  1. Hi Darren, Thank you, that would be wonderful! I will be making handbags and small leather goods such as wallets. I may also sew some leather garments as well. So I will be working with light to medium weight leather only at this time, nothing heavy duty like saddles or harnesses. I would like a machine with a smooth feeding dog as to not mark the leather. As I am not experienced with machinery at all, something low maintenance, not requiring much adjustments from my part is desirable. Also for this reason I would like a dealer in Hong Kong so that they can come and set it up and provide aftercare. If you'd like to know anything more, please let me know. By cw8, do you mean Seiko cw8-b? This is the only one that I could find... Googling "cw8 sewing machine" only gives me results for postcode CW8 in UK, haha. Pfaff 335 looks lovely. I tried searching online but could only find a dealer for their domestic machines in Hong Kong... There was one model which said it could handle heavy fabrics and leather: http://www.pfaff.com/en-US/Machines/select-4-2 It doesn't look like it could handle leather.... Could this be a viable option, though? (sorry for the dumb question)
  2. I thought so too, Uwe, but they do have customs between Hong Kong and mainland China, so I wasn't sure if I should get something from the mainland, especially when I can't be sure about the quality or aftercare. Your kiwi analogy is definitely spot on! haha Both Kwok Hing and Tomsewing seem to be great finds! Thank you so much for your suggestions and I will reach out to these companies and see what I can do. Much appreciated.
  3. Thank you very much for the suggestion, Thor! Shaanxi is good deal of distance away but it's a good start! I hope that I can get it through a dealer here as industrial machines seem to require a lot of adjustments and setup before they are usable... or so I've found on other threads during my research. It's a great place to start, though. Thank you!
  4. I have taught myself leathercraft and have been making some accessories as a hobby for a few years now. I feel like I am very passionate about designing and making handbags and small leather goods, and I would like to expand it to a full-time business one day. In order to increase my production rate, I am contemplating purchasing a leather sewing machine, however I am having no luck finding good models for my use in Hong Kong, where I am based. I don't think I will work with very heavy leather, just light to medium weight leather for garments and bags. I saw some of the recommendations here for brands such as TechSew, Cobra, Cowboy, Consew, etc but shipping it to Hong Kong from the US will cost a lot of S&H and the plugs/voltage are not the same. I saw quite a few people based in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia and wondered if anyone has any recommended dealers for leather sewing machines. Thank you for your help in advance!
  5. That is so awesome! I love thrift store finds... and these seem to be in pretty good shape, too! I'm jealous
  6. That is an interesting idea! Thanks for sharing. I am in awe by how straight and neat your edges are. I still struggle a lot with edges on chrome tanned leather and this is a very nice example.
  7. My gosh, those are some really incredible wallets! I love the painting and the playful inside pockets. Gorgeous.
  8. What an amazing tutorial! The design of how the pockets attach to the lining is very beautiful and the step-by-steps are super helpful. Thank you for such a wonderful post.
  9. Oh my, that is beautiful work! Love the contrast of colors on the first one, and the pattern on the second one! How thin did you have to skive the edges of the outside leather to fold in, if you don't mind my asking? They look very thin and folded very neatly. I am pretty new and would love to achieve such a professional quality on my next project.
  10. You made that when you were 11 years old??? You are incredibly talented and it must've made your father very happy and proud.
  11. Thank you so much for the tutorial! I have plantar fasciitis and I was hoping to make a comfy flip flop myself with the special cushioning... this will help immensely!
  12. I am planning to make a long wallet out of stingray, as well, and your work gave me great inspiration. Kudos on your fine work!
  13. This is a great diagram of how the darts should be cut! Thank you for the tutorial :D
