  1. Thanks, I also really like using blue thread on black dyed leather.
  2. I had these clips made and the are available for purchase. Direct message me here, or rnlleather@gmail.com or rnlleather on instagram for details. You can see these clips on instagram, search for rnlleather.
  3. That is originally a Paul Long clip and they are no longer available. However, I have had them made and have plain steel, black and brass plated available. Go to @rnlleather to see my posting on these clips. You can direct message from instagram or email rnlleather@gmail.com for details. https://www.facebook.com/RNLLeather/
  4. Here are some pictures of one Agilis V2 knife. The blade is just 2.5".
  5. Its been a while since posting any thing. A couple of years ago my brother asked if I could make a sheath for a knife he made. Well I have made a lot of sheaths since then. These pictures show about two years of experience making his most popular knife. It is an EDC with about a 2.5 inch blade that fits in the pocket pretty nicely.
  6. Thanks for the compliments. There is a dangler on it and that is why the mark shows where the handle is.
  7. Thanks for the replies. It was a chemical reaction, not water. I have come to the conclusion that this was caused by sealing with resolene before the sheath was dry. It was loaded up with dye then sealed then sewn closed. Should have let the dye dry well before sealing.
  8. I made this sheath to fit my brother's (mjlknives.com) sambar stag handled bowie knife. To date it was one of my best works. Today I learned the sheath ruined a piece of furniture. It was being displayed and sat for 4 days on the furniture. He noticed it was smelling, sort of gassing off. He picked it up and saw it had reacted badly to the polyurethane finish. There is now a perfect shape of the sheath, even where it was not touching. The sheath was dyed with Fiebings Low VOC (I live in CA and not allowed to use the good stuff) dark brown dye. A coat of Fiebings Resolene was applied. The resolene was cut with water 30%. This is bad, has anyone experienced this sort of thing?
  9. I've been wanting to get this right. I looked at all the videos on LW. For my final exam I put this video together.
  10. Check out the Boss. It is hand operated, will go thru more than your requirement. It is now available through Tandy Leather.
  11. The machine is great. The biggest challenge was designing the pieces to wrap easily around the curves. Next was learning to make the pattern "on" the seat to ensure sew lines intersect the pieces around the curves. The cylinder arm of the 2700 was a dream to use on the curves and on the passenger pad. see it https://youtu.be/Zlcy6aKZfSI
  12. All done. I have decided to use dressing that has oils and beeswax. This will protect from sun and rain. see it https://youtu.be/Zlcy6aKZfSI
  13. Thank you benlilly1. Embossed means the 'gator pattern is pressed in. I was concerned that putting a dressing would soften it and cause the pattern to relax some.
  14. Just completed this seat. Not real alligator, it is embossed cow hide with black upholstery leather between the panels. What should I use for protection? Hard coats like Fiebings Tan Kote and Tandy Super Sheene, Or dressings like Dr Jacksons Neatsfoot Oil Compound or Skidmores Leather Cream. The hard coat stuff does not soak in but results in a hard layer of protection. The other stuff has oils, beeswax and stuff that soak in. What to use....?
  15. Rule one, stiff leather will not bend in two directions so don't try to. Stick to one direction bending. The center section is easy, a strip of alligator the bends only up at the back of the seat. The two pieces on the side of the seat can be put in place to judge what part of the single side of seat curve will be covered. Rule two, seat is not flat so do not draw pattern on flat surface. Put your stiff paper or even rough cut pieces on the seat to cover all curves, tape them down. You will need several pieces to cover the whole seat in a balanced way with nice lines. Then draw pattern or the intersections where sew lines will be. In my case, I pinned every thing. This will ensure curved sections will match up when sewing. Rule three, use the holes made by pins to place the pieces perfectly back to back. I used pins to align then metal clips to hold all in place. Pins and clips are pulled off one at a time during sewing.
  16. The seat has compound curves. The Embossed cow hide will only bend in one direction. Have you guys a good way to make a pattern with nice lines. So that a combination of garment leather and stiff cow hide flow over the seat nicely. There curves going up behind the but and down between the legs. Have made flat paternity and it's a disaster. In the attached picture the difficult area is the front sides where the driver sits. Might just have to forgo alligator in the bottom scalloped section for flexible garment leather.
  17. I received a replacement left toe zipper foot 09May just 6 days after posting the problem. I have not tried it yet, am in the middle of building an alligator (embossed cow hide) motorcycle seat. Awesome response, thanks Ron.
  18. PM did not work, probably user error. I called Ron. First time talking to him very nice guy, said replacement left toe zipper foot is in the mail. Thank you.
  19. The zipper foot I received with my 2700 order does not work. There is no clearance for the feet to pass each other. I have emailed Ron of Techsew a couple of times but no response. Attached photos show zipper foot and regular foot. Both attached to new Techsew 2700. See the zipper feet cannot pass, no clearance. Do you guys have suggestions.
  20. KY23, I took delivery of a Techsew 2700. I paid for residential delivery. The day it was to be delivered the UPS guy called me and said whom ever charged me made that "residential delivery" up. Well, it was UPS that was making excuses. The residential delivery mean taking it off of a large truck and putting it on a smaller truck that can drive on residential streets. UPS said, well we don't have a smaller truck today we will try to get a truck and deliver next week. I told them this was not acceptable. So I met the guy at a shopping center with my El Camino. We unpacked it in the truck and put the separate pieces in my truck . . . no problem but not good business.
  21. Ron, hmm , , , , I wonder, what do you think about installing a pin that is longer? Would this be a viable retrofit?
  22. Thanks for the compliments. The key is first practice on a throw away piece to determine the process. The resulting conclusion . . . draw the lines on the back which has a layer of batting glued to it. For the seams I learned where the foot should be aligned. Then, do them all the same.
  23. First project for new machine. This is a seat back for a sport car.
