. I have also figured out how to load the bobbin an pull the bobbin thread through to the top. It requires me to thread the bobbin thread under the gap instead of trying to pull it through with a tug. So all is sewing just fine now.
  3. Received a Techies 2700 yesterday, yay. Ron set it up for 138 size thread and 135x17 22 needle. He left a roll of the white thread up top and I sewed it all up with no problems. I changed to black bonded polyester size 138 thread (although my thread seemed almost half the size left in the machine). I threaded and installed bobbin also with same black thread. Worked fine. Now not. When I sew some, put needle at top, raise the foot and pull the work out a nest is attached. I rebobbined and watched the first cycle that should pull up the bobbin thread. See pic, the cycle is almost done and you can see that two pieces of thread will get bound in that small opening between hook assembly and dog holder. So I started over, this time threading the bobbin thread under the dog holder. This time the top thread comes around and only the one thread has to squeeeeeze between hook assembly and dog holder. Seems ok. Now, with cover off so I can watch the action all seems to be ok and sewing looks good. With the cover on, it seems like the looping action of the top thread is now binding on that little gap between hook assembly and dog holder. Maybe the cover is causing the thread to get tweaked enough that it may be twisted an has a hard time getting through that gap to complete the cycle. The video on Techsew website is it at just the wrong angle and does not show the bobbin thread going thru that gap on the left side. Should it? Should it be hard for the thread to get through that gap? Can thread twist with cover on making it hard to get through that gap? Ideas . . . thank you, Robert
  4. Got the Techsew manual. Thanks for the replies.
  5. I read the 227r-2 from an existing post, thank you. Hopefully I can get a manual from Raphael Sewing. I am considering 2700 machine for purchase.
  6. I am looking for a Techsew 2700 manual, thank you.
  7. Congratulations on your purchase. Looking forward to hearing how it works for you.

    Maker's Mark

Excellent theJakeG! I just sent a bunch of "tags" to my bother. He makes pens (http://www.greatsmok...s.com/home.html).
  9. How 'bout applying a resist to the white. You can wipe the stain off the areas where the resist was applied.
  10. Assuming a machine has drop feed, needle feed and alternating presser feet can the terms unison, compound and triple be properly used interchangeably in regards to the feed system?
  11. That Peter Nitz video was pretty cool. I have not seen many other videos from start to finish. Here's one for making boxes: , You also should look at the videos from Arthur Porter. And then of course, we are expecting a video from you when you perfect your process. Here is a video of something I made, sorry not instructional:
  12. Piddler . . . have you figured out how to sew without leaving foot tracks?
  13. It also keeps the peas, carrots an applesauce from messin' up the tank. Nice work, my rubber stock one needs replacing. 2002 FXSTD
  14. You can be an American with a great idea for a product and have it built here or outside the US (Mexico, India, China . . .). It is up to the business owner to ensure the quality they want to sell. The business owner is in charge. There is another thread in one of these forums where the speed reducer's race was not ground properly. This is a failure of manufacturing and quality control (it was a Chinese part). Harley Davidson, an American company, is built with Japanese and Chinese parts with the quality standards they want. Its all about the bucks. If the product can be built cheaper with the targeted quality and people want to buy it . . . . that is $.
  15. How thick in inches is the work in your last picture? How much lift is available for the feet? I wonder, if it can not be adjusted anymore if you could fabricate something to allow more adjustment. I bet Wiz will have an answer.
  16. Have you considered burnishing and/or finishing the edges?
  17. Wow, nice. The detail is exquisite! The edge is very strong looking and the color is great. It the smaller strap natural or did you also tool it?
  18. A true friend indeed. Is that hand or machine stitching?

    Maker's Mark

I ordered two maker's marks from http://lwleathers.com/. $80 total including shipping for the pair. Excellent, I am so impressed. See the two on the right? The bottom one's first "e" looks like an "o". They did not even hesitate to send another for no charge. What they did was thin the letter a little. The long one is 1 3/4", the other is 1 1/2" long. I am very pleased at the detail achieved on leather.
  20. It is a circa 1941 Singer 107 W1 Drop Feed Zig Zag machine. He is willing to trade a couple-o-hundred bucks or so for it. Video:
  21. I learned a new acquaintance has a Singer 107W and is looking to exchange it for a couple-o-hundred bucks. He said it has a 220VAC motor, has a treadle and was used for parachutes. No more details than that. I have not seen it yet but Google showed me there are many Singer 107W models. Does anyone have knowledge about this line of machines? I will post pic and more detail when I see it.
  22. It was nice being able to go to the source. I went to Alberoni the week before. He had many machines to look at.
  23. I visited the Leather Machine Co. Inc. today. They are very busy with trade shows. It was fortunate that Steve Tayrien was there. They had just received a shipment of machines and so the shop was full of crates. Steve showed me around and answered all my questions. The choices for me from Cobra are the class 4 or 18. I need to still ask about the feet. I will be doing work on leather, some veg tan, and do not want to mark the leather with non-smooth feet and feed dogs. Steve said he could provide feet that are smooth. Time to go back to the cave and cogitate some more.
