  1. Thanks for all the responses, Wix this is the only machine I could afford at the moment and from what I understand it will do ok with double weight for a gun belt. If it is such that I have to hand sew a holster so be it, but for starting out I was hoping this would work until I can score a good deal on another machine that can handle holsters. but again thanks to all for the input.
  2. Thanks all for the info, Colt what are some of the items that you can sew with yours, as well as the others what are some of the types of things you find you can do with your machine.
  3. Thanks guys this the type of info I was after great stuff many thanks. OnS
  4. I bought a consew but will not get it for a few weeks as it is Cali and have to get it prepped for shipping but, I will want to get a new servo drive motor and will I need to get a new pulley for it to slow it down? Also where is the best price for needles, bobbins, thread, and while I am at the largest needle that it will run. This is all a new venture for me, I ad thought about nylon web tactical belt making but also want to make leather belts and holsters. Thanks in advance for your input and thoughts. OnS
  5. well I got It wet and let sit outside for a while and it would not stiffen up so, I have to figure that it has be chrome tanned and wont work for what I need. Thanks for the input.
  6. I am a newbie and will be trying my hand at some holsters, belts and other items, I have three pieces of leather right now but uncertain what type of leather it is, one I bought at harbor freight it is intended to be a welders apron, it is fairly thick yet plyable. The other 2 were for intended as welders aprons but not as thick, the 2 feel along the lines of buck skin, as well as the other but thicker. is there a way to determine how they were tanned, I was thinking that if they are not chrome tanned I could use them as a liner in holsters as I want to line my holsters in able to set mine aside from others, backing against the skin if it is a leather kydex holster. Thanks in advance SnO
  7. ya I did a search and it is not letting me search here in the 48 for it.
  8. where can the other 2 types be purchased at. Thanks OnL
  9. when using weldwood contact cement can the item to be sewed be left for a few to several days before going back and sewing or does it have to be sewed together soon after gluing? From a quick search it looks like weldwood is available at lowes and other big box suppliers, is that correct, or is it a completely different product. Thanks
  10. Thanks for the reply, I most likely wont have it shipped with the motor when I get it a was planning on installing a new motor and what ever else is needed to bring down the speed. OnS
  11. Has anyone made one like this so that the leather belt is not overly thick yet has good support? And if so how were they glued together? As an example I was thinking about a 1.5 inch belt with the usual 8-9 ounce outer with maybe a 6-7 backing with the center being nylon webbing in very light weight of 1.25 thickness and double stitching. Please give your thoughts on this, I have read where kydex could crack, but the nylon will give good support yet feel like a normal double thick leather belt. Thanks OnS
  12. Can someone give me an idea about how much a machine and table would weigh, I am going to have one shipped to me. I found a very pristine machine for $500, so I hope I did not make a mistake but from reading other threads I think it is the ballpark for that machine cost. Thanks
  13. I am a newby so you need to help a little but what will the 211 sew? Thanks
  14. I looked up Duncan and their lineup doesn't include the RIA or a holster for a 1911 with a rail, and neither does the blue gun people not sure why not but they don't. I have a found a few machines for sale on craigslist that some of the one's with funny names that I think will do the work, and yes by double I mean 2 8-9 for belts. Right now I would need to be able to buy used and hope I don't have to do much work to get it to run proper to make the items I want to make then dump more money into the machine if needed. Thanks for the input and hope for more.
  15. I am new here and have a few questions and Dwight was kind enough to answer one on another thread. While I have been in the market for a holster for my own daily carry, which is a Rock Island 1911 with a full length rail it has been almost impossible to find a holster maker that could do it. I did do some searching for blue guns or what ever else I could find that would work and again I couldn't locate anything. The thought crossed my mind a couple of years ago about making belts but not leather but the web strap type after I bought one, but the thought of leather has been in the back of my mind for many years. And again what picked my interest was the need for my own personal carry needs. I started to do my due diligence by searching the web and that is what brought me here. So where have most of you found your supplies to work with? I have a Tandy shop in Nashville that is about 45 miles from me but little else that I know of so far, my interest again would be in belts and also in the future holsters, but need a good source for the blue, red, aluminum guns. Also as Dwight mentioned a singer 111w147 I would be interested in a machine that can do the thicker stuff like a double thickness of leather. Hope I made sense thanks to all who will provide some input. And for all those that would like to know, I shoot, reload my own, love my family and my dog and attend a Calvary Church here in TN. Thanks
  16. Thanks Dwight, that is some of the type of info I am looking for, right now a grand would be a little out of reach for me but the singer would be. Thanks again and look forward to learning more here and didn't mean to jack the thread.
  17. I know there would not be any CHEAP machines, but hope that I might find a good used one for a reasonable price, thanks for the input in that it is time consuming to hand stitch, time is what I have a lot of.
  18. forgive for being a newby and wanting to ask a question specially after the last entry, I am retired and been thinking about trying my hand at a few belts. At the last NRA convention here in Nashville there were plenty of belts on display and the double layered and stitched sure did look nice. And I guess the argument could go one forever as to what is best, but is the buyer wants a double layered for his 1911 then I guess that is what he gets, I know I wear one when I go out and currently use a double layer of webbing belt that is nice but is my tee is up some or not tucked in the webbing will rub and be a real pain. The question I have is, it all that difficult to hand sew a double layer of belt? again this something that I have been pondering for a while, and of course belts might or could lead in to other items and would probably want to end up with a machine so that raises another question, what would be the least expensive notice I did say cheap machine that might be used to work on leather with. I know that these questions have probably been asked hundreds of times but please provide some input. Thanks
  19. I live just up the road from you in Clarksville and have a few questions if you don't mind, I am a newby and want to try my hand at making a few things for myself and see if can lead in to something else as I am retired and looking for something that can occupy my time and maybe make a few bucks at. Would this machine be to much for a newby that wants to make belts and holsters vs hand stitching? Why are you getting rid of it? I have been looking at electric models and cant seem to find anything that will work for a reasonable price, Thanks for your input.
