  1. Beautiful work as always. I only wish ya would post more pictures of your work. Thanks for sharing! Mike
  2. Nice looking work!! Thanks for sharing! Mike
  3. Pascal Nothing to forgive. You posted in the introduction ya probaly should of put this question in the braiding section or in the how do I do it section. Dont worry you will get the hang of this puter stuff. As to your question I like to roll my work to finish it. I find that if I pull the piece through a rein rounder it doesn't look as good. Mike
  4. Welcome to a great site. I know what ya mean about having time!! If ya have any questions ask away and some will answer. As ya can probably tell pictures are always welcomed. Mike
  5. Brock Nice work! I dont see anything to criticize. Mike
  6. philip There has been alot of discussion on round/head knives. On who makes the best and everyone's favorites. Type round knife or head knife in the search engine and it should bring up the topics. Good Luck, Mike
  7. megabit The bosal is coming along great. I have to agree with everyone else on seeing the improvement in your braiding and knots. Keep up the good work. Mike
  8. Jim Nice poem I like it. The other night I chased a possum around the barn with a hammer. I would of had him except I stepped on a cat and then tripped over the dog. Needless to say he got away this time. Mike
  9. I must be on the wrong ebay as I haven't seen any gomph tools go for 5 0r 10 dollars!!! Although I don't consider myself the sharpest tool in the bucket I don't consider myself the dullest either. I do some buying on ebay and I'm 99.9% happy with my experience. But then again I try and find out what a tool is worth and then figure the most I want to pay for it. I will then set my maximum and forget about it. Sometimes I think people are buying gifts for others and they don't the true value of the tool their bidding on. They may not know where to go to buy these tools other than ebay. Which is no excuse but sometimes I wonder what if that was my mom or wife trying to buy me a gift. I reckon people just need to take the time and try to find out the true worth of what their bidding on. Mike
  10. entiendo That's pretty cool!! I like the edge braid. I think I got some buffalo sacks around here I just got to find them. Thanks for sharing and the great idea. Mike
  11. dickf I went ahead with DSL they just wired me up this afternoon. I'm fixin to plug the modem in. Hopefully it runs just as fast if not faster at least it will be steady. The installer said I was the farthest one out yet but her machine showed a good connection. I'll have to post a report in a few days after using it for awhile. Mike
  12. Monty Thanks for the reply. I think were going to try the land line and hope for the best as it is 60 bucks cheaper a month. When I check the speed on the wireless it bounces all over from nothing up to 1 mb. But usually runs around 300 to 600 kbps. So I'm not to sure we'll be losing any speed. Thanks again, Mike
  13. I'm not sure if this is of any help. But when I was looking for some punches here's some info. I recieved there are other suppliers listed in the thread. I'm not sure on how to post a link to the thread but it was started by me back in Sept. I think title says something about bag and end punches. I did get ahold of some old osborne so I didn't buy anything from these folks. Best of Luck, Mike Mike, This guy used to post some of these on eBay. He had oblongpunches (sold them as Amish steel - painted blue) as well as otherstrap end cutters. 14. I could view it. WOW video on LW!! Thanks for the video! Mike
  15. Hello to all I was wondering if someone with more pewter knowledge than me(which shouldn't be hard to come by) could give a fella some advice. Right now for our internet were going through our cellphone company (Verizon). It's works pretty good most of the time. But seeing as we live out in the sticks we don't always get the best reception. The wife thinks we would get faster speeds if we upgrade our wireless thingy the one we have is two years old. Our contract just expired so we need to renew. Verizon also has a usage cap. Well the other day embark called and said they had high speed internet in our area now through the phone line. The speed I think is 762 kps. My question is 762 kps fast enough to open pictures on LW without waiting and will that play stuff like utube videos without having to wait all day. If I go with the phone company it's about $60.00 cheaper a month than keeping my wireless service. So considering cost and speed how much do you notice the difference between say 762 kps and say 1.4 mps. Any and all advice welcomed and I do apologize if I've used the wrong terms. Thanks, Mike
  16. Welcome to the forum. Nice looking work. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Mike
  17. Alot of times I'll use electrical tape or athletic tape over my wall knot. I cut the tape tape in long thin strips and start winding it around the knot until I get the desired shape. If my knot is going to big I'll first build it up with a turks head and then use the tape to make it round or whatever shape I'm after. Sometimes I just have to use little pieces to build up one side or the top and/or bottom. Just remember the finished knot will look like your foundation so take your time and get it how you want it to look. Best of luck, Mike
  18. Mike I just sharpen it I would a regular knife. It's a pain in the a** to hold on to. Mike
  19. Mike I think it would look good. I personally like using a drawgauge but when I was just out of high school I worked in a tack shop and used one alot. Make sure your blade is sharp. I don't know what brand of drawgauge your using but I use a old osborne that has walnut grips. I've tried the steel handled ones and weaver's drawgauge and I didn't like them near as much as my osborne. As far as the uneven width goes you should be able to true it up when you cut to your final size. Best of luck, Mike
  20. John Thanks for the kind words. I need to build a couple more for my other kids so I'll have to give the artificial sinew a try. Thanks for the idea. Mike
  21. rcsaddles Thanks for the kind words. To attach it I went to the hardware store and got a couple of small brass coter pins. I then ran them thru the sweat band. Mike
  22. gmlechuga Thanks for the kind words. I have only used the two methods mentioned above. When I run the hair through the braid that seems the most secure. But with that being said my daughter has used this stampede all this summer and the hair hasn't slipped out. I just made sure that when I wrapped it I pulled the fire out of it. Best of luck, Mike
  23. Welcome Tim Could you post a picture of the knot your wanting. Seeing how people call the same knot by different names a picture would be helpful. Mike
  24. For cutting with a round knife and end punching and other punching such as drive and bag punches. I use a big cutting board from wally world, Target or some such place. There not that much and work good. As soon as I get the time though I'm going to melt some lead and try that. I think I was told to use plumbers lead. Mike
  25. Doms Mark a 1/16 down each side for the length ya want to narrow down. Then use your end punch to start your cut from 7/8 to 3/4". Then use a round knife to finish the cut to the end. If your having trouble with the end punch just use the round knife. With a little practice you should be able to do a real nice job. Best of luck, Mike
