  1. newfiebackflip you might want to check out these two threads http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19050&hl=tattooing&st=0 and http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19531&hl=tattooing&st=0. The first one contains a few links for other artists that have tattooed leather and the second one is from a member here though I don't think he has been on the board for awhile. There may be some other posts around but from what I can remember these are the main ones, I started the first one and I'm still quite interested in it so I would love to see you belt photo with ink. Cheers, Clair
  2. My thoughts are with my East Coast friends it's hard to comprehend that much water. The middle of the West coast is dry as a bone.

  5. Sorry but this is a myth, derivative works are still bound by copyright and it is up to the original artist to determine whether they feel their copyright has been infringed or not there is no so called percentage when it comes to derivative works. The 10% comes from being able to copy books and articles for educational purposes and some artists interpereted it the wrong way thinking that they only had to change something 10%. When it comes to selling something using other peoples work it's best to talk to a lawyer that specialises in copyright or if you can't afford that go to your state or countries artist organization they often have free advice in the form of pamplets or online pdf's that deal with copyright. 6. I know you are exited about this possible contact but be wary of doing anything free and like dirtclod said you don't need a fancy camera to take product photos for wallets, a light box (plans can be found in the photography forum here for a cheap but effective one) a tripod and a book on digital photography or you cameras manual will be suffecient. Take a look at this leatherworkers gallery www.xianleather.com they are product photos and weren't taken with a high end DSLR, although it's in focus the one you provided is not one I'd consider using for a product shot on a website. Why, the eye should be drawn to the product that you are trying to sell and with this one it doesn't the photographer was obviously trying to go for an industrial look. If it was me I would of taken it so the seat was more in the middle and angled up got rid of the pallet wood and nails sticking out (I would be annoyed if I found out I was spending alot on a seat only to find out they were taking photos of it with crap from the back of the factory because this is what it looks like).I would of also had the background in black and white, the use of props can be good for product photos but you don't want them to overpower the thing you are trying to sell. The dye colour is always a little bit lighter in the bends if you brush or dauber it on it can look better if you dip dye but I've never done it with red so I'm not sure how it would go with that.
  7. Merry Christmas everyone, we got the darn hot day off to a relos with a pool for the rest of Chrissie

  8. That is really nice Roo you have definately ramped it up on your last couple of seats and it's cool that some Aussie bikers seem to be stepping out of the black seat comfort zone. Hopefully it will happen here in Wait Awhile you'll get it eventually, hope you have a great Christmas. Cheers, Clair
  9. Sorry Ellen, I just saw this your very welcome I'm still using it when I have some celtic themed stuff to do. Cheers, Clair
  10. Rain here as well, it's supposed to be summer. What will we get for Christmas day rain or darn hot weather there is no in between.

  11. They are the same ones Hidecrafter sells if you've got the money look at the custom makers only the small one of mine leaves a nice impression, I plan on upgrading when I can spare some cash. Clair
  12. I've used them and would buy from them again I ordered the red round punches they have and I've been very happy with them, the shipping to Australia was also pretty quick. Cheers, Clair
  13. Like TwinOaks said go with an airbrush those HVLP Sprayers are designed for paint not dye, an airbrush is also easier to use than the Preval sprayer. Cheers, Clair
  14. Yep I agree as well Paul and Rosa were wonderful to deal with I'm hoping to get another holder in the new year so I don't have to swap blades out all the time. Clair
  15. Ken I think it's because the leather is harder and the needles can get blunt quite quick and get snagged in the leather. I'm still trying to find out what they seal the leather with so it doesn't stain as you wipe the excess ink away, Alex's and the original Polka site I mentioned are the cleanest I've seen. I've also came across someone who has tattooed rawhide (can't remember the link for that one) but that was done wet so the excess ink wiped away easier. I'm interested in it for the possible longer term fade resistance it offers though it will probably remain an interest for the short term as I don't have the room for anymore equipment. Cheers, Clair
  16. It's always been soft drink in Western Australia and cordial is the syrup mixed with water or in the case of my young niece drunk straight if she can get away with it (talk about a sugar high). Pop isn't used here either, soda is used for soda water which some older folk drink though I reckon it tastes like fizzy vinegar and scotch is only mixed with coke. Clair
  17. I'm still interested in this and came across this artist recently http://electricsolos.com/home.html and thought I'd post it up as some others seemed interested in it as well. Alex seems to have figured out the process quite well. Cheers, Clair
  18. Thankyou Marlon & Roo, I thought that might be a possibility he's away at the moment and I don't have a Facebook account so didn't think of that as an extra contact point. Cheers, Clair
  19. Thanks Tina Cheers, Clair
  20. I was just wondering has anyone else had trouble in trying to contact Peter Main, I've emailed him a few times through his website over the last few months but he hasn't got back to me. I wanted to order a couple of his books and to see if he still was selling his modelling tool. The emails seem to be going through alright on my end, so perhaps he has a full mailbox or has been away alot. I was going to try and contact him through the board but I'm not sure if he visits that often. One of the books I believe I can get elsewhere but the coloring one and the modelling tool seem to be available only directly from Peter. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thankyou, Clair
  21. That looks great Roo, I suppose you can take some comfort in at least he didn't want it black but I agree the pale antique looks really nice. Cheers, Clair

Thanks for the link Kate looks like they have their own shop now as I remember seeing them on Ebay, I have been eyeing off some of the books they sell as some seem to have been published recently. Cheers, Clair
  23. Hi again Ray, not the place I was thinking of but from what I remember it seems to be the same http://www.ronliskey.com/content/making-hide-glue and a brief explanation of making rabbit skin glue http://wiki.budgardr.org/villagers/oksana/recipe_for_making_rabbit_skin_glue There also a few videos on youtube for making hide glue. Hope this helps a bit Cheers, Clair
  24. Hi Ray, hide glue is still used by alot of traditional woodworkers those who do french polishing and I know I've come across a forum where it was mentioned how it was made I think it may of been one of the Australian woodwork forums. rdb posted the link which covers most of the commercial hide glues I've seen, I can get the Titebond stuff in Australia so I would think the wood work shops in the UK would stock it as well. Cheers, Clair
  25. Spiders don't bother me apart from our darn red backs which get into out letterbox all the time we don't usually get them until January but they are out early this year squished a big fat one the other day. Snakes on the other give me the heeby jeebys especially the big fat ones and I hate looking at the skins in the leather supply catalogues. Not likely to see one of those where I live but if I did I reckon I'd be up for the standing high jump record because I'd be on my 6'5 partners shoulders.
