  1. Troy Nice looking knot that's alot of bights. The v's all look nice and straight my only thought is how loose the bights look. Are ya going to go back and re tighten the knot to tighten the bights up. Just wondering Thanks for sharing Mike
  2. I'm against the abuse of any animal. So if ya want to eat a cow, dog, cat or god forbid a horse I don't care as long as it is put down in a humane way and not mistreated. What gives me or anyone else for that matter the right to tell someone what kind of animal they can and can't eat. It makes me laugh that it's okay to eat pig, chickens, goats, cows, and all kinds of seafood but mention eating a horse and people have kittens. I think there's a whole bunch of folks that need to get off of their soap boxes and quit putting ole trigger up on a pedestal. Because like it or not he is a animal. And by the way I do have horse's and I've had them my whole life. And I'm right fond of them but if it comes down to it their getting ate medium rare!! Mike

    making a whip

Paul I haven't had time to download it yet as my computer can be slow. But I do appricate it when someone takes the time and effort to put something like that together. So I'm looking forward to seeing it when the wireless thing is working better. Mike
  7. Thanks David I'll be sure to mention that to the wife. And the best of luck on your next kid. Mike

  9. Well I just got the news the wife is expecting!! This will be #4 and I'm tickled to death. Our oldest is 10 and the youngest is 3. So with the great news of a new baby comes the sad news of me having to go see the Doc. and get cut. But I guess were getting long in the tooth (38,36) to be having more kids. Shes due in Feb. 0f next year. I just had to share!! Mike

  13. more pics The last one I promise Sorry for the big pics. But the wife isn't home to resize them for me. Mike
  14. TK I didn't look at the links so if this has been covered just ignore it. I think this is one of the knots Bruce was talking about. Here goes first tape the rope back a good 6 to 8 inches. Next untwist the rope to the tape. Then grab a strand and wrap it around the rope and run it back thru its self. Then grab the next strand above the one you just tied and wrap it around the rope and thru its self. And do the same with the third strand. Then you will grab one it doesn't matter which one and pull it snug. And then pull the other two snug one at a time. Once you have them all snug and laying right ya can then pull the fire out of them one at a time to really tighten them down. It works really good to use a rein rounder and a pair of lasting pliers(I think thats what their called) to get them really tight. I just hand tightened the one in the picture. This knot will not come untied once tightened. I hope this helps and I apologize for the rough tut. as I am not to good at explaining things. Mike Here's the first pic.

    Some new bling

Rob As always very nice gear!! I'm also very envious of your trip and learning experience. Keep up the great work. Mike
  16. If ya want your braid to look smoother ya need to bevel your strings on the flesh side. And then roll the finished braid work between two boards with a little pressure. Mike

Mike Not a bad looking quirt at all. IMO I think it would look better with one long knot at the top. And also one long knot at the bottom with maybe some smaller knots spaced along the body. Over all a nice little piece. The main thing is your braiding and improving. Thanks for sharing !!! Mike

Mike The only thing about spring and the great weather is I don't have time for any braiding. Right now I have a couple of projects in the works. But haven't touched them in a couple of weeks. I have a cow Buffalo hide stretched and dried and ready to be cut up. I have a buddie that has three horses for me to put down and skin out for some rawhide. And the list goes on. But I need to catch up on everything else around the place and it's almost haying time. It makes me want to sit on the porch and drink! So I can't wait to see your quirt because as you said it's been kind of dead. Happy braiding!! Mike
  19. Hilly I reckon each to their own. I'm sorry you find it offensive but to call people idiots. Why because you don't agree with their culture and what they find acceptable. It was pretty obvious what going on from the get go so if it bothers that much you should of closed it. I thought it was a amazing dance myself. Thanks Art for posting it. Mike
  20. use a spade bit. If the leather is a 1/2" wide use a 1/2" bit if it's 5/8" wide use a 5/8" bit and so on. Some have used wood chisels whatever works for you. Mike
  21. Hilly Here is Bill Confers #(806)364-6583 Mike
