  2. About 5 years ago I did a show at a university student-run ren faire. I had donated 2 masks to them to sell in their club booth. We did the same show this past weekend and they happened to still have the masks, painted silver now. I was absolutely mortified at how terrible the masks were! As soon as I found the president of the club I offered to donate one of my new masks on the condition that they destroy the old ones! Granted, these were some of the very first masks I had ever made, but it really reflected poorly on my current work as well as my dad's (since we sell under the same banner). This is the one she chose: I don't think I have any pictures of the old ones, but trust me, the world is a better place now!
  3. Man, now I need to make one of these! Beautiful!

  5. Yeah, I figured from what you had said before that Square wouldn't work for you. I believe Intuit has a "virtual terminal" that you can use on a regular computer that has internet access. If you're accepting cards somewhere that has wifi, that might be an option for you too.

  12. As far as the hand goes, you're in the clear. Nimoy took the gesture from the priestly blessing in Orthodox Judaism. It's almost definitely not a trademark-able image.
  13. Try studying the technique used by Andrea at Merimask. She does a lot of realistic animal masks. I believe she does it all with just a swivel knife and creative painting. Here's a good example of the work she does: Hope this helps! -Mike
  14. One other gotcha with Square is that if you exceed $1000 in sales in a 7-day period, the remainder won't be deposited into your account (by default) for 30 days. This can be changed by talking with their customer support, but I figure for many people it's not a huge issue.
  15. iPhone or Android -based smart phones aren't cheap, at least $100 or so. Throw on top of that a required data plan at about $30/month. So if you don't already have a smart phone and wouldn't have a need for it outside of accepting credit cards it's probably not worth it. Also, Intuit has a similar service but I don't much about it. Go Payment
  16. I actually just got my Square card reader in the mail yesterday! Yes, you can accept credit cards over the phone w/ square, but the fee goes up to 3.5% + $.015, which is still fairly reasonable. I'm excited to start using it at our first show at the end of the month
