  1. Just taking a stab here, on leather you will need enough to cover all4 sides of the object to be carried + material for attaching to your belt. Just a guess at my local Tandy leather for 1 holster will range about $40 or so, depending on the thickness you want. The sewing kit from Tandy should cover your sewing needs, if there is not an Awl in the kit my advice is get one, during the sheath calss I took while not using an awl, I broke 3 needles. Also look at the color of thread in the kit, you may want a different color for your holster. Just my two cents. Good Luck.
  2. TERRY, Thanks for a great post, compensation for many of us is difficult, however necessary. You made a very good point. Thankfully many of the hobbies we pick up can be leaaarned only if we apply ourselves, some you may make money doing, others are pure enjoyment.
  3. I am doing the same thing adding tools I want to the wish list, their tools are 100% guaranteed . Happy tooling and cutting, Tandy' classes are reasonable as well. 4. Great point Jazzman. Sorry for the forced change. I pray yoou grow to love your leather work and surpass yoour. Musical ability.
  5. Tandy does have 100% guarantee on their tools, though they will not cover the leather they sell I bent my camouflage tool it was replaced no questions ask. However, I too will be shopping other companies if tools keep bending.
  6. Went to BK's page, if I bend any more tools, I will be changing over. Their prices are not too bad, however higher than Tandy. though you get what you pay for.
  7. My thought is get the equipment you can now, and add each piece as you need it and can afford it one or two pieces at a time. I am upgrading my Tandy Deluxe kit a little at a time.
  8. Where is the best place to get good quality tools? Starting out with Tandy stuff, but will change to better tools, hoping to skip a lot of stupid tax along the way.
  9. We are all given some talent, while there may be no artist in many of us. We all do have the capacity to learn, and make the life of those around us better is something we all can do. Just my humble opinion. I am learning to stamp leather myself at this time, Using my swivel knife is almost a laughable effort, but I am practicing and trying. However, continue to learn and see were you can go.
  10. Sorry, Mike posted to wrong topic, however, thanks for posting your research on different knives.
