  1. Hello everyone, This is a strap I made for myself, a little while ago, when my original one broke. Italian veg exterior. lined with natural veg. 9 spi with 632 lin cable Next order of business is a better watch Thanks for looking. Chris
  2. This is a great description and how I've always done it. It gives me decent results. This is also key advise.
  3. lilways, this particular bag is just the leather folded over onto itself. How you place the piping on the bag and where you stitch in relation to it is what gives the illusion of it being cylindrical (as if tube or wire are inside). Personally I don't like anything synthetic (tube, wire, polyester etc) inside my work. I just feel synthetics won't age the way the natural materials do; My own preference.
  4. Small update, Bottom is sewn on the bag with piping. Next will be lining the interior (with phone and zippered pockets) and installation of grommets for the "drawstring" Chris Thanks Monica! Fingers crossed lol
  5. I have about 1-1/4 folded over and skived down at the end to lay flat. yes i will be finishing the top edge but I still have to add a strip around the inside. Both exposed edges will be burnished and edge painted etc.
  6. Hello everyone, My next project is a ladies bucket bag as requested by my better half. The bag will be hand sewn with 632 Fil au chinois lin cable in black Black Horween Essex, 4oz Brass hardware Lined Just got started last night, but personally I like seeing the progression of people's projects, so here is mine. Thanks for looking Chris
  7. Looks fantastic. I love seeing fine leatherwork in this forum. I look forward to your updates
  8. Thanks alamp1360, I agree that a duffel of this size completely hand sew was a bit ambitious. Especially the sections that have two rows of stitching; it was a bit mind numbing at times. I didn't log my hours but i imagine it's over 15 from first cut to final stitch. I did not add anything to the flesh side. I'm not sure how to do that correctly and did not want to "practice" on this particular bag. The leather is 5oz and is quite dense feeling. I also did not add anything to the bottom internally/between the bag and the lining. However if i find it does require something i will add an insert. The design is my own. However if i ever make another i will change a few things . Thanks Monica. I was checking out your blog the other day. Your stuff is lovely. I love the violin bag. Thank you.
  9. Hello everyone, So i guess this bag is pretty much complete. Handles are on, zipper installed as well as the lining. I still need to feed it with a bit of conditioner and brig up the luster with a horse hair brush. I may source some brass "feet" for the bottom of the bag before i begin to use it daily.. And the interior. Went with an ecru canvas lining as I plan to really use this bag. I also didn't want to use a synthetic fiber. Other linings or materials did not seem up to the task. Thanks for looking. Chris
  10. I tidied up before the pic, it doesn't always look like that
  11. No rivets on this bag as of yet. If I built it correctly there should be no unnecessary stress on the bag components that will require the use of rivets.
  12. Just an update, Added the handles to the bag. Also worked on the zipper patch/welt/whatever. Final assembly will be next with, possibly, a zippered interior pocket... Thanks for looking Chris
  13. Welcome! Fellow Ontario guy, here, too!
  14. Ya, seemed like a good idea at the time lol Thanks for the kinds words
  15. Joel, that's very flattering. Thank you very much Monica. Thank you very much. I hope it turns out well.
