  1. Looks great... I was at Springfield leather earlier this week and looked at the stingray, but decided I'll wait a little longer before I tackle that one!
  2. I'd be proud to put that on my bike! Looks great...
  3. Thank you Bikermutt. Not sure if a lot of folks do any work with "reclaimed" leather, but my wife and I craft quite a bit with reclaimed items - I do a lot of woodturning with woods recovered due to storm or ice damage... a lot of the blacksmithing I do is with material from a local salvage yard. Knives are the exception... need to know for sure what I'm using in them. Thought I would apply the same thinking to leather and so far, it's been interesting. Here are a couple of pictures of the leather recovered from three coats I found at a flea market for $5 - that was for all three.
  4. Very cool, got a theme going with Speedy and now Quick Draw. As I'm still learning, I'll leave build comments to the gurus but I'm curious if the light color "halo" around McGraw was on purpose?
  5. Looks good for your prototype. The only time I ever carried a chain drive wallet was when I drove a beer truck- lol. Could only be paid in cash and I delivered in some "questionable" areas, so didn't want my wallet to run off
  6. Those are beautiful. Nice design idea using the deer antler for the hooks, use what ya got :). While like you, I wouldn't condone harvesting an elephant for its hide, if it has been done "legally", then I would use it if available - it is some beautiful leather.
  7. Wow! Looks great... figuring out loops, for pens and pencils in my case, is definitely a challenge. My current journey in leather working is progressing the same way. Made a knife, now I need a sheath, daughter shows me a picture of a bag and I have to make that. Next was journal covers and wallets, etc, etc... it sure is fun though
  8. Evenin all... been lurkng for a while and admiring all the skills and talent here. Thought I'd post a few things I finished up today. I'm a newb - did a little tooling and kit projects some time back but nothing really useful. Recently started back up and acquired a nice old Singer industrial... and here are my attempts at using it. The black/gray journal cover is from reclaimed leather (some old purses)... the wallet is from an old leather coat and the change purse/business card holder is also from reclaimed. The brown journal cover and the messenger bag is from a 4.5oz side from Tandy.
  9. When my wife makes a mistake similar to this when making a quilt top, it is referred to as a "humility block"... just consider it a "humility cut" and carry on... reminds us that we're not perfect
