Wow, only three posts in and Godwin's law has been invoked.

Tom, a sporran is the "pockets" of a kilt. It's worn in the front like a belt pouch both to keep your keys etc in, but also to keep the kilt from doing a "Marilyn". So really the only difference is where one wears it. (Though there is somewhat of a size limitation when wearing any sort of pouch as a sporran!)

I'm glad you like it The entire surface is backgrounded with Tandy's E294 series. I recently made a purse based on this pouch and backgrounded the strap too.

Weird. In Firefox, Chrome and Safari I'm only seeing HTML. It looks fine in IE. :wtf: Ah it's frontpage, go figure. But also, it's a good start! Any web presence is better than no web presence!

I think it looks a little like queen Amidala's headdress from Episode 1.

No problem. I've made a few of that style, so if you have any questions, let me know and I'll be happy to help

Nope, Gen Y'er I just appreciate the classics.

Looks great! I love the shield design. ¡Vive el cuero! (<=9th grade spanish right there!) I think I may have to get one now

Here the original post I made. I link to a site where you can download it. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...;hl=rapier+frog

Here's my basement shop after I cleaned and rearranged it. If you can't tell, my workbench is two 4'x2'x12" platforms stacked on top of each other. It's about the right height, but it's rough on the knees. You can see part of my beauty school head collection in the upper right of the picture

I'm a web programmer by day, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Shoot me a PM!

I finished it with spray Neatlac on both sides of the piece before it's assembled, then a quick spritz on the lacing once it's put together. I'll have to check out the createx colors I've never heard of them but they sound interesting.

Here's the new pouch I finished up this weekend. I colored it using Tandy's Tea Green highlighter. The dragon was colored using a gold leafing pen. I think it turned out nicely. What do you guys think?

I don't believe you can burnish chrome tanned leather. I think the best you can do is dye the edges.

Hi everyone, I thought I'd show off my brand spanking-new website. My friend Tom did the mockups and I wrote the WordPress template(and will do other misc pages as I have time). We're currently selling through Etsy and eventually I hope to move to a single-site service (once I figure out the shopping cart stuff). Let me know what you think! I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have Where Dragons Tread - Celtic and Renaissance Leather Craft

Thanks for all the compliments! The buyer was very pleased with the mask, so I guess I did a good job after all!
-
That's a good idea I haven't put the finish coat on yet, so I can still make changes. What do you normally paint the backs of your masks with?

Hi all, I just got settled into my new place and got my shop set up. Here's a tooled greenman mask that I was asked to make. As this was my first attempt at a semi-complicated mask, I'd really appreciate any advice or comments you may have. Enjoy! -Mike

I don't know if he'll get around to posting these, so I thought I'd do him the favor. These are bracers my dad (whinewine) made for our show this past weekend. It's two layers of 3-4oz leather with a fake python (but real snake) inlay. It's double stitched around the inlay, then once around the border. He originally wanted to use eyelets to secure the strapping, but we couldn't find any long enough. We decided to go with D-rings rivetted to the underside. I actually like the look of these better than the originals we based these on (which used the eyelets). The girl we sold them to wore them all weekend and they looked absolutley amazing on her. I wish we could have snagged a picture of the bracers in action. Kudos, dad!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions If I do make the baldric, I'll be sure to post pics.

And here's the last frog I'm doing for a while! I used Mahogany All-in-one with super sheen as a resist for the eyes and teeth. For backgrounding, I used an F 900 for the first round and E294-03 on top for a little more texture. I'm not as happy with the color as I was with the chocolate cherry (although they are very similar colors).

I'm planning on bartering for some new faire garb this year with a friend of my fiance. She is interested in a backhanger baldric for her boyfriend in exchange for some new pants and a doublet. I've never made one nor seen a pattern/explanation on how to make one. I'm assuming he has something along the lines of a large claymore/broadsword. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to approach the project? Thanks! -Mike

oh wow, that's a neat border. How do you make something like that? I'm impressed!

Ok, here's the second frog I made (finished last night). This time I actually managed to cut almost all of the parts correctly. I used Satin Sheen as a resist and Cherry Chocolate all-in-one. I then used the spray neatlac to finish it. Modifications from original pattern: The rear support strap was cut down from ~1" to 3/4" to accomadate the 3/4 chap snap which is the largest anyone currently offers. The main support billet was modified so that the rear half inch or so of the billet could fit the 3/4" chap snap. I'd appreciate any comments, suggestions, tips etc - Mike
