Speed Loader Case
indidana replied to indidana's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Har har! All my questions are good questions! This is what I've got so far. I was working with two pieces of dowel wrapped with rubber band to keep them together, but I got my husband to make me a flat-bottom piece to mold the leather easier. The side flaps will attach to a separate back piece (not pictured). The long section of the T wraps completely around to form the flap and belt loop (the it will also be sewn to the separate back piece). She's worried her rounds will fall out if the loaders aren't fully enclosed. Seeing as how I know nothing about speed loaders, I'm doing as she asked. I don't know if she has a different kind of loader or what. Now I'm just waiting on my husband to get home with the new block so I can get back to work! -
Speed Loader Case
indidana replied to indidana's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you all so much. The husband and baby are still asleep or I'd take a picture of what I have so far. I love the pictures y'all sent, and I would absolutely use them as a base to go off, except my friend wants hers to be enclosed. Yes, it's a revolver. She has a S&W Ladysmith and has two speedloaders she wants a case for. The case (and holster) will be going on a shoulder rig, so I have to keep it as compact as possible. She's a small-framed lady. Luckily she carries a small gun with tiny speedloaders! -
I have tried making three different cases for speed loaders and am not having any luck. I've never made a leather case before so that doesn't help matters any. I've tried making my own pattern and tried reworking a pattern meant for something else. I really just need a tried and true pattern and haven't been able to find anything. Do any of y'all have a pattern or even advice? I would really appreciate it!

I'm horrible at shading/shadowing. What tool is best to do this skull? I've been using craftool B200 to bevel but obviously don't want to use it for shading the entire thing. I thought about P206, a pear shader with no markings on it but I don't like the way it makes the skull look. Help!!

I LOVE IT! Dia de los Muertes is my favorite. What do you charge for your stamps?

I did, I don't know why it won't show. It's there when I edit the post.

This is the owl. I dyed and stained it, one coat of super shene then washed it off as much as I could with a wet sponge. The owl has a second coat of dye, no second coat of stain yet. I'm going to stain it tomorrow then try acrylic resolene on it. What's the best way to stain it without ruining the owl and flower /leaves ?

Thank you for all the tips! I had a feeling tandy's water based products weren't very good but haven't looked around for anything else yet.

I didn't use antique, just hi-life stain. Won't I just end up with the same problem with the second coat of color when I apply super shene to it? Not only that but I dyed an owl, flower and leaves; one coat of stain messed them up more than I'd like, two would ruin them. I feel like I'm doing something wrong there. I poured a little super shene on a sponge and applied a thin layer because I knew it was going to take some dye off. I didn't even bother with a second coat, I just washed the entire thing and started over. I'm waiting on a shipment of supplies to come in. I got acrylic resolene. Is it as good as everyone says?

I use super shene as a protective top coat. My issue is that it "erases" the stain. It picks up dyes and stains so that it's not in the cuts and tool marks anymore. I just spent a couple hours dying an owl to perfection, then stained the background and used super shene as the top coat and it not only removed the stain from the tool marks in the background, it removed dye that I had put three layers of super shene on to avoid this problem. Needless to say, it looks like a child made it.

I hope I got your attention with the title! I really need some help here. I'm looking for a pattern/template for a holster for a .357 s&w ladysmith. It's going on a shoulder rig so I need it to have a bet loop on the back rather than a clip, but I can easily change that part of the design. I'm also looking for a shoulder rig that is better suited for women. Seems like everything I've seen is more for men. I've got a one size fits all deal, but would like a pattern/template for women if there's one out there. Lastly, I need to make a couple, or one large pouch for two speed loaders. All of this is pretty new to me. I haven't been doing leather for very long and would really appreciate any and all help. Thanks y'all!

Hey y'all! A family member has asked me to reupholster her wheelchair with tooled leather. On the back she wants a log with four children sitting on it, facing away, so we see their backs. She wants them to have angel wings and the log to have a branch coming off it with four leaves, one for each child's name. I'm a decent drawer, but this is beyond me. The children need to be sized according to age: 11, 9, 6, and 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you both! What I ended up doing on this project ( and the cincher belt ), was dye the entire thing black, then used acrylic paint for the letters/rose. It took a few layers of white before I could start adding color. I had found that gum trag does NOT work as a resist at all. Super shene takes many many coats to resist as much as I need/want it to but works well! I have found that super shene doesn't work well as a resist against dye but works well with stain. The 88 wallet I dyed coal black then layers of white acrylic paint before I could paint the 88 red. The vacuum truck tally book cover I dyed black after tooling then used probably 6 or 7 layers of super shene over it and the rest of the truck before I stained it saddle tan. Next time I am going to try a layer of super shene over the dye before I paint it am see if that helps with the dye bleeding into the paint. Hello again, btw! I am posting a new one in critique my work. I need some pointers on it, you ought to check it out! I'll title it Indian Deer.

Thank you! I think I asked more out if fear of doing something I haven't done before and wanted someone to walk me through it. Lol However, I am a bit of an impatient person and didn't wait for replies before I got started on it. These kids are always right there, in my face and in the way. But they're so dang cute!

I got it in my head that I wanted to make this belt style and within two days I did! I'm fairly new to leather working, and this is my first belt. I used Tandy's belt sizing guide to measure myself and draw a belt template for 29" waist, and it fits perfectly! I used 8-9 oz leather, coal black dye, and cova colors, as well as super shene, black edge kote and gum tragacanth. I don't have a good wood burnisher so my edges aren't as nice as I'd like them to be, but considering I cut it all by hand I think the whole thing turned out well.

Thank you! I'll post some pics as I go.

Pattern- I made my own last night. I pulled out my Tandy guidebook that has belt directions and wen from there. Design- I'm drawing up a rose now. Leather- I used 8-9 oz as I felt like 6-7 oz would be too floppy. Tools- check. Edging- working on evening and smoothing them out. Dye- check. Finish- check. Hardware- I've got a center bar buckle to use until I order one I like better and am making my own keeper. I feel like the oval(ish) center didn't turn out too well. I've been working on getting it more even but I'm such a perfectionist it could take me forever and I'd still not be happy with it! My pattern was spot-on but transferring it to the leather I think distorted it a little more than I thought it would. I've got my center hole punched in as well as the buckle tongue hole.

Hi all! I've got it in my head that I want to make a waist cinching belt. I don't need/want it as a waist cincher, I just really like the style. I have an idea how to go about it because it seems pretty simple, but I know I'm overlooking something. Any tips? Thanks!

Here's my attempt at the pattern. I had a lady ask me to make her a business card holder for her boss. That turned into "stringing" three of them together so I suggested a trifold wallet type holder. I searched online and found this pattern and was immediately sold. She said it doesn't even need to fold because her boss carries huge purses, so I made it with 3 oz. It was my first attempt at a wallet! Each pocket on the inside is for her three different businesses. The pockets on the outside are for credit cards, and, of course, there's the bill pocket.

Which is better for repelling dye/stain? I need to paint some letters light gray and dye the leather black. I've been experimenting with the two, and am still working on it, but though I'd ask if anyone has any experience in this area. I had planned to dye first, but it distorts the paint color if I paint on dye/stain.
