  1. That Featherweight 221 is an absolute charmer, and can tackle a lot more than its size would leave you to believe. I have one I bought off fleabay that no-one wanted, as it had been (badly) sprayed silver, and had parts missing. I'm not finished restoring it yet, but it is already a real sweety to me. Also, they are much sought after in good working, and cosmetic condition.
  2. Many thanks, I enjoyed the challenge, and although it's not perfect, it's the period we wanted to capture, rather than perfection.
  3. I made this for a customer, and yes, I know the design has flaws, but in my defense, I've done very little carving designs. Even so, both myself and the customer are pretty chuffed at how it turned out. He basically wanted something that looked as if it had slipped out the pages of 'Packing Iron', as he does a lot of re-enactments. I've added a picture of the other holster he wanted, which has a bit more descrete markings, but I think still looks in keeping with the era.
  4. Very nice finish. I can't help specifically, but have attached a picture of a 45K for comparason. Keep in mind that you'll have 75 years of 'weathering', so it depends on whether you are after factory fresh or aged, I suppose.
  5. I could always send you some info on something you could truly appreciate. The giant comfy slipper, big enough for the whole family (If you don't have this product in America, then you have really missed out), and I won't take a penny in commission (maybe several pounds, but we all have to eat).
  6. One must throw one's tuppenceworth in here. As time goes by, gravity takes over, whether you are as thin as a rake, or well upholstered. In short, age related pencil stickage.
  7. I'm quite a new convert to Amazon Prime. Order on Saturday, nice man in van delivers on Sunday.
  8. I remember a quote from an historian, "The Roman Empire didn't fall, it just moved".
  9. You know there is a real problem with a society, when a prized possession, is a $250,000 diamond encrusted gold smart phone cover. An unartistic, tasteless piece of expensive tat, for a mobile phone that was probibly out of fashion a month after the cover was bought. Wrong priorities being taught.
  10. Agree, if you don't have the basics in place, you can't build a proper production system. In the UK, we seem to be happy to let farmers sell off land to build housing. They forget that a country who cannot produce enough food for their own people, becomes dependant on outside forces. Lose trade with that country providing your staple foods, and you lose a vital resource. Same with production, rely wholly on other countries for your heavy industries, and you weaken your infrastructure, possibly to a point of collapse. Both farmland and industry iare difficult, even impossible to replace.
  11. Don't know how I managed to post twice, but heyho. Northwest Scotland is certainly jaw dropping in its beuty (IMHO, the rest is wonderful too.:-)). sadly, I never find such wonderful tools anywhere, or at least at an affordable price.
  12. In the words of McGonagall- It must have been an awful sight,To witness in the dusky moonlight,While the Storm Fiend did laugh, and angry did bray,Along the Railway Bridge of the Silv’ry Tay,Oh! ill-fated Bridge of the Silv’ry Tay,I must now conclude my layBy telling the world fearlessly without the least dismay,That your central girders would not have given way,At least many sensible men do say,Had they been supported on each side with buttresses,At least many sensible men confesses,For the stronger we our houses do build,The less chance we have of being killed.
  13. We had a power 'outage' for 15 minutes last month. Neighbours wandering the street in devastation, muttering "we're missing Corrie", and forced to talk to their partners for entertainment. The horror! The horror!
  14. I love dipping into this thread. The tools are just so lovely, and if I'm honest, I have more than a pinch of envy going on here. I have a couple of old (and very worn) tools that I use every day, and the quality of the manufacture shines through. It's that solid feel that they have, even when worn, and a bit pitted. I'm just going back to drool over a few more pictures now............
  15. You could always get a die made up and use an arbor press.
  16. I prefer 'Minor God', but that's just my humble opinion. As to power cuts, we grt aerated if the power goes off for an hour a year. Different worlds........
  17. . The dangers of converting measurements, I know them well. Well done for tackling a bra pattern, makes building the Forth Rail Bridge look like child's play.
  18. It's an Aerostar JM-811, 4,000rm, 750w, max torque 7.8n.m., and It was bahaving like this with the standard 50(+?) pulley.
  19. Many thanks for replies folks. Hakish, this motor cane from a well used and abused machine, and whenever I try to sew something thicker than a couple of millimetres, the motor makes slipping sounds, stops working, and I get an error message which apparently means low voltage.
  20. Can't help with questions on the longevity of tiger thread, but it's a very nice thread to use. So good in fact, that I said to the hubby last week "This is a very nice thread to use, dear". I do have some of the Chinese braided thread, and has been said on another thread, it's pretty good, but there is quite a bit of stretch to it.
  21. Thanks, I was going to give College a call, but I like to sound as if I vaguely know what I'm talking about when I do.
  22. I have a Juki ls-341, and I think the servo motor may be losing its "ooomph", so I was having a think. I have a laser engraver, and a 3D printer, if a motor were to die, I would just plug in a new motor. I don't buy a whole new system with control box, etc. Question, can you do the same with a sewing machine servo motor. Could you not just buy a 1.5hp motor, and plug it in to an existing system, to replace a 1hp motor. Just curious.
