This is not at all offensive, it is an expression of art, being a person who deals with Self Injury issues and having received an e-mail sharing this bracelet, I would like to make one note about EMO and Self Injury Alot of people confuse self harm with attention seeking or the populer mainstream fad known as "emo". This is not the truth, Self harm is not about getting attention or making a statement, self harm is about release, mainly of stress. When someone is emotionally hurt, self injury is used to "numb out the feelings" it is a survival technique. That being said... I like the detail in the bracelet, it definitely says alot without words. Was this something that you made for yourself, a friend or a customer? Although I tend to draw dark (morbid) pictures, I haven't put them to leather, this is a GREAT bracelet, thank you for sharing it with the group.

I would dye the belt before putting on the liner, I punch my holes last, after dyeing stiaining, carving etc. One reason for punching holes after dyeing or staining is so that there is not "slop dye" on the interior of the belt and on the lining if the belt is lined. Bob Beard Carving Class Bob Beard will be holding classes at The Leather Factory in Baldwin Park, California There are 2 different classes he is offering: Class 1: Friday, Aug 18th Bob will be teaching Classic Western Leather Carving. He is teaching HIS techniques for classic western scrolls, carving filigree and embossing. You will be learning to create beatiful classic western floral cavings in the Bob's unique style, including embossing parts of the design and filigree backgrounding techniques. The cost for the class is $100.00 per person Class 2: 2 day class, Saturday August 19th Sunday August 20th This class will cover Bob's figure carving and coloring techniques. Attendees will be carving a desert scene along with scrollwork on a leather checkbook cover. You will learn to emboss parts of the design as well as filigree backgrounding techniques. The cost for the class is $175.00 per person All leather, powders, stains, colors and finishes will be provided. We do the Leathercraft Merit Badge with the scouts on Saturday by appointment. They usually do leather stamping as opposed to tooling, carving. I have been pleasantly surprised at the planning that some of the boys put into their belts and the talent that comes through as they make them. Thank you for sharing the BSA information. Sandi

I love the artwork on your drum, You did everything that is traditionally done in drum making, sometimes the difficulty is in the type of rawhide and rawhide lace you use, Elk and deer rawhide are common in drum making, Sheep and goat hides also work well, but will produce a higher pitched drum. Cow hide is usually too thick to make a good drum and is hard to work with. The only advice I can give on drum making is be careful how tight you make the head(s) as you stretch them because if you pull the head(s) too tightly your lacing may rip out the sides of the rawhide head, It may crack the drum rim or you may end up with a flat sounding drum.
