  1. Well I just went down and checked on it. Water is hotter than hell again and that damn lights blinking twice. The heck with it I'm calling a plumber tomorrow. Probably wind up being something I done trying to fix it in the first place. When will I learn I guess such is life. Mike
  2. Timd After your and Crystals reply's the more I thought of it the more I figured what did I have to lose but some time and forty bucks. Still cheaper than a plumber. So I went ahead and drained the tank and pulled the elements. They had deposits built up all over them and in a couple of spots the deposits were solid from one side to the other. And this is rural water not well water!! The bottom element had a couple of spots that were burned through. The burnt through spots were right next to and under the heaviest deposits. The elements I pulled out were striaght but the only ones Lowes had were doubled over. So I went ahead and put those in they were rated the same 5500 watts and 240 volts. So after I get the tank filled back up with water and bled all the air out I turn the power back on. Well it aint kicking the breaker now but after ten min. the self diagnostics starts blinking once. Which according to the book that means there aint enough water in the tank(BULLSH*T) I know I bleed all the air out. So I reset the damn thing every ten min. about three times just so I could take a shower for work tomorrow. Well it's stayed on so far(1.5 hrs.) I'll have to see if it's still on in the morning. If it aint I reckon I'll break down and call a plumber but I feel I gave it a honest go. I'll have to update ya on my water heater saga in a week or so. Thanks for the help y'all Mike

Bevan Very nice work!! Thanks for sharing! Mike
  4. Crystal I thought of that but was told either they work or they don't. But Thanks for trying Mike
  5. I have a electric water heater and it's giving me fits!! It's a whirlpool 50 gallon tank. The water gets hotter than hell and then shuts the elements off. So i called Whirlpool and wouldn't ya know it I can't understand a damn thing they say. Apparently there public service is located in India. So first they had me replace the heat sensors because the little light was blinking twice. So I called back and they said it must be the computer board so they shipped me one of those. While I was waiting on that I would just reset the heater to get some hot water. It finally started kicking the breaker. So I get the new board and install it and guess what it's doing the same damn thing. And of course I can't call them till Monday. I'm almost to the point of calling a plumber but I can't do that till Monday either. So any ideas on whats going on. I will never buy a whirlpool again. This has been going on for two weeks!!! Thanks for any help, Mike
  6. I really can't see the headstall that well. From what I can make out it looks like a round braid with a bunch of pineapple knots. I will try and google buckaroo gear when I get some time. Maybe I will be able to see a better picture. Or maybe someone else has some ideas. Mike
  7. When I first started braiding I used pre cut roo from tandy (I still will sometimes) I didn't bother beveling because I didn't have a way to bevel. And plus I was just trying to learn to braid and that was enough. I found that after I was finished braiding the piece and rolled it real well it looked pretty good. I just use saddle soap to grease my strings with when I'm braiding. With all that being said I think once ya get the basics of braiding down. You need to either make or buy a beveler. You will see a big difference in the finished project. When strings are beveled and the finished piece is rolled it's night and day. Best wishes, Mike
  8. Sorry I have no idea!! I'm not even sure what it looks like. Do ya have a picture of a example. Would be interested in seeing when your done. Mike
  9. Kate a big thank you to you and Jo and everybody behind the scenes for all that y'all have done and continue to do to make this site great. Take care, Mike
  10. I was wondering if anyone has or has had this brand of skiver. Is it a good skiver and what are they worth in good condition. Thanks, Mike
  11. nice work thanks for sharing. You've come a long way baby!!!!! Keep at it Mike
  12. George Go to the saddle and tack cat. When ya get there go to the restoration and repair subform and type in barrel saddle repair in the search thingy. There are a few topics on rebraiding one. You'll have to go to the 3rd or 4th page. Someone had step by step instructions from a old magazine they were willing to mail out. If ya cant find them let me know. Mike
  13. I've never seen a cow with a ball sack!!!!LOL Kinda of reminds of the movie kingpin when Woody milked the bull Mike
  14. As in life if that's all ya got to work with then that's all ya got to work with. When braiding long stuff like reins I always like to take my finished length and double the length of my strands. Like Rob said it should be enough but the thickness of your strings and your braiding style will make a difference. Also it will take longer strands to achieve the same length if ya use a core. Nothing to do but braid it and find out. If nothing else it will be good practice. Have fun, Mike
  15. ChaChi Nice looking work. I've been wanting to build a pair. So maybe seeing yours will get my butt in gear. Mike
  16. I've never tried it. It will be interesting to hear how it turns out. Mike
  17. Take and put the finished braided piece between to pieces of hard wood. Take and push the top board back and forth while putting a little pressure on the board. This should even your work out. You can also put it on the floor(as long as it's not carpet) and use your foot. Mike
  18. The best leather is going to be along the back. I've always straight edged the back and cut the reins as long as I could. Usually 7 to 8 feet in length If a side isn't split by the tannery then the neck area will be the thickest. Which I like for the tail end of split reins for the weight. I've put snaps on them before and instead of the conway buckle I punched holes and used a piece of leather to secure it with. The buttons covering the sinew would look nice. I dont know if folks spiral cut sides I never have but that dont mean others dont and have it work for them. There are 9 foot sides out there but you my have to wait awhile for one. Best of luck, Mike
  19. entiendo WOW thats one long necked hoss!! By loop rein I assume(I know ass out of u and me) ya mean a roping rein. I like to use harness 15oz. or heavier. I will then split it down to a uniform thickness. If your using conway buckles ya might run into a problem with getting the rein back thru the buckle. I'm not sure of the oz.the rein needs to be to fit back thru the conway buckle. If I need to I just split it down till it fits. When I order from wicket and craig I tell them the length I need and their good about not shipping until they get a hide I can get a couple of long cuts out of. Although to get a nine footer ya may be waiting awhile. The other thing about ordering 15 plus oz. is ya can always split it down if ya need to. But if ya need that weight for say split reins ya have it. I always try and use the back for reins and the belly for headstalls and such. As far as being easy to cut it just depends on the tools ya have. I use a good ole walnut inlaid handled osborne drawgauge alot of folks get by with the wood handle drawgauges and some use a plowgauge. I hop this helped some what if not just ignore it. LOL Just be sure whatever ya use is dang sharp. Best of luck. Mike
  20. , on second thought just chunk that braid shit and get some harness leather. Now thats funny!!!!! I made a pair for my daughter shes 10. I used some leather belting that was 3/16th in dia. I braided it with 12 strands. I dont remember the width of the strings off of the top of my head but they were small and pretty thin. So they wouldn't hold up very well with a lot of hard using. But she just uses them at fun shows. And the dia. of the finished rein (3/8) fits her hand good. Mike
  21. Bevan I'm sorry some how I missed this topic. I know it sucks to ask for help and not receive an answer. For that I do apologize. I'm glad ya got it figured out tho and as ya found out sometimes it's best to put the book down and just really look at the knot and see how it progress. Next time ya also might post this in the braiding section. I'm not sure about others but I generally check that section a couple of times a day and will only go thru the rest of the forum if time permits. Good Luck and happy braiding!! Mike
