  1. Yep definately the best way but thought it might be quicker for members to have a look around the website to see if it was mentioned anywhere first in case someone wanted to buy it straight away, was also a holiday here yesterday and I kind of forgot that the rest of the world didn't have it (for the queens birthday bah ha ha we don't even celebrate it on the proper day).
  2. Here is the website for Envirotex http://www.eti-usa.com/index.html I couldn't find anywhere where it mentions it is food safe for items to be drunk from, so perhaps someone else might want to take a look as well and see if they can find anything that I may of missed. Cheers, Clair
  3. Now thats a cool design, I really like the colouring of it. Cheers, Clair
  4. I wasn't aware Envirotex was food safe I'd check with the manufacturer first just to make sure before selling stuff to the public, it's used on kitchen counter tops here and used to be sold in Bunnings (hardware store) but they have since changed to a different brand so I can't check. But I definately remember my sister using it as a finish on a wood kitchen counter top and google searches seem to show that it's the same stuff we have here.
  5. Yep that looks better, nice logo Spinner it will work well on anything you need to put it on.
  6. Thanks for the link King's X good film, I definately find it interesting to see how other leatherworkers do things. Cheers, Clair
  7. Terry it's explained here http://www.tonyperottiusa.com/blog/?p=41 mmm I thought vegetable tanning had been around alot longer than fourty years bah ha ha maybe I'm not savvy enough. Clair
  8. Thanks for the link John, definately some beautiful and outstanding workmanship there. Cheers, Clair
  9. Ray there are no kangaroo tanneries in Perth, I wish there was all our skins from government shoots are sent over east for tanning I've used Packer lace but I didn't buy it from them it was excellent quality but I don't use alot. The best place to buy veg tan leather in Perth is http://www.leatherdirect.com.au/ your son will soon find out there aren't alot of suppliers but if he wants to see the leather in person Leather Direct is his best bet. Is he a northy or southy, Leather Direct is in Northy country, boundary is classed as north or south of the swan river at the Narrows bridge. Let me know if you need to find out anything else. Cheers, Clair
  10. I had my issue sorted out with them fairly quickly and they did correct their mistake without any further expence so I think it might come down to who you speak to in regards to returns. So in the end I am fairly happy with their service, Fed Ex on the other hand need a kick up the bum in WA.
  11. Now that is cool Dom you should be mighty proud of that, if my partner had something like that he would probably wear it everywhere.
  12. Thankyou Johanna & Kate, definately missed the forum when it was down.

The only place I've seen one recently is here http://www.ferdco.com/6.php but it's still been there a fair while and I'm not actually sure if it is still available, I also tried to contact the gentleman in ID last year and was told by someone here that he no longer makes them. Cheers, Clair
  14. Yonks is the Australian way for saying in ages or a long time

  15. Does everyone realise this thread is nearly three years old and most thought that it had been swallowed up by the big forum crash awhile back, I certaintly did and was surprised to see it back. Leatheroo has probably found out all the info she wanted to know by now and has moved on. I think everyone just needs to accept although we both speak english, Australia and the US have different cultures and just leave it at that. All us Aussies are worried about at the moment is which idiot is going to be running the country for the next three to four years (ha ha my partner has to vote on his birthday).
  16. Angelus does a couple of pink dyes, saves trying to mix them up they are fairly intense but can be lightened with their neutral, I bought mine from here http://turtlefeathers.net/text/angelus/dye.html Cheers, Clair
  17. Lets just say I'm not particularly happy after putting in a first order with them recently, I made sure I got a quote first on the shipping as I knew as it was going to be alot as the item is heavy but the shipping was $65.00 more than they quoted, they didn't contact me to say the item had shipped even though I was supposed to get a tracking number and I had to ask them for an updated invoice with shipping included as they left that part off. There is also another problem with the item that I won't go into here yet as I haven't decided on how I am going to proceed with that yet but apart from getting a spare part for the item I bought I very much doubt that I will use them again unless their service improves.
  18. I'm about to get my Weaver I hope sometime this week ordered it last week. So I can let you know how it goes once I get it but I do think there are few others here that do have one as well. I was going to get it last year but things cropped up and I thought maybe a decent old one would surface but that wasn't case, the refurbishment people either didn't get back to me even after a few emails, were nearly as expensive as the Weaver or just wouldn't send to me in Australia and I couldn't get hold of the guy in Harrison, I think someone here said that he wasn't making them anymore. You probably won't have some of these problems if your in the US, but like you I was worried about trying to get parts for one of the old ones anyway so I thought the Weaver would be my best bet in the end. If your budget can go over what the Weaver costs there are few more options of a new one, I contacted Cambell-Bosworth and they deal with a company in Italy I think, they still makes new ones but the six inch is the same price as the Weaver and I couldn't go any higher than that and I needed an eight inch I think their eight inch was around $2500 USD. I don't think anyone makes a new 10 inch hand crank though so if your wanting that size motorised is going to be your only option either like Bruce said the Artisan (I may of got one of these but I just don't have the room to store it) or there is a German company that makes a 15 inch but I can't find their website at the moment and I think they were about $3500 USD. Hope this is of some help Cheers, Clair
  19. Welcome Jacko from the other side of the country, you have some really nice things there. Cheers, Clair
  20. It definately looks like nylon to me has that sheen to it, It does look like C-Lon but they come on white spools and the thickest cord is about 277. It could be S-Lon they came on the brown spools but I think they may have the same thread width as C-Lon. If you can't find it exactly C-Lon Bead Cord and the C-Lon Tex 400 works fine for leatherwork I use it all the time when I'm doing a small project that needs colour. Cheers, Clair
  21. Took a bit longer than I hoped due to various things but finally got my Wrangler today I absolutely love it fits my hand perfectly so you are off the hook Kings X. Cheers, Clair
  22. Thankyou for that Kate and also Meg for the original question I was trying to find out the same thing. I've come across these products but they don't specfically say if you can use them on leather or not ( Lascaux UV Protect, Super Seal by Creative Imaginations and Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Coating ). I was going to get one and try it on some scraps, it will probably be the Krylon as I don't think I can get the others where I live. If anyone else wants to give them a try at least one of them should be available at most big art shops. Cheers, Clair
  23. That came out pretty good Daniel well done To any others wanting to try istock make sure you read up on the licence agreements and get the correct one as there are things you can and can't do if you intend to sell items. Cheers, Clair
  24. Thanks for that ShortBBL now I'm all jealous though I would love to have a space like that I'm stuck with the spare room which isn't big enough but is alot warmer than the garage. We probably don't have basements here as the soil is mostly crap in West Oz ie predominantly sandy. Cheers, Clair
  25. Looks good but have to agree with the others I'm tidy but my space looked that clean for all of five minutes. I have to admit this basement thing you guys have in America intrigues me I've never seen a house in West OZ that has one what's it actually for, is it where the hot water system etc is kept ours gets shoved on the outside of the house.
