  1. I have tried my ( hand ) at some hand stitching but, my hands are not what they use to be. One too many cold nights of picking up frozen wrenches to get something rolling, is now taking its toll and after a few hours of stitching it takes me some time to recover, maybe a day or two, so to try and do it day in and day out, I would probably be out of the game so to speak. So the next best option is to machine sew, at least for me at this stage in my life. However I want to be able to crank out the best product I can with what I have. The learning curve hasn't been to bad but even doing the hand stamping takes it's toll on my wrists as well so not sure how much of that I would be doing unless I spread it out over a few days, but then again therein lies another question, will letting the leather dry and then wetting again have any negative impact on the leather? Thanks
  2. Thanks for the input, I was beginning to wonder if I was going to get any, even if it was a you suck. But I have been working on the rounding off the corners, as well as the stitching, I was under the impression I could go 1 thread size up with my machine but for what ever reason my machine wont pick up the bobbin thread when trying to us the next size up, I have thought about buying that book but every time I get to Tandy's I forget about it, but I do need to get it and a few other books, this is only my third belt with tooling that got to the finish line the others ended up in the trash, even I could see the terrible in them. As well as the holsters these are the third and fourth that made it to the finish line. Thanks for the comments please keep them coming as again I am just a noob and a little old and slow.
  3. 2 holsters, 1 of the holsters is the second holster I have made the one that doesn't have belt holes punched has since been finished and is out on display in a shop. Since the completion of these, I have been working on more of the pancakes, these are all my own patterns and now have more molds to work with. I picked up a box of 12 molds from multi molds, every now and then they will sell of a box of what they call their rejects for 100.00 so I scraped the cash together to get a box. Although none of these came from those, I just now have something to work with so that I can get some done and out on display in some of the shops where I have been spending money with. The pancake was airbrushed along with a highlighter, when wet formed some of the die shifted that created the finished color.
  4. two responses here, the cost thing for me would be in the 40 to 50 range as well as I am trying to get this thing off the ground with a very limited amount of cash, the other is but not being an expert, I would think that aluminum would work better than the stainless. But only testing would provide an answer to the question. To some it may seem that the wood ones seem to be high based on what they are, but it is my understanding that the fine dust created from cocobolo is very hazardous to a persons health, so that makers of those might be building that in to the cost of making them not to mention that the wood is costly to begin with.
  5. I bought a Tandy one that I have been abusing regularly and then hit it with a stone to sharpen, then a strop and it works well, for the money I cant complain.
  6. should someone want to start making these, I would be interested as long as the cost was kept to a reasonable point. As a side point I saw somewhere the other day, ebay, amazon, not sure where but there were some made out of brass, they had a couple of different widths and came to a sharp point, not sure how the brass would workout being that it is real soft in comparison to aluminum.
  7. I agree 100% it is just like the lil shop that wants to put something out on display, then it gets broken and they ask you to pay for it eeeeeeeeee no, it the chance they take and the cost of doing business just the way it is. But I suspect someone got burned?
  8. Thanks to both I'll take a look at the mag holder you have!
  9. the long back side is 9/10'' inch wide the back side again from base plate to top of mag4 9/10 the wideside is 1 4/10 wide it tapers to the top to 5/8
  10. I fubared that I had lost my mind for a few minutes there but now I have found it so here goes, I have a XD mod 2 45 that has a double stack mag, it holds 13 rounds and would like to make a mag holder for it. But I don't think any of your patterns will work, or would it just be a matter of guessing and modifying till it fits?
  11. I own a EX mod double stack 45 and would like to make a leather holder for it, would one of JLS patterns work by adjusting the measurements both out and up a little, or does someone have a pattern specific to that model mag that you would be willing to share in advance. Thanks O n S Ron
  12. there is a good tutorial over on kydexpro.com on how to make your own with a product that you can buy at hobby lobby. the material used has some aluminum in it so the finished product is reported to be very strong. One way that I have decide to answer the problem although it does lower the profit for that particular build, is that when a holster is ordered you take the funds and buy the mold needed. Of course you have to give a lead time of a couple of weeks in order to get the blue gun you need. Again if you go over to kydexpro.com you might pick up some ideas on what some of those guys are doing for their dummy guns.
  13. this is an old old thread but anyway if you look up scoville they sell pull the dot fasteners and there are 2 lengths
  14. oh ok, I know of one person who got one from San Bernardino County during last year and I am curious if some of the law enforcement is lightning up about signing off on the permits after the recent shootings? I have heard that a lot of the gun shops have been running low on stock back there after the shootings in the south land, and have also hear the some of the Pastors in some churches are support concealed if a person is licensed to do so. Such a shame to take a mishap to cause a change in attitude.
  15. he was selling his business so he may have deactivated his website, he had it listed here for sale.
  16. where in Kali did you take the ccw class? and where are you planning on applying at if you don't mind me asking.
  17. have you found that one particular basket weave stamp works better than another when it comes to do an arrow pattern, or is it just a matter of choice and taste? Thanks in Advance O n S
  18. mine is going to look totally Cracker jack box stuff in compared to this stuff, I may have to rethink what I am doing before doing it. SHESH.
  19. I like the way you did that, I have already begun to put everything together and in the event it doesn't work out like I hope it will I will need to use something like you have there, so I might borrow that idea if mine doesn't work out. Thanks
  20. well as it turns out I found a guy over the weekend that had a whole stack of pulleys all brand new with the bearings and shafts for sale for 25.00 so now I just need to put it all together.
  21. I searched and did not find the answer to my question, and I can figure that the answer will very depending on weather it is store bought or home made, but would like to know what the common sizes of the speed reducer sets run. Thanks to all who answer. O n S Ron
