First off that belt in the picture is thick very thick and as such I would notbe worried about making it weak how ever the problem with sewing across is with time as the belt bends it's not normal and over time becomes a week spot. Josh

Mould making basics for wet forming leather
jbird replied to UKRay's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I don't know how it is but I have done a bunch of wet forming some pretty odd shapes to and I do it like you would think inner mold outer mold but I use 1/2 plywood the better stuff used for cabinets works great for sure wish I had some pics but it works nice and so does the old pin up way. Josh -
Thanks all that clears it up for sure and the only question I have is were do I get the metal binder part thanks. Josh PS Bob amazing stuff thanks for posting
-
Ok so what ever the way is you all do it I just need to now what that way is I mean what part of the binder do use just the middle part and cut the rest off but then how do you cover the middle part. Josh

well Holly I must say that I feel set back and a bit funny giving you advice, I more wanted your thoughts on it, any how I love the hole lay out and design and color and as I say you might never find the best way but you can find it's equals because in leatherwork it's all in the eye of the beholder. Josh

I love it Holly. Got one question were you stiched it on the side there how would it work to go all the way to the edge and skive down nice and glue it down and stitch, does this sound like a good idea, the reason I ask is I have done some like this one and the folks don't like the edge it makes.

leather hardening-shaping and which tool was used here
jbird replied to Vinkimus's topic in How Do I Do That?
Ok this is a pretty easy one first off, Dont and I repeat dont over wet your leather get it just wet but dont turn it in to a spounge. second thicknes of your leather will effect the out come as well but there is a trick for those tight bends, once you have it on a mold and wet start to form it and if you get bunches cut the leather in several spots 1 inch away from your finish edge like a pie this lets your leather form better, if you want I can post pics. Hope this helps josh -
I do not any way want you to think I have or did have any bad thoughts on the saddle just curious. Josh
-
Very nice as all ways. I have a question and you might say a dumb one but a have never got the reason for using the suede of back side of the leather for your finish side or the side you see is it just for looks or what's the thought train behind this Josh
