  1. Hi Ann, No I haven't used the Copic airbrush system looks interesting though especially the ease of changing colours just by putting in a new marker. I don't do alot of spray work but when I do I use an Aztec A7778 airbrush and thats fairly easy to clean with the cleaning station add on. I think there might be adapters for it to use with other makes of airbrushes which might be an option. Cheers, Clair
  2. I don't really like brushes either due to them feeling unbalanced in my hand (longtime use of using markers for illustration work) and I found a way recently that I'm happy with for doing detail work I get empty Copic Sketch Markers and fill them with leather dye I use Angelus but any other alcohol based dye should work. The sketch markers have a brush type tip, are refillable and the tips are replaceable as well once it has worn down. You can use the normal coloured Copics on leather as well they are alcohol based but they are less colour fast than leather dye which is why I get the empty ones and fill them myself. If you are interested get a coloured one first to see if you like the tip most decent art supply places should carry them. The cheapest place to get the empty ones is online from America, Copic do some other markers as well but I don't think they are refillable and the sketch is the only one that has the brush type tip. The sketch markers are also dual tipped and the other end is good for doing edges. Hope this is of some help Cheers, Clair
  3. Thanks Prince
  4. Wow Prince that is an outstanding piece of work, just wondering though is the white painted or is it pigmented veg tan leather ?. I will be working on overly white leather project soon and are not sure on which way to go with it. Cheers Clair
  5. You will get an approximate shipping cost in the checkout part, then when they put your order together you will get an email for the actual shipping cost. I pay the additional by Pay Pal but I think they do other ways as well it's just easier for me to pay by Pay Pal because of the time difference. For me in Australia the shipping difference is usually from $5 - $20.00 and delivery takes about two weeks. Cheers, Clair
  6. That is sad I too thought he was getting back on track after the problems he had mentioned, RIP Drac I hope you have found peace. My thoughts go out to his friends and family.
  7. RonaldSe there was an article in the Rawhide Gazette that covered Shibouri (japanese tie dye) you can find it here http://www.pslac.org/table_index_rawhide.htm November 2004 pdf Cheers, Clair
  8. No worries your welcome , Bevan not sure about that you must be hard up if you are looking at leather dye, would give you colourful insides though Ha Ha ! Roo I quite like some of the Birdsall dyes as well I actually prefer their red & burgandy over the Angelus ones. Cheers, Clair
  9. Here is a colour chart to help the Aussies with Birdsall leather dye, semi alcohol based not as strong smelling as Angelus. As far as I'm aware this dye can't be sent overseas they would only send it to me by truck. Cheers, Clair
  10. Thankyou Donna & Spinner I ended up going with the mallets one though that is if my order ever gets posted from another supplier. I had quite a few things to order and was able to get everything at one place but I will definately be looking at them again for another project. Cheers, Clair
  11. I think I will be changing mine to more stable containers as well thankfully I haven't spilled any completely yet but did manage to flick some dye around after shaking a bottle up and realising that the bottle threads don't match the cap properly (at least it was already on a pair of jeans I'd already spilled wood stain on). Also have found with mine not all the boxes have the cut out even though it's marked for it. Clair
  12. Your welcome roo, I will probably be doing a chart for Birdsall dyes as well in the next couple of days, I'd done one before but this side is alot lighter than the last one I bought. Cheers, Clair
  13. Jazznow you might want to contact these people http://www.leathercourses.co.uk/ I haven't done any courses with them but I have read Valeries book which is very good. Most courses do seem to be fairly short but you never know they might be able to do an extended one or possibly know someone who does, hope this might be of some help. Cheers, Clair
  14. I made this colour chart for Angelus dyes and thought some others might find it useful, they are full strength applied by a brush with no finish. First chip is the natural leather I used, I've colour matched as close as possible to my screens but yours might still look different compared to the colour chips found elsewhere. Yes they are all on the dark side you really do need to reduce them to get nice shades, orange and tan are very similiar and there isn't much difference in the light blue and blue. Cheers, Clair
  15. Mike if you go here http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,228.0.html you will see many examples of people using walnut, pecan and coffee dyes. I've spent quite a bit of time looking at the pages and there is definately some amazing looking stuff done with these types of dyes. Cheers, Clair
  16. Wow very nice Panther and congrats on the win and yes small aussie females tend to be like that hee hee.
  17. Thanks Jenna, you've obviously found a supplier who will my main one won't but I'm not in urgent need at the moment so haven't worried about it, I've been happy with the browns from Birdsall, Angelus also have to be ordered but they do nice browns as well. I'll try to get some photos of them soon for you. I don't need anything at the moment but could you look at the Hermann Oak and Wickett and Craig tooling leather for me and tell me what it's like as the Birdsall website doesn't mention what grade it is. Thankyou, Clair
  18. Hi Jenna just wondering where do you buy you Fiebings dye in Australia as I've never been able to find it, if you are planning on buying it from overseas most won't send it here as it's alcohol based. I can help you with Angelus and Birdsalls dye if that is the way you were going. If you have got a supplier of Fiebings dye here though I would love to know as although I've got more than enough dye at the moment I'm always on the look out for new colours Thanks, Clair
  19. Sorry but this book still has an active copyright I really don't think you should be posting this sort of stuff here, Vandy the book is available legally at these places http://www.ramsskullpress.com/index.html , http://www.qbd.com.au/ and http://greenhalgh.cart.net.au/cat/0.html It also pops up quite a bit on ebay in Australia. Cheers, Clair
  20. Cool thanks for that Ryan in the original article rtp41 posted they put RP30HT instead of EP30HT and I didn't realise at the time so couldn't find it by searching I found the other one by going through the PDF guides but this one definately looks like it's the the one to use for the increased temp range. Cheers, Clair
  21. Just wondering has anyone used Ohio Travel Bags screw in Grommets http://www.ohiotravelbag.com/FlipBook/hardware%20catalog%20p210/index.html (page 11 of catalogue if link doesn't work). I don't use alot of eyelets and grommets so don't want to invest in a press just yet and I hate doing them with the mallet anvils. So I was hoping someone might of used the screw ins and can tell me what they are like, it's going on a 5.5oz wallet back to attach a wallet chain. Thankyou for any help Cheers, Clair
  22. Wow that's great Kevin the colours on this one really make it pop, not sure if you have heard of it or not but heres a link to a place I thought you might be interested in http://www.spoonflower.com Cheers, Clair
  23. Thanks for that rtp41 here is the company website for them http://www.masterbond.com and the page for the food safe stuff I was able to find http://www.masterbond.com/tds/ep21lv.html Cheers, Clair
  24. Yes I dispise them, I used to use them as tie downs for stop motion puppets quicker than having to drill holes in the floor for when the puppet had to walk across the floor but I always used to get my fingers pinched by the darn things.
  25. That looks great Caroline, the bronze sets it off really well. Cheers, Clair
