Does anyone know the type of leather that is used for lining belts, headstalls etc? It's not upholstery or chap leather, but it almost looks like a lightweight latigo - reddish in color and maybe 2-4 oz.
Thanks,
Butch
Thanks guys.
Bob,
That stitch is a stair step applique. It's mainly used with leather thongs in braiding, but I started using it as my main stitch.

Just curious what type of finish you might be using for belts that are dyed partially black or have letters that are dyed black. I've previously used black leather paint and noticed that it has a tendency to come off or peel.
I don't want the dye to bleed out and run into the natural leather. I've also used Saddle LAC and Leather Sheen, but I'd like to know if there is something out there that is better as a finish.
Thank you very much,
Butch
