What makes you describe a piece of work as 'well finished'
jbird replied to UKRay's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Quick thing from me I have never been totaly happy with any thing I have done and I don't if I ever will be, but to my point I put tags on all my stuff I think this a good saling point it shows a care for your work and that your proud of it. Josh -
So there been some talk lately of applique lacing and luke got that name plate that had it so I thought I would post this belt I did recently to show what I do with this technique. it is 8 oz on the front side and 6 oz leather on the back both sides are finish grain or smooth out hand sewn finished with british tan using my air brush. the keeper is engraved with the name of owner. any way thought you would like to see it Josh PS I should mention this was done for a good friend as a gift after surgery she is well now

Lindsay That all dependes on your budget it can get costly, don't buy Tandy stamps not worth it hidcrafters carrys some cheaper ones $7.00 range but if your very serious about you want To go with some thing better like bob beard, watt and there is list do a search on this site for stamp makers. Good luck Josh -

Ok so after looking at again there was somthing that I didn't like on the back piece you need some sort of border around that stamp and that makes a big statement in design and the over all look. Well any way that's it now get another one done for us to see best wishes Josh -

Very very nice I think your well on your way to a happy friendship with leather, If I have one thing to say it's this I would and some more light colors around the edges so it dosent blend together so much you will see what you like and what you don't. Good luck and a fantastic first effort. Josh -

thanks all I thought it turned out nice and the next one even better Josh -
Howdy all I now this was not a hit but I got it done and made a nice return on it, it looks better in person. the sides are covered in suede and so is the strap back side oil and sun tanned finish, reslone finish sprayed with air brush. fully lined in side one pouch as well, the back is a carving of my favorite spot in Wyoming teton national forest. So have a look and let me now what you think thanks Josh

jbird replied to neke's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
It looks pretty nice I like the bird on the wallet. I think I would say this the biggest thing that makes the most difference is to lay out carefully and finish your edges very neatly this all ways makes a huge statement keeping this in mind you will be very happy with all your work. Keep posting and fromthe looks of it your headed In good direction. Josh -
