  1. I have just finished some of these, a couple for a customer with their grandaughters names on them but they left before I could get pictures. Any pointers would help, any Ideas to improve? I value your imput I have gained so much from Reading everyones posts. There is a ring on the bottom so it could be tied to saddle strings if one wanted to. They are fun to make.
  2. Ray, I have a alum. body Boss stitcher. It ran very rough when I first started with it but I started looking around and behind it and found that there was not much lubrication on ANY of the moving parts. (prob. for shipping) I lubed it up and started cranking out the stitches and it works like a dream! I sew chap leather, I sew saddle skirting, I sew saddle skirting to chap leather. This thing does it all. I know that others have not had the same expierience I have had with mine but I really like mine . I work in a saddle shop and have several electric machines available to use and I do use them during the day but at home and for spending my own cash, I still like the Boss. Hope this helps. Rick Jorgenson
  3. Al Stohlmans book is a very good source, especially for your first attempt. Also get John Bianchi's "holster making" video. These were very helpful to me. The finishing touches that Bianchi's video shares are a big help. Rick Jorgenson
  4. Thanks for the tip. EZ sales & mfg. 1432 w. 166 st. Gardena, Ca. 90247 310 327-0343 800 767-0346 They have a website as well I have not called yet to order but they have the bare cores for round western canteens Rick J.
  5. I just had my first encounter with this material. I just started working in a saddle shop in Wickenburg Az. (Ben's Saddlery) We use it to make Tapaderos (covers for stirrups) . To start you soak the whole hide overnight, cut your pattern out, let it soak some more then it is flexible enough to mold to shape. Rick J.
  6. Hi all !! Do any of you know who a supplier is for plastic canteens? 1 1/2 quart and 2 qt round western style I understand they are available by the box 12 or 14 . I have done internet search but have not turned up anything but the G.I. model. :wtf: Thanks Rick J.
