  1. I couldn't say for sure w/o experimenting, But I don't think so. Laser printers work by "baking" the ink onto the medium. Ink jets rely on the ink drying naturally/being absorbed by the medium.
  2. Thanks so much for the brilliant tutorial! However, I have a stupid question: Edging should be one of the last steps in the piece, right? After dying/staining the tooling but before the finish?
  3. That's definitely pretty cool What kind of leather did you use?

  5. Wow! Thanks so much!
  6. That's a good idea I may give that a try.
  7. So I finally heard back from the guy and all he wants is a 72" strip of 2" wide leather dyed black with the name of his band tooled on it. No lining, padding, etc. I decided to charge $95 since it's such a simple piece (and because I've never made one before, it gets a "learning discount"). There's also a good chance of repeat business w/ the guy and his bandmates.
  8. NYRF by any chance? We got rained out too.
  9. Right, I should have mentioned he wants it 2 inches wide, which I suppose is fairly standard. I haven't heard from him yet this morning.
  10. I'll ask to be sure, but he sent me a doodle, and it looks like a 1 piece. I'll also ask if he wants it lined/padded.
  11. I was contacted by a gent looking for a custom bass guitar strap. The tooling is simple, not a big deal there. I've never made a guitar strap before and I was wondering what other people charge for theirs. He'd like it to be 72" long, with the name of his band tooled on the front (like I said, no biggie), and dyed black. What would you charge for such a piece?
  12. This is really the only place I've seen it available: http://jas-townsend.com/product_info.php?products_id=373
  13. Thanks for all your encouragement. Now I just need the guy to pay for it!
  14. by any chance, do you have a shot of the tip? I'm interested in seeing how you finished that part It really is a beautiful piece by the way!
  15. I've never seen sealion before. I thought it was buffalo at first It's gorgeous!
  16. Well, I know cowboy boots are usually seamed on the sides. That's different than the typical European styles. I'm not sure as far as biker boots go. The boot in the picture looks like it would need to be seamed in the back. I hope that helps get you in the right direction!
  17. I really need to stop taking custom orders for things I've never made before Anyway, here's my very first sheath. I think it turned out pretty well:) It's 6-7oz veggie. The fringe is a very very soft tempered 2oz veggie. I dyed everything using chocolate cherry all in one and then I covered it with a few coats of olive oil. Well, Thanks! -Mike
  18. For me, it's the best way to sell stuff in the off season.
  19. it's certainly better, but now when trouble shooting, you have to figure out if the browser is using standards or legacy mode
  20. And here's me! http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Holzer/1086445855
  21. Here is the one my dad (whinewine) made. sorry it took so long for me to post pics.
  22. I just got a pair of Catskill Moccasins and I really feel like they're worth every penny. As a leather worker, I can really appreciate the time and labor that went into making these. If you've never seen them before, they make custom moccasins to your feet/legs. It took about an hour to do the initial fitting (tube sock and duct tape). The boots are made from 4-5oz bullhide. The buttons are minted brass, and the soles are vibram. So here are some pictures of me sporting my new boots! enjoy
  23. well, since we're digging out marching band vids, here's the opener for my freshman year of college: "Mozart to Metallica" GDMFL!
  24. I played trumpet (and misc brass) for 10 years through my sophomore year of college. I even started as a music major at school, but haven't touched my horn in over 6 years. So, yes/no/maybe.
  25. As beautiful as the scabbard is, I'm finding myself struck with cognitive dissonance trying to associate samurai with cowboys!
