Tote Bag For Grandma
Dan28 replied to Hi Im Joe's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I didn't even know that was possible. I figured since the pictures only show one side that the other had a piece of leather covering where the handle straps cuts had went all the way to the end. I was sure that was the only way to accomplish the braid. Well, now I know better. It looks pretty nice to me. Are there any inside pockets? I may make a tote for my aunt, and wondering if it is customary to put pocket compartments in or not. -
Finished My First Purse
Dan28 replied to Dan28's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I just kind of looked at images of purses from Google, found one I thought the person who is getting it would like and kind of created my own version and pattern from looking at the picture and creating some changes. I tend to hold a ruler in my hands a lot when coming up with designs to get an idea how big I want stuff. The leather of the main body is 4/5 oz Herman Oak veg tan from Springfield leather. The small pouch and the strap are the same type leather except 3 to 4 oz. The strap is a laminate of two pieces glued (w/ Barge cement) flesh side to flesh side. The divider in the interior is a laminate of calfskin from Springfield leather, think maybe 2 oz. The zipper border and pieces at the base of the straps are also out of that calfskin. The lining is tan pigskin. I used Fiebings Pro oil dye in Red. It has been rubbed down with mink oil, but I'm hesitant to try Resolene on it now as I've haven't been able to master applying it well. -

That is an excellent idea, that I failed to think of before hand. If I ever consider making another one, of these ( I do have a pattern now after all) That is exactly what I will do. -
A Couple More Exotic Leather Arm Guards
Dan28 replied to dhaverstick's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Green being my favorite color, I really liked the first two, but that elephant one is also really nice looking. I don't even own a bow, but now I want to go shoot my dad's compound bow.- 7 replies

You know what, I may be able to help. Probably should have just done this rather than explain the convoluted process I went through to view them. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=90701 http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=90703 http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=90702

Finished My First Purse
Dan28 replied to Dan28's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I've thought about keeping track of how many hours I sew on some of these larger projects, but maybe I don't really want to know. I'm sure it was over 15 hours on that, I am getting faster though. Oh and I don't think the pictures do the thread I used justice. That is Scarlett waxed poly cord from Maine Thread Co. that I saw some people on here recommend. It is pretty nice thread. I would have liked to had the outside compartment with the stitches on the inside as well, but couldn't think of a way to do that and then attach it to the purse. It has two horizontal stitch lines connecting it to the main body of the purse, one visible in the pics and one about three inches lower at the bottom of the little pouch. I sewed the back and gussets to the purse until I got to the front side of the gusset. I stopped there so I would be able to have room to then stitch my lower horizontal line connecting it to the purse. Once the horizontal lines were done, I finished sewing the the front of the pouch and the gusset. There probably is a way to attach it whole that I didn't think of, like putting an extension piece that extends down past the end of the pouch, but I chose not to do that. That purse is now full of bubble wrap to keep it's shape and in storage waiting for Christmas as its going to be a gift. Not procrastinating this year like I have always done in the past. On a side note, I've had three people who I showed it to, want just the little pouch as a small clutch/purse. I may make some of those because I can whip them out fast and I did make a pattern for it and saved it. -
That is a pretty cool detail especially since its a range bag. I think I've seen some snaps on Springfield Leather that are in that fashion. Guess you would want to fire it first, or you would be in for a nice surprise when you go to punch that hole in the cap. I had problems loading the pictures too (with Firefox) to view them, I quoted the original post, then right clicked on the image links in the quote and copied the image location and opened the link in a new tab.

Nautical Belt With Cotton Webbing
Dan28 replied to Neillo's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Neat belt. I too am on the last hole of my first belt, that I made about 3 or 4 months ago. I have to decide if I just want to punch a few more holes and have an excess of extra length or just make a new one. I think I will just punch a few more holes for now, as I will probably continue to drop weight and eventually will make a much shorter belt. If you are making more and in need of the webbing, you could try website called Strapworks. I know they have all kinds of webbing in different patterns and prints. I bought some metal hardware from them that they powder coat different colors for you and it was a good experience so I will buy from them again. They also do a lot of YouTube videos demoing their products I know they ship to Australia, but don't know if it would be cost effective for you. -
Pretty cool. What are those rivets that look like they are going though washers? I don't recall ever seeing those before.

First Holster, Mag Holder And Gun Belt - Iwb

I'm curious about #4 as well, and want to learn so I can apply that to any I do. -
That is so nice, it'd almost be a shame to plant a keester on it.

Finished My First Purse
Dan28 replied to Dan28's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I had no plans once I got to the zipper part. I knew I was going to put a zipper on it but not exactly sure how I was going to accomplish that. I ended up winging it Kind of wished the actual zipper piece was about a quarter inch shorter on one side. Also the first zipper I bought was 9 inches which meant it would not have went from end to end. I had planed to center it and I thought that would be fine, but some lady friends of mine told me it needed to go from end to end. So I had to search for a longer red zipper. Ended up getting one that was about 2 inches longer and cutting it down. -
Finished My First Purse
Dan28 replied to Dan28's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks. That is all hand stitched as I don't have a sewing machine. -
Well, almost finished. I am going to replace the snap on the outside compartment with another type of clasp, as it is hard to snap closed when empty. It was sewn inside out and pretty hard to flip after sewing. I probably should have wet it before trying to turn it inside out. I got some permanent wrinkles on the back side from doing that. I also had to make a longer strap, as my first one probably would have been too short to wear cross-body.
