manual presser foot lift on JUKI LU 562/3
mixmkr replied to mixmkr's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks Gregg. Does the knee lifter need to be installed to HOLD the presser foot at the max height? (10mm). Or does the hand lifter need to be held to keep it lifted at that hegith? ...and/or is the hand lifter supposed to be able to lift it to that height? -
1. The manual lift lever on the JUKI LU562 should raise the presser foot (distance between needle plate and underside of presser foot) to what height? 5/16"? 2. The same lift lever allow you to raise it to another level (I think typically done by the knee lift?). Should that lever (if the knee lift is not hooked up) stay in that highest position? ..which is now about 3/8" ?? After professional servicing, my lever no longer stays at that highest point, but needs to be held. It will stay at the first "click" , but not all the way up. I'm also not sure if the maximum lift height is being achieved. Other than that, the machine is sewing like a champ (right now!)

Just got my inline binder from Sailrite today, got it hooked and couldn't get it to mess up. Pics to follow. But I think this one is a winner! :-D

so....wondering what machine was originally on this table that my 107W1 uses, since the cutout is much too small for a JUKI 562 sized machine. It's not that I really tilt the Singer back that much (Infact I only use the machine about 10% of my time because it's zig zag only), but thought while somebody was digging for a source for the hinges on the other thread, I could get a complete set as well.... But as you say, those style won't work on the Singer. I'll just use my block and tackle system hooked up to the ceiling !!!! Seriously, the machine is really not that heavy and still tilts OK without hinges...but maybe not as secure. It's kinda like a "baby" industrial ;-)

Female Hinges for a Singer 112w139 Sewing Machine

And I'll take a set -
Yeah it's what my Juki 562 uses but the table cutout is smaller than my juki to accommodate my 107W1. Gotta smile as it has a Keystone silver sticker on it! thought there might be cross matching pieces

Inspired by the other thread...I forgot needing the sewing machine side (male) hinge for my Singer 107W1. Here's the table side. The Singer head has two threaded holes for the male part of the hinge.

Thanks Const for your pics and reply.... As noted above, I do have the taller feed dog and needle plate and it worked NOT using them for a bit. If I HAVE to revert back to them I will, but prefer having the extra space under the presser foot, as that is needed much more than the binding setup. But..if "push comes to shove"...we'll do what we have to do. I've looked at those binders too, but already have the right angle as shown in my pic above. The INLINE binder from Sailrite should arrive early this week, so will give that a whirl and hopefully will be the ticket. thx again.

Floyd...go home and hand sew sumpin, eh??!! :-D

That's encouraging! ! Will see how the new in line feed will do when it comes in this week :-)

yes, using purchased 1" binding tape from Sailrite. The only change has been the needle plate and feed dog, and I guess I could switch it out again, but I'm really looking to keep the plate that I have that is flush as I don't do binding enough as compared to needing the space for the presser foot. I haven't switched back to my "taller" plate and feed dog, because it was doing OK for about 50 feet of previously done binding. Then of course, a new job and it starts goofing up. Looking at the Sailrite binder in their videos, it appears there is less "slop" for the binding to move around in the feeder compared to what I have now. The beginning of my current 1" feeder would take a tape about 1.25 inches....but NOT as it comes out of the binder. I'm also NOT really fond of the way these right angle binders kinda "invert" the binding so to speak. The straight feed is just that....no "reverse fold" so to speak....if that makes sense. It's just fed in and then folded as it comes out.

My binder has been working flawlessly up to just recently. I have a swing away, right angle binder hooked up to my JUKI. Or...it can be fastened to an extra bobbin plate that I have also. However, it is not folding the binding in half perfectly anymore. I've switched everything from different binding, proximity, you name it. What happens is the binding is pushed to the right up against the binding fence and causes me to miss stitches on the binding on the underside, not to mention lousy looking sewing lines. The top is folder over too much also as a result. That's really the problem. I originally had a taller needle plate and feed dog, that stood "proud" of the base, but to gain presser foot space, replaced that with a flush setup. But with my "flush setup" it doesn't seem reliable. I can go about two feet, then it veers off. I ordered a INLINE binder from Sailrite, so maybe that will help feed it better than my right angle binder. I"d prefer not to keep switching needle plate and feed dogs out, just to do the binding. So...Inline versus right angle??? Will see.

