  1. Thanks everybody. I'm also making a twin for it. I cut out the main pieces at the same time as this one. I'm just about to start sewing it up. Should be done in by the end of the week (maybe) and I'll post pics of it in this thread. I can already say I like the one above better, but that is just due to the color of dye. Holly, keep that in mind I'm a very novice powder coater, but you can do powder coat in a craft room or garage. You don't do it in an oven you cook food in though.. I bought a small toaster oven to cure my parts since the stuff I do is small I just marked it "No Food". You just have to be able to heat the parts over 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Powder coating requires a basic air compressor, only needs a very low amount of pressure to spray the powder. My powder coating gun was part of a kit and was around $200 from Eastwood, You can get a cheaper one from Harbor Freight.
  2. Have the lower d-rings so you can wear the bag as a backpack by running the strap through the handle on top and to the bottom d-rings. Here is the powder. I guess its actually Transparent copper by Prismatic Powders. http://www.prismaticpowders.com/colors/P-5162S/transparent-copper/ Forgot to mention the lining is pig skin.
  3. Similar to my first bag. Mostly 9-10 oz leather. Oxblood dye. 50/50 mix of water and Resolene coating done in about 3 coats. Copper rivets. Clasp and buckles from Tandy, d-rings from Springfield Leather, but I powder coated them all using "prismatic copper" powder. Rough dimensions 12" x 10.5" x 5"

    Greenman

Pretty cool. Curious if the "Greenman" is inspired by the Wheel of Time's Greenman?
  6. Ha, that was one of the first I found at my local library after finishing up The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. I loved it then, in my teens, but I don't think it held up (as far as my enjoyment) as I aged. I tend to re-read a lot of books, and I think the last time I went to reread those, in my twenties, I wasn't as big a fan of some of the dialogue. Then again my favorite is probably Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy and many people who have started it claim the first book starts too slow and is boring for them.
  7. I used Fredo's method from the post I referenced. I had a piece of pvc plumbing pipe about 2 feet long and I think it has about a 4 inch diameter (maybe about 10-11 cm for those on the metric system) that I wet formed the main body and end caps around. For the end caps, I wet formed formed them over the end of the pipe and put a large hose clamp on the leather to draw it in tight kind of like a drum. I also used the edge of the clamp as a guide to trim the cap as evenly as I could after it had dried. I also punched the stitching holes with the cap on the pvc pipe.
  8. Pretty cool. I too am a biker who found my love of reading due to Tolkien back when I was jr. High.
  9. My dad has asked me to make something similar for one of his beagles. He suspects that when the beagle goes chasing rabbits that their German Shepard gets excited and may be biting the beagles. He hasn't seen it happen, but has had a few beagles get home after chasing rabbits with what appear to be bite marks on their necks.
  10. Thanks guys. This was my first use of dye not in Fiebings Pro oil type. Still Fiebings, but I guess its just alcohol based. The interior where it is not dyed does have tan-kote on it. I didn't dye the entire inside as I thought having a lighter color may make it easier to see inside when it is opened. Its also only the second time I've been able to use Resolene without it streaking really badly.
  11. Pretty cool. Here is one you could add to your gallery if you want. Though the Seabees aren't an aviation unit, they are combat constructioin. I think that is the WWII era version. I was in from '94 to '99. Even Walt Disney did one
  12. So I was inspired by a user here, Fredo's, fork bag to make my own, especially since I was just using an old case my sun glasses came in. I finally finished it this weekend. I believe I used 10oz Herman Oak veg tan for it. (started it about a month ago, but worked on other stuff instead of just completing it in one go) It was my first real extensive use of stamping. Took me several tries to get the "Harley Davidson" stamped somewhat evenly. The finish is Fiebings Ox Blood with a 50/50 Resolene/Water finish. I powder coated the d-rings and buckles a transparent copper color. The original inspiration: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=56198
