  1. Ok, will do! Also, if you're looking at Adelaide leather and saddlery, they also do belt lengths. Veg-tanned long ones are here http://www.adelaideleather.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=116&products_id=6988 Haven't tried these myself. I have tried their bridle lengths. The ones I got were around 1700 long. But they are partially chrome tanned in their processing so resist tooling or burnishing at all. Still, nice feeling leather if you're not needing to do that. See attached for how mine turned out.
  2. Ok sure I'll have a look for you. I have been buying my buckles from Adelaide saddlery and leather. Pretty bloody good! Good range, fairly inexpensive, the ones I have got are good quality, and they turned around my order the same morning I placed it. http://www.adelaideleather.com.au/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=49_71
  3. I reckon a meetup would be a great idea mate! There are a lot of people around here into this stuff, and we can probably learn a lot from each other. I'm planning on making the pilgrimage to East Coast Leather tomorrow arvo, time permitting, after a meeting with the accountant. It is kind of unfortunate they aren't open on weekends, had too wait for a Brisbane public holiday to head down there... actually, better check they are open... haha I'll be looking for belt leather actually, and some sheepskin or goatskin for wallets. So if I get there, I'll let you know how it goes!
  4. That looks awesome! Great job. I like it a lot! There is a lot to be proud of there.
  5. Really nice job! How fun is wet moulding I've done two now, learned a lot each time but really enjoyable. Yours looks really good, and the Sam brown stud is a good choice too.
  6. G'day all, I've added a post or two since my starting on here a few days ago. Thought I'd say g'day the proper way. I'm based in Ipswich, Australia. And I've been getting involved from a 'paying hobby' perspective for about a year now. My Facebook page is here (below), and I'd invite you all to help me out and give my page a like! https://m.facebook.com/wedgetailleather My interest in leather craft started when I saw a video in a YouTube feed about leather tooling. So I jumped on Tandy's site and grabbed a beginner kit. Tooling is fun, but what I really got interested in after my first few projects and a lot more research was belt making, wallet making, and making wet moulded pouches and bags. As it works out, I have had a few commissions since beginning back then for each of those things! There is a lot to learn, and I have learned a lot of what know now from the people who generously share their knowledge in places like this, and YouTube. Hopefully some day I'll be able to help the next guy out too, but until then, thanks for all your help! Here are some pictures of my work.
  7. G'day Aussiemade, I'm just down the motorway at Ipswich. I tend to be making a lot of moulded pouches, but also belts, and smaller items like phone wallets. Still a noob, but I take my time with things. Maybe we can help each other out, especially if needing specific tools for a one off job, or bundle up purchases for hardware/etc to save on the postage! (Just bought some thread from the states, and shipping alone was $30... ) Getting good belt leather here is the hard part. Looking at heading to east coast leather myself, probably on brisbane show day.
  8. That looks very nice! I like the colour actually. Black tooling is super hard to photo, but it looks awesome.
  9. G'day all, I wanted to share my first attempt at a knife sheath with you all. It was also my first commission job, so that was pretty cool! The knife was one that the clients brother had owned, so it had some sentimental value. I hope you like it! Please provide any feedback you can too, both the good and the bad!
  10. G'day all, My first post about stuff I have made on the forum. This one was a Saturday morning project with my wife, she wanted to try her hand at some leatherwork too. My wife runs a personal training business from home, so this seemed fitting! We used Austin double shoulder from tandy to make the straps, brass rapid rivets, and hardware from an old hand bag that was too far gone for the goodwill (Vinnie's where I live). She liked the unfinished edges, so we left them that way. Though the leather does bevel and burnish nicely if you want to do that! I hope you like it!
  11. I've not tried them... The business trade accounts only thing put me off, I'd call myself more over a "paying hobby" than a business for now. Haha
  12. G'day all, Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks to everyone on here for providing so much awesome info. I hope to do the same over time, to help the next guy out. I'm in QLD Australia, and I am looking for some bridle leather. I like to support local where possible, and where I can get good quality product for a reasonable price. Which brings me to greenhalgh tannery in Victoria. Has anyone here tried their bridle or waxed harness before? If you have used it, how would you rate it? The other part of me likes to go with what I know. And I know W&C make great English Bridle, and I know of a stockist not far away... though it is a great deal more expensive too!
