Lobo, Inspirational, have moved to the basement, wife is suggesting I do some carpentry work to get a proper shop, kind of at a break even point now... years yet to go to get to the point you are at, but hoping to make it some day.... and the path you described is spot on so far... -

Tooled Pancake
Huntbuck replied to particle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
My thoughts exactly. Particle, nice work... keep inspiring us and raising the bar. Also ADDITIONAL KUDOS, I know how hard it is to find those precious hours to put into this stuff, especially when you are running the 8-5 daily grind. For me it is a good place to wind down and think about something besides the daily chaos we all deal with. Again, NICE work. Edited because I can't spell! -
Are you using a chilse point needle? Just cureious as there seems to be a lot of material moving on the backside. Front stitches look beautiful...

I picked up a TENTMAKER SPECIAL a couple of years a go on ebay, another knock off of the sailrite line... also bought the Monster wheel with it, the total deal was less than the cost of the monster wheel new... After a bit of work sorting out the timing issues getting it running AND cussing it out often, I finally put the monster wheel on it where upon I too had to "square off to kick myself for not doing it sooner!!" Night and day difference. Still use that little machine to small projects made out of upholstry grade leather, and I agree, they should all come with the wheel on them. Sailrite came up with a good addon with that product definately made my work sessions on that little machine more pleasant. .

First Pancake Style
Huntbuck replied to Huntbuck's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Twin Oaks, I appreciate the critical eye and great advice... I definately agree on the full grip relief I will update the pattern for this and add the radiused corners. ... and I will try the bag on the molding. This leather was really fatty... lots of issues getting it molded, some areas stretched too much, others hardly at all. Not sure where the leather came from, I just know I have been moving it shelf to shelf for awhile and finally decided to use it for a "first" of holster. Another area of frustration on this one was the slots.. I have to work on those as well, I used a drill for the corners and the drill leaves quite a mess to clean up. . -
Gent ask for a pancake style holster, first one of this style.. typically I do the snap over designs. Let me know what I should have done different... finished not finished in this photo, but on the belt to size up angle and sweat shield, and one on the forming jig

That looks great. What thread size are you settled on. I have tried 138 up through the 346... doing first saleable item tonight on it... a holster for glock, using 346 with 8 oz light brown... have done a couple camera cases, notebooks and other small items with the boss and so far, not looking to go back to hand stitching any time soon.

Well, at least all the comments made for an entertaining READ.... -
I picked one up off craigs list locally a couple of weeks ago, apparently sombody loaned money, took the machine for payment and wanted what they had into the loan... $500... The machine appears new but the tensioners were out of whack, it had size 69 thread in a 200 needle with maybe a 207 in the bobbin... and basically needed to be set up properly. Thanks to Particle who through some PM's helped me get it going. Last week I sewed a leather day planner with it, made out of some old split I had laying around. Did not want to try on a sellable piece for the first run. It took a bit of playing but after a bit of adjusting I finished with a pretty decent stitch. I restitiched an old pattern holster I had laying around just to do a time comparison... that original took 2+ hours to hand stitch.... finished it in about 12 minutes on the boss and my hands were not sore. again,... I THINK YOU WILL LIKE IT... Let us know when you get it and how it works out for you RW

Big Busse Sheath
Huntbuck replied to Huntbuck's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I really needed the cutout on this one.. the blade was so long if I did a traditional enclosed sheath you could not draw the knife if mounted on your belt... it would put the handle in your arm pit by time it cleared the sheath.. at least this way it is only a four inch draw and then straight forward... and as you said... it looks cool when you see that polished stainless steel... Thanks for the comments... need to figure out the tooling side of things pretty quick... request are coming in and I have been turning them away... not good for business... RW... -
Was ask if I could make a sheath for a BIG knife... the knife is a beautiful Busse design and waranted some heavy leather... here is what I come up with... still learning but making progress..

Thanks for the comments... I think it came out OK... shared it with a local gun show guy and am going to be making some leather for his knives... good stuff.. thanks again for all the comments and tips throughout the forum.. RJ