I'm using the Awntex only because the customer said get the best you can buy..and supposedly this is just a tad better than Phifertex. 90% UV blockage. Wants to keep the sun of his new SeaRay. Trivantage was the source. I didn't heat cut it either. Here's the LU 562 rippin down the side lanes....

Uwe...you crack me up. You may get a call. FLoyd... I just sewed a bunch of dock shades for a job, that all I really did was a double seam for hemming around the perimeter. 12' x 8 shades' approx. using 138 Tenara. Each panel would easily take a couple of bobbins. I probably went thru 10 bobbins total for 3 panels. I did run a seam thru the middle to join two smaller panels to make my 12 x 8 as I was using Awntex in 60" rolls (same as Phifertex). I haven't totaled up how much on a bobbin yet, but I would run down 2-3 sides of a panel and would need to change. ROUGH guess of about 30-35 feet...but I could be off.. Mind you, I'm charging for the PTFE thread and making money, so usage isn't an issue. I definitely notice a difference with the 92 Tenara of getting quite a bit more. I saw on Ebay last fall where a guy bought a 241 (1541 grandpa, that was the LU 563 successor I think) that the seller didn't know if it worked or not (no motor). He walked away with it for $56 !!! I'll keep looking too! For $1250 for the Ebay 1508, that buys a new 1541 or similar. If the NEW 1508 did NOT sell in the $2k+ range, I probably wouldn't take notice.

What I wanted to hear. I think I'm getting cold feet too, for lusting after too similar a machine, albeit a tad newer. A CB 4500 would be awesome. Not sure I'd have much use for it, but a heck of a machine. I'll wait for that larger bobbin machine that lands in my hands at an great price. No hurry I guess, so I can take my time. I'm just getting addicted to these things. Figuring a backup really isn't needed with these pups either. They're solid enough to run all day long anyways.

thx Uwe. I have contacted them and realize being outbid is a very real possibility too. I think I'm just getting MAS (machine acquisition syndrome). They've told me they're a manf company and this is a spare machine that has had light use over the years and they have an svc tech on staff... which may be just someone who likes to fiddle too! Yeah... gotta remember it's Ebay. That said, I've bought and sold a lot over the years with Ebay at this dollar value and basically done OK. They want $250 to ship...so that sounds like a pallet and a truck to me. But ya never know. Probably should just stick with a dealer. That said, I should contact some of these forum vendors and tell them what my goals are. thx all for the responses

yeah...that pulley is a beast!! I'd think you could go off the grid, if you hook some sort of power supply off of it :-)

unless somebody beats me to it... I'm about ready to jump....but is there any downside to just the 1508... no "N", NH...etc? At least that's what's on the plate...just "1508". or am I just getting a larger bobbin LU562? Seems the changes since the LU562/563 might be of benefit... like the rectangular presser foot rotation. I like the top feed bobbin too.
-
As much as I've "googled", etc. I can't find anything on just the 1508, except it replaced the LU 563. Only the 1508 (with a letter after it) is showing up in searches. The NH version being the most expensive, as it seems to have a higher presser foot lift.....did I say that above?? :-D

Dang....I fold 12 layers of Sunbrella, and I've got a 2x4 plank! 8 oz Sunbrella too! That seemed thin for 12 layers. You like the Top Gun over the Sunbrella? In my world, the only word I ever hear is Sunbrella...and the rare Stamoid if the guy is rich and is just name dropping.
-
btw...you hands are so clean!! lol! and I always pull out the other way...to the left! ;-)
-
Good idea. I've sometimes kept the needle still in the middle foot, but you're still bending the needle a small amount. However, I had my local sewing machine tech go over the machine, with my tenara 138 for him to use and some sunbrella... and happily it is acting like regular poly thread now. Like the upper tension disks are happy and all. It just pulls away. I think the upper tension disks weren't opening enough with the presser foot up. But you are getting better leverage, rather than yanking off the needle, pulling at the take up arm like that as well. I think since the PTFE thread is typically so slippery, you end up cranking down on the upper tension... thus...it isn't always the easiest to pull thru a "partially" opened tension disk.... not to mention that needle bends like a pole vault pole!! Is that your 1508?

I'd like to know too!

I think the NH has a higher ultimate presser foot lift and can sew thicker materials (and heavier)...and a slightly longer 10mm stitch...versus just the 1508, which is what I'm referencing in my original first post. I've got my hand on the trigger, but.......
