  1. It's what maverick called "Whiskey Jack". Similar to Horween's first quality Cognac brown. Good question, this is my first lined bag so I'll let you know what I do... Once I do it 😜
  2. Thanks! I actually don't. I told myself to take one and forgot...got too excited to turn it rightside out, once i was done stitching.
  3. Hello Everyone, This is the first time ( i think) posting any of my work on the forum, though i have been lurking for a few years. Hand sewn using linen thread with a 9 tpi iron (8 spi i guess) with a "saddle stitch" technique. Handles, lining, and zipper next. Thanks for looking
  4. malchik! This is some fantastic work. Very tidy and well-thought-out. Hermes beware!
  5. Thanks Bill! I enjoyed it a lot. The hardest part is holding the case while you sew. In some spots my head had to be upside down to get the right angle of attack hah!
  6. Thanks ! No pattern. A sketch on a napkin, knife and a ruler. I like the design process a lot so I try to not use patterns. The inside is unlined. Just two vacant compartments; nothing to really show.
  7. Yah it's veg tanned with a waxy top dressing, a lot like english bridle, if i didn't know better. It has a bit of pull-up too.
  8. You're exactly right, it does look like brass in the first pic. Thank you very much Chris.

    Simple Handle

Nice stuff! What oz is they handle made of?
  10. Thanks ramrod. In person both pieces of hardware have polished silver finish. I'm not sure what the base metal is... The case size is roughly 16.5''x12''x4.5'' Thank you! Wish i could say the handle hardware was from small Parisian shop... however it's a Tandy product!
  11. Hello All First time posting my work on here. First try at a gusseted brief, saddle stitched. Made with tandy "Meza" double shoulder leather. This stuff is not too bad to work with. Lots of structure when used right but does not feel stiff. I wanted to use this for my first brief as it is 1/3 the cost of W&C bridle. Being my first case, there a many things i'll do different next time. Keeping my awl straight when pushing through two layers of 7 oz leather, making cleaner stops and starts when i run out of thread and adding a lining with some pockets will be all rectified on the next case. Thanks
  12. Wonderful case. Looks fantastic. I'd be proud to rock that.

    Top Frame Suppliers

Thats great thank you barehand. Are there any in north america?
  14. Hello All Can anyone share a supplier who offers LARGE (around 17'') top frames for bags. there are many suppliers who offer purse frames, but i looking for much larger to be used in a "Doctor" style bag. Thanks for any help Chris eg.
  15. Fantastic analogy . it takes both technique and finesse to achieve a clean stitch as it does with a brunoise
  16. To be honest i only use Fil Au Chinois. I refuse to drink the Tiger Thread Kool-aid that's being served up lately. Tiger thread (and other poly/nylon threads) tends to hide a lot of technique related mistakes. Like others have said in other threads consistency is KEY! How you hold the awl, how far you push it into the leather, the angle you push it through and even if being centered in your pricked hole is important and must be the same every time. if any of these things change it will for sure create an uneven stitch and look funky. i use 432 with 9spi iron and it works and looks good to me when working on bags and cases. 435 might be a little thick for a watch strap, however. It's all relative to the leather thickness too. you wouldn't use 632/832 on a 8oz bridle leather brief case. so for a thin 3oz watch strap you may want to look into 632. My $0.02
  17. It takes and equally kind and selfless person to thank someone for their kindness. great post JREESER1
  18. I've not. To be honest, Mr.LTC, I have not put much thought into it; I was simply curious if there were other retailers in the US.
  19. Ok woa, Gents, i never said i had a problem with Sean or fineleatherworking.com. I've spent over $800 with him in the past year. I'm simply looking for options when it comes to thread color and sizes available. For example i'm looking for Ecru in size 432 OR 532; not available. Or a thread in some sort of tan color; not available. I'm loyal but it's nice to have options if he does not carry something.
  20. Bump Are there any other retailers in the US that sell Lin Cable (full spools, not lengths from ETSY) other that Fine Leather Working?
