Denny Sorry it took so long but I had trouble finding it. I'm not sure if this is what your after or not. I think this is pretty old and it obviously needs new wool. Mike

I'm not really showing off. But this is what I've been up to lately and I've remembered to take some pictures. A lot of guys use these to carry their radios in. This one just has the department on the front. But I put names on the back and radio numbers on them to. The strap is 12+ Wicket and Craig the holder is 6oz. Tandy leather. The holder has a 3/4" steel bar sewn between the leather. It also has snaps in the back so you can wear on a belt. Be warned the pictures aren't the best. I haven't been braiding much lately because I've been making alot of these. They help pay the bills so what the heck!! Mike

I would find a old Osborne model 84 or Chase splitter. They would split your tooling leather good. Make sure your blade is good and sharp. I don't think any pull thru splitter will work very well on any leather that's soft. Mike

Arno Nicely done. I like the contrast between the leather and rawhide. Mike

Here's how I do mine. Say I have a 1" strap that's 2foot long and I want to taper it down to 3/4" six inchs from the end. I take a pair of dividers and set them at 1/8" and then lightly mark my strap on both sides from the six inch mark on down to the end of the strap. I will then take a English end punch ( which ever size works best) and place the point on the edge of my strap at the 6" mark and the curve of the punch on my scribed line. I will wack this with a maul I then take my round knife and finish the long straight cut. This gives a nice curve at the transition and the round knife will make a nice straight cut. I'm not saying this the best or only way but it works great for me. Best of luck, Mike

I have three knives a old Osborne with a star on it, a rose, and a Gomph. My favorite is the Osborne it just seems to hold a edge better for me. I think I paid 30 bucks for the Osborne and 25 for the rose. The Rose needed a new handle on it which was no big deal. I got the Osborne and Rose off of fleabay. And a fella I know gave me the Gomph he's a junk man and knew I did some leather work so he give it to me. So I guess the point I'm trying to make is ya can get a good knife bought right if ya watch the fleabay and have some patience. Best of luck, Mike
