It would help if you post pictures of the table/cracks. Minor cracks in plywood may not affect integrity at all, depending on where they are located.

Looks very nice - they will be very pleased to receive these vs a gift card or other off-the-shelf gift!

I think he meant "cupped", as opposed to curved. I have the bone folder also, pointed at one end and curved at the other, but the metal one in the video is cupped so as to fold the flap over while running along the edge. I wonder if it was home made. You could sort of do the same with the bone folder and your fingers. I thought the perforated stiffener paper was unique. You can tell when he tears it off that it was only attached at a few points along the length.
Thant's exactly what I meant Alpha - if you lay the folder flat on a table it will not lay flat because it is cupped at the large end.

It's a bone folder. You can get them out of bone, plastic,or metal. Any leather supplier will have them.
I agree that one end looks like a standard bone folder, but the opposite end is curved - I haven’t seen a bone folder like this before. The bone folder I use is flat all the way.

I just experimented using the tape to glue two pieces of 3-4 oz veg tan and it held very well, except I think it may not work as well on thicker leather. I worry that the leather will burn before the heat gets through the leather to melt the glue. I will probably stick to using it to attac cloth lining to leather - seems to work great for that.

Thanks for the update Bob - sounds like something I want to try. I just started laying out a laptop bag and I think I will try using the Ultrahold tape to hold gussets in place before stitching. Have you used the tape for this purpose?

Buy the 4500 - better to have the extra length and not always need it than find yourself running out of room to turn a large piece while sewing!

Gary,
That is a good tip and something I have done many times! In this case....I was following the outside stitch up on the sewing machine and bent in some...saw it happen....still learning sewing machines....for sure a learning curve.

I have done the same thing on my machine! Seems like I take my eye off the needle for just a second and wham - drifts off!

I bought aluminum bobbins from Bob at Toledo Sewing and I believe they were $4 each. Shipping was reasonable - typical for shipments in the USA. Give Bob a call - his number is listed in his banner ad at the top of the page. You can trust him and won’t have to wait 30 days to receive your order!

That’s a great looking knife and sheath that I would be proud to own.
Only comment is I see the stitching on the outside edge went in a bit on the left side. I have had similar problems on projects so now I cut slightly oversized and trim to the stitch line after I finish stitching for an even edge.
Is the inside lined to support the inlay?

Toledo Sewing has good prices - not sure how many colors they keep in stock. Give them a call...

Welcome! I also began making leather goods for my muzzleloading hobby starting back in the early 70’s.
You will find many interesting and informative topics in this forum and there are always people willing to share their experience and expertise with others.

Welcome Ravi - you will learn much from this site. Look forward to seeing some of your projects!

Nice work! I assume you painted the Celtic designs - am I correct? If yes, what type paint do you use?

They look very nice!

You can use Irfanview to edit photo to smaller size or email the pic to yourself as a smaller image, then you can upload it.

Can’t open link - can you upload the picture instead of a Facebook link?

Really nice job on the tooling and the molding!

Nice woodwork! Looks like you are using a turnbuckle to tighten the jaws on the pony. Is that a bolt in the middle so you have something to hold onto to tighten the pony?
-
That should make a nice stitching pony - did you steam bend the wood?

That stingray inlay looks great. Left belt slot looks awfully close to the stitch line!

It’s made to sit at the top of a gun rack - we have gun racks all around our shotgun courses with cutouts at the top to rest your barrel. I sew a piece of thin lead inside the rear of the leather to weight it down and just slide the rest into the slot so it protects the barrel! When you take the gun out, the rest sits on top of the gun rack until you set the gun back. Here’s a view from the bottom.

Rubber cement will work

Finished a couple of new projects - an eyeglass case for my friend ( W&C Chestnut 8-9oz) and a barrel protector to use on a gun rack when shooting trap and skeet - made of 3-4oz veg tan and 8-9oz W&C .

I bought the tape at Walmart. It was cheap - $2.00 for a 10 yard roll...
