  1. Is that an official Red Ryder carbine action 200 shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock?!
  2. Stumbled across this thread and am curious how it turned out!
  3. I learned my lesson with that one. A 'writer' said he was writing a new book and wanted to feature a holster of mine. He sure was chatty until he received the holster. I tried to follow up several months ago but never got a response. Not even a "Thanks".
  4. To piggy back on Rob's questions-what about the snaps? Size and type? Thank you very much for the tutorial as well as answering my messages!
  5. Thank you so much for the informative video! There is a lot to digest, but I can't hear where you address the amount of pressure. How much pressure do you put on the blade when sharpening? At first it didn't seem like much but at the end it appears you put much more weight on the hone and strop. Thanks again!
  6. I'm curious about the outcome of the OP. I'm looking at my first machine options. There is a Singer 111w155 on CraigsList for $500 that looks tempting. I'm mainly making holsters (right now my hand. Whew!). Would this be a great starting machine?
  7. I appreciate the response! Right now I am only using the resolene. I'm going to have to try your concoction on top of it.
  8. Hey All! I'm looking to get a very high and thick gloss finish similar to the commercial holsters and sheath makers. I have tried several different techniques and products but I haven't found anything that works. The closest thing that I got to was Fiebing's high gloss spray-until it dried and when the leather flexed the finish cracked and turned green until I flaked it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
  9. In Bianchi's holster videos he dips them in a Neatsfoot oil bath. I'm sure everyone's milage varies depending on leather quality and age as well as the dipping variables like temp and amount and time....
  10. your the man! Thanks!
  11. Could someone show me a pic of how the rivet/screw & snap is done? I am just not able to envision it.
  12. How did you attach the snaps/belt loops?
  13. I've been pleased with mine from http://www.steelhandstamps.com/ Under $150 OTD in under 3 weeks
  14. Thanks. That could be one of my problems. I am still using the Tandy anvil and hammer style
  15. I'm getting somewhat critical of Tandy's snaps and would like suggestions as to where to get heavy duty line 20 snaps. I"m using them on holster straps for what it is worth. Don't need enough to buy in bulk
  16. Thanks! I never knew that
  17. that's amazing work! One question I have is why do holster makers put the screw/ rivet next to the trigger like that? What purpose does it have?
  18. amazing carving. If you could exaggerate the wave of the stitching to make it look like it is supposed to not be straight I think it would look much better. Another option is to cover the side with a strip of another material and restitch.
  19. Never mind, I think I got it. Still going to need a lot of trial and error, but I think I've got the rough process under my belt. http://imageshack.us' rel="external nofollow">
  20. thanks for the link. Kinda needed to see it in action. For the life of me I can't figure out how he slipped the buckle in!
  21. My sweet heart's father is a big guy....really big. She asked me for Christmas to take 2 of his old watches he enjoyed wearing and make wrist bands 2 inches longer than the largest wrist band that's on it (the biggest replacement which he could find produced) so he could wear it. After looking them over, I'm pretty comfortable with the strap part. Simple one piece, fold in half and stitch. I'll need to find a pretty tiny hole punch though! When it comes to the buckle strap, I'm having problems seeing how it is cut and assembled. Any help or pics would really be appreciated. Thanks!
  22. Nice. Thought you meant Ford Explorer
  23. [/url] Its not tiny because I'm cheap, but to actually serve a purpose. I'm in an EMT class and the instructor mimics putting his guns away (puts his fingers in imaginary holsters) when he completes a skill as a sign of confidence. Skills testing is this weekend and I figured I'd show up wearing one Overall I don't think it turned out too bad being my first western holster. I'm a little pressed for time, but from drawing the pattern to applying the finish took only 3 hours.
  24. it does seem fairly cheap. Its compressed, and not very soft. By plastic, it almost seems like the top layer (epidermis?) is rigid, plastic like, and doesn't cut but rather tares. When I try to bevel the edges, on occasion it nearly tares like paper or cardboard. I think I'll be able to get away with using it on the back of projects, but certainly nothing else
  25. Picked a decent sized piece of leather up from Tandy last week, about 4-6 oz. Now that I've got it and worked it, it seems way too plastic-ie and cheap to use on products. I gave a very healthy soaking of Neatsfoot oil to one project with no results. Am I out a pretty penny or is there a way to get a little cushion in a hide? I'd hate to just chalk it up to a learning experience (be very very picky on leather) and be out $90.
