  1. Your carvings look better than the source material!
  2. I'll be the first to admit it, the carving on this piece is rough. The stitching is uneven and the edging is really lumpy. But I think it turned out really well all in all. I'm particularly happy with the design because I actually drew the thistle myself (and if you could see my normal attempts at drawing you'd be impressed too!) I made this leather covered tape measure for a friend who weaves tartan scarves and shawls. I think he'll like it

    New Mask Design

Thanks They're colored with a base coat of yellow spirit dye, then a coat of Resolene or Leather Sheen, then acrylic paint, then another few coats of Leather Sheen. I used a foam brush and a sea sponge to apply the acrylic paint. What do you mean about "round and cap for the stem"?

    Mask Ties

What do you use for the ties on your masks? I used to use round lacing, but that got expensive and tended to break after a while. I'm now using black organza ribbon from a craft store, but at $4/10 yards, it's getting a bit pricey too. Thanks

A very half-assed carving, but I love this piece because of the coloring and that I came up with the thistle design by myself

    New Mask Design

I've added a new mask design to my collection, an oak leaf. I only made two as prototypes to sell this fall. What do you guys think about the design? The pictures don't show the colors very well, I promise they look better than that Autumn-colored Green colored (with a fade to yellow on the tips)

  11. Have to develop a "green man" mask this weekend. Gonna be exciting :)

  12. I typically seal the back with whatever I'm sealing the front with. Lately it's been leather sheen.
  13. Love them! I especially love the last one's paint job. Very cool
  14. Here's a new mask I made last week. I painted a black and white checkerboard design onto the mask. The white paint was mixed with glow in the dark paint so it looks super spiffy in the dark I had a hell of a time keeping the black paint in check. I must have spent as much time doing cleanup as I did forming it and putting down the base color combined. Apparently I never graduated from kindergarten when it comes to staying in the lines. Sorry the picture is a bit dark, but you get the idea.
