  1. I voted for the template because it seems like it has some emotion to it, although I like the idea of a simple line drawing. If you go to the adult section (if you can) and the tattoo flash, hammerhead has some "nude cowgirls" posted that he tooled and I immediately thought of one of his pic's when I saw your poll. The one I'm referring to is the one on the far right in his first post. I think something like that from the shoulders up would be a nice line drawing for a "couture" site. maybe not the main pic/logo but anyway just my 2 cents
  2. Well I know how you feel. I just got my class 4 a little over a month ago. Never having used a sewing machine before I thought It'd be difficult. I am not very good so far but am getting better. I wish there were classes to take for learning how to sew and different techniques instead of trial and error. If you knock your machine out of time (and you will) call Steve and have him talk you thru it. He's a great guy and trust me you need to be walked thru it. There are small details that you dont quite get in the video. Good luck with the machine.
  3. I think most people use the bonded nylon and that is what Cobra Steve recommends. size 138 is the smallest (I think) and 207, 277 and 346 for the larger size thread. I just ordered some thread from the above co I linked and I was able to get some smaller bobbins of thread cheaper on some colors I wont use very much.
  4. Sorry I have no idea but I was interested so I went looking for a pic it took me awhile to find one large enough to see the buckle clearly so I thought I'd post the one I did find so others can see it. http://www.filmz.ru/photos/75174/full/ this pic may be huge
  5. I found this size guide helpful. http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=nylon-thread Size will probably be determined by your machine, so post what kind you have and you will get better info.
  6. Angelus chocolate dye is VERY dark, much darker than Fiebings. Did you try it on leather without the lemon
  7. excellent. thanks for the info. Armed with that maybe I can track it down, No hobby stores around here so that is out but with size and pitch maybe it'll turn up
  8. I have a Tandy swivel knife and the small brass screw that holds the blade needs replacing. Does anyone know where I can get one? I live in the middle of nowhere and the hardware store has wood screws and bolts. Thanks
  9. I use Firefox and I just tried it on SL and it worked fine I could choose different colors in leather and choose quantity with no problem
  10. Chavez, do you mean Tandy's waxed linen thread? that is 6ply (6cord) I believe.
  11. I had a few small pieces of Chestnut Show Harness leather left over so I decided to make a few more bracelets.
  12. http://zackwhite.com/xcart/home.php?cat=499 https://hidehouse.com/products/index.html?Category=CC I assume by "colored" you are talking about green, blue, red etc... not brown or black.
  13. I have 2 from here http://www.greyghostgraphics.com/stamps.html they aren't metal but they work well.
  14. http://www.leatherburnishers.com/BurnisherFAQ.html I think he may be busy with holidays but they are worth the wait. I love mine and I'm sure he'll chime in here
  15. the 5 prong chisel is for making the holes to stitch with. It keeps the stitches spaced evenly. it can easily punch thru 2 layers of leather. That is also what the awl is for and some people like to mark the holes with a stitch wheel and then use the awl to make their holes one at a time. I had a hard time doing that at first so I preferred the 5 prong chisel when I started. A wing divider or a cheap drafting set of compasses is handy for marking groove lines and stitch holes around corners.
  16. I just got a pair of Gingher knife edge scissors and they are awesome. other things you could use for making small projects; 4 or 5 hole chisel. I don't recommend Tandy's because it bends in thick leather. I like this one http://springfieldleather.com/Hand-Tools/product/1905/Chisel%2CStitching%2C1-16%22%2C5-Prong/ also a stitching awl is quite useful http://springfieldleather.com/Hand-Tools/product/1865/Awl%2CHaft%2CStitching%2C%23145/ and get one of the blades. don't waste your money on the cheap ones some waxed linen and some needles for hand stitching http://springfieldleather.com/Lacing-%26-Stitching-Supplies/product/7625/Thread%2CWax%2CLinen%2CBlack%2C50yd/ If you have a Tandy nearby then you can get this there as well and get an edge slicker or burnisher http://springfieldleather.com/Hand-Tools/product/3811/Slicker%2CEdge-%28Nylon%29/ this one works for a starter. you can put a bolt thru it and a nut and attach it to a drill to speed things up. also go get a half yard of canvas at fabric store to help with your edges. and a beveler for the edges as well http://springfieldleather.com/Hand-Tools/product/7914/Edge-Beveler%2CCraftool%2C%232/ these and what you get in a starter kit will get you by for awhile. Don't think you need a bunch of stamps for now I have quite a few and I always end up using the same beveler and backgrounder.
  17. no needles here either but they have a good color selection in 277-346 click "add to cart" in the "colors" and then you can choose the color you want and the size I have never ordered from them http://www.sewingmachineoutlet.com/ricetn.htm
  18. A co-worker asked me if I could make her a bracelet. She gave me the general idea and then a few other girls wanted in on it also. I had a hard time finding smaller conchos so I looked around for other things as well. the conchos I got from OTB and are riveted on with colored rivets. the other 3 I made with buttons and ran a piece of lace thru the button hole and glued it down. I'm going to give those out for a trial wearing to see how they hold up.
  19. try here they talk about thread use for different sizes and needles to use http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=nylon-thread
  20. Well I'm far from qualified on this subject but since I just had a lengthy talk with Steve about timing my class 4 I'll chime in. I was having the same problem with the leather lifting and skipping stitches. The video Steve sends out is helpful with where the bolts are for timing etc... but not very specific. He told me to bottom the needle out and raise it 3/16" exactly. I had to mark the needle (not easy) also put stitch length to "0" then put the hook to so it is just at the needle. now there is some clockwise/counterclockwise play in the hook assembly (sorry don't know the proper term) and I can't remember which way I had it so trial and error for that. I do agree an in depth video for timing would be AWESOME.

  22. A friends son is a biologist and he asked me to make a belt for him as a xmas gift . This is what I came up with. It's DNA unzipping. near the buckle is the caffeine molecule and at the end is just simple water molecules
  23. I wanted to say thanks to all that responded here it made for a good bit of learning. I was at my wits end with my new machine trying to get it working right again. When I got it, it worked fine but I wanted to try out all the plates and feet and somehow I got it out of time, although I still don't know how. I followed the directions on the DVD from Steve to re-time but still couldn't get it to not skip stitches. I emailed Steve the other day (I had already talked with him once) and he called me as soon as he got it. We had a long chat and he went into much better detail about timing the machine. I do agree that he would decrease his phone calls if he had some in-depth videos (although he is very pleasant on the phone) the timing is very tricky if you have no idea about it. For starters I wasn't raising the needle to the exact height just guesstimating. then the shuttle has that 1/4 play in it (clock/counter-clock wise) and I wasn't sure if the hook should be at the needle all the way clockwise or counter0clockwise. (does this even make sense it's confusing and difficult to explain) Anyway I have it fixed and Steve was great and patient with my dumbness. also I noticed mmirob is using #25 needles and 277 thread. I'm using #24 needles and 277 thread. Does this matter?
